    1966 saw the release of the all-new Dodge Charger, a slick fastback styled performance car with a high-tech interior and a look all it's own. This car is a rather rare 426 Hemi-powered version from the Brothers Collection, and it is our Muscle Car Of The Week!

    I was in 8th grade when my brother drove into the driveway with a brand new bright red '66 Charger. I was in awe then and I'm still in awe of that car, still the most beautiful car I've ever seen! He wanted the Hemi but the dealer talked him out of it, convincing him it would be too hard to live with as a daily driver, so he got the 383 four barrel 4 spd. To this day nothing turns my head like a '66 Dodge Charger.

    I was completely overwhelmed by this car in 66. Got a chance to ride in the back seat of one. The driver’s right foot was heavy on the pedal and we went from party to party, tires screaming every time we took off from a stop. One of the most exhilarating rides I had as a 14 year old that I still remember and when I do, I find myself grinning every time.

    My favorite car that I owned was a 67 Charger.
    Red, with a black interior. ...custom oredered car from Dodge..
    Met the salesman who ordered the car...
    440 Magnum.
    727 auto.
    Kelsey Hayes 4 piston calipers up front.
    Police Interceptor suspension and handling package....
    Bought it for one dollar....off of the 2nd owner, on two conditions. ..
    Number one....his ex-wife never got it.
    Number two...I never cut it up or modify it.
    Had it for ten years....
    Sold it to the original owner...
    He did a complete restoration on it, and owns it to this day...
    This is the only car I owned that I regret selling, every day...since 1988.
    Damn, I miss that feeling....sitting behind that wheel....waiting for a light....

    I FRIGGEN LOVE THESE cars ! We were teenagers and my friend had a red one with a 440 (a replacement for the blown 383) what a great car . Man if that car could talk, we used to sneak people into the drive-in in the trunk because that panel dropped down and you could crawl into the back. Four bucket seats way too cool and well ahead of it's time for sure .

      Most all the cars of the sixties had huge trunks. I remember putting my 25 inch color console TV in the trunk of my "68 Catalina to take to the repair shop. I didn't even have to tie the trunk lid down. Sat the TV in there in the upright position and closed the lid........amazing!

    • @hatfez
      @hatfez 5 лет назад +7

      The divider between the trunk & the rear interior was hinged & dropped down, giving even more room.

    • @soxfunny98
      @soxfunny98 5 лет назад +3

      It had a big trunk and many ways to add room with the fold down seats, the interior in the rear was kind of rounded a bit and with one or both seats down there was so much space. It was an amazing first for a car.
      Obviously the beautiful and powerful 68-70 Chargers will always be the talked about ones and there is a good reason but... These cars should not be forgotten about.

    Back in 1974 my older brother came home with a 1967 Dodge Charger. It was a beautiful medium blue with a blue interior and the 383 2-barrel engine with the Torqueflite trans. The body and interior were perfect. I think he got it for $750. It was love at first sight for me. That dash with the 4 pods and a 150 mph speedo was so cool looking. But the first night I went for a ride and I saw that dash lit up with that beautiful blue lighting was so fine. It looks had been made even better with chrome slotted mags that really worked with that body style. To this day I think that is one of the coolest looking cars to come out of that era. That interior with the 4 bucket seats and that console that went from under the dash and back to between the rear bucket seats was never used by any other car to my knowledge. It's now almost 50 years later and I still get excited when I think about that car. You hardly ever see them anymore, even at car shows. If I ever had a windfall, I think I would make finding a nicely restored 1966 or 67 Charger a must.

    1966 Charger was still essentially a 1966 Coronet sans the side 1/4 panel scallops! The rest of the main body side panels and hood are all the same! And the Electroluminescent dash gauges came out first in the 1960 Chrysler and Imperial and through to the 1962 Chrysler and 1963 Imperial! 1966-'67 Charger was different enough to make it stand out against the Coronet though but Dodge never wanted to use hood scoops on the Charger because it would have interrupted the clean flowing lines but they should have used the 1965 Super Stock low profile hood scoop, especially on the Hemi cars, maybe as an option at least! Otherwise, they were great looking cars!

    6:30 - The sound of a 426 Hemi roasting bias-ply tires was heard often as I grew up in the 1960s. All of the high-power V8 engines had different voices from firing orders and other factors, but these Street Hemi cars sounded just right.

    In the late sixties I was a pre teen who was fascinated with spotting the various muscles cars from the back seat of the family car as we travel through out Texas. I rarely spotted a 1966 Charger. How many were manufactured.

    My Mother had a white with the same red interior, unfortunatly it had the 318. I thought my mom was going to kill my dad when we came home one day and the charger was gone and my dad told us he had sold it. I saw the car three years later and it looked like a rust bucket from hell. Wisconsin is hard on cars. I have been looking for one in good shape but when i find one the people won't part with it. My high school welding teacher has a 67 green on green with a 383 auto, i have been trying to talk him out of it for years. I figure if I pester him enough maybe some day he will give in.

    I've always loved these puppies so thanks for sharing this beautiful specimen. I like the backwards R/T on the Coronet. You should have folded the trunk down to show the length AND shown a night shot of the gauges. Something that's bugged me for a while but I've never seen mentioned... shouldn't it be Lbs/ft of torque? Thanks again. I (and many others) look forward to these videos every week and really appreciate 'em.

      Buy another one. I just bought a really nice 66 383 727 car a week ago. I looked for months for one I could afford. I haven't owned a car in 12 years because of medical problems so I can't wait to shred some tires. Only paid 17k for her and she only has 86k miles. Now is a good time to buy. Prices are low but they always go up on classic cars. Imagine, this car was probably less than 3k brand new.

    I had hoped to own a Charger (any from 1966 to 1970) someday. Well, I am an old man now, and am busted financially (becoming disabled at 46 years old doesn't lend itself to making money). I cannot see God allowing me to have one, at this point. But hey, that's okay. Plenty of videos online of them, along with the Woodward Dream Cruise every year to see some. Thanks for posting this video for us to see.
