This video explores Dragon Ball training: would the training used by Goku and Vegeta really work? How should you train for martial arts? What exactly is "ki"?
I've made videos in the past exploring flow states and how they relate to ultra instinct, as well as the effectiveness of weighted clothing. This video is going to focus more on the explosive calisthenics we see in the show, as well as the more "out there" training methods used by Master Roshi, Whis, and others.
The surprise is that Dragon Ball training as depicted in the shows would actually be fairly effective! But we can take it even further beyond with some functional training methods using bands, cables, and more.
    Enjoy!

I had a dream as a kid that I went to my cousin's basement and a creepy doll started slowly coming towards me, I remembered in the dream somehow, the idea that in dreams you can do whatever you want, even fly.. so I decide to kamehameha this cursed doll. I charged up and motioned a kamehameha with all I had, and nothing happened. I just ran upstairs after that.

Some of the most relaxed fighters I've seen are the Muay Thai fighters. When they kick they kick straight through without holding back or snapping back. I don't know much about Martial Arts but from I've seen that they throw some devastating blows for their size. Thai men tend to be on the smaller leaner side but wow do they have crazy strength.

Maxick who gets a mention near the end of the video said he was never heavier than I think 155 lbs. He was one of the first people to successfully clean and jerk with double body weight or more. It was around four hundred lbs. And he claimed much of his strength came from muscle control
That is to say ability to relax muscles antagonistic to the movements he wanted to perform while keeping the necessary muscles fully engaged. He was also known for lifting men forty pounds heavier than himself overhead with one hand ten times while not spilling beer from the mug he would hold in his other hand.

They do specialized training for martial arts and have different bodys, long muscles that relax when in rest position, not circular, no hyperthropy, or poping veins. The Bioneer has a great body and physical condition and strength but this is not for martial arts or sports where you throw punches or kicks. Big muscles and muscular resistance training are not good overall for the above said sports. What you need is potency, power, not strenght and you need alactic anaerobic resistance not anaerobic lactic resistance. The harder and faster you hit or kick, the more muscles you lose, and the other way around.

I guess I also found a bit of identity in the way that the characters like Goku or Vegeta yearned to train, to improve or to be TBE etc. I think it gave a great emphasis on calisthenics and plyometrics, there was weight training but not as much as bodyweight training. Very cool video. I want to pitch in: Muscle does not generate power. Power comes generally from the push off the ground directed through the hips along with the smooth coordination of the joints. If someone has a lot of muscle mass there could be extra power just from throwing around the weight of their body, but any contraction of the muscles takes away from the transference of energy into the target. Size does have an effect, but speaking of the maximize power output for any given body type, the smoother they can move the better for them to reach their max potential output. Joint coordination ultimately has greater power potential, but it is harder to understand on the surface than muscular training. Takes more time to learn

Love it man, great job. DBZ, as many others understand, has been one of the greatest influences I've got on improving my training and the results thereof over all my years doing it. It has inspired me so much, and while wearing a DBZ shirt or vest in the gym I have even witnessed moments where I noticed others reading the message on it and visibly getting amped by it like nodding their head and pushing out some more reps! Love this content man.

from my own experience i can tell that for a harder punch it is extremely important to focus on form and speed, so shadow boxing or f.e. or standing in horse stance and punching very fast for a few minutes engaging the legs, core, shoulders with very clean and controlled movement is very effective. love your videos, mr bioneer, keep up the good work!

Try relaxing at first with a focus on speed not power, exercises such as punching small ball on a string, or punching out a candle flame. 🕯️🙏🏽

I've found that smashing a truck tire with sledgehammers for 2-3 minute rounds, using both a 10-16 lb 2-arm sledgehammer AND two 4 lb single handed sledgehammers, helped develop my punch stamina, arm/shoulder endurance and power transfer from the legs through the core and out to my arms.

Hey Bioneer, I have a question for you or really anybody who can help. I’ve been trying to be more healthy and build my ideal physique, but have been having trouble with my diet part of things. I’m a competitive swimmer as well as a highschool student. I’ve been counting macros mostly but the trouble I’m having is finding out how much of each macro I need. Protein I believe I need to eat at least 200g (I weigh 205lbs right now and am trying to get down to 200) but I’m a bit more confused about carbs and fats. Any help would be appreciated I apologize for this being so long and possibly not making sense

Taijiquan practitioner here. Don't beat yourself up over your form being terrible -- it's not an easy art to learn. Take your time. But if you'd like some tips from a stranger on the Internet, don't think so much about where your arms need to be. Focus on foot placement, shifting your weight and turning from the obliques. Really, your arms should be doing about 10% of your movement, the other 90% is from your body. Your arms should be so relaxed you can feel the air between your fingers like it's water. Forms are usually practiced slowly, but when you go back to the punching bag, do try to keep in mind those Taijiquan body mechanics and I'm sure you'll find your punches to be cleaner, faster and stronger. Taiji was invented as a martial art. It can still be one if you train it as such.

Kettlebells are probably the overall best equipment to use... Especially if you're like most people, and don't have the time or money to use a multiple types of training methods. I will say the only downside to using kettlebells is it won't make you jacked.... But then again, bodybuilding is not fitness anyways....

I was just thinking of this today, before proliferation of internet and youtube you either learned at school or some club and then you continued to learn how to train trough DB and DBZ, I didn't know you can't get 6 pack by doing situps, that you have to watch diet that much, never heard of time under tension, never knew there were different muscle types, what progressive overload is ... I just tried to do 10 000 situps and pushups in one go like Goku and Vegeta and punch the snot out of the air 🤣😂🤣

Its training that nervous system. But mostly, it's about sport specific exercise. You train football to be better at football. To train Karate to be better at karate. Its repetition in the technique. Everything else follows. What you then see are just the byproducts of that repetitious exercise that are specific to the sport. Bench pressing, squatting etc are just supplementations. They supplement the biomechanics, they supplement the muscular tone, endurance and strength. They however do not make you better at the sport you do. The greatest of all fighters have followed one thing, to be better at fighting they spar. Countless hours of sparring. Bruce Lee said it, the Gracies say it, Cud D Amato said it, Teddy Atlas say it. They all say it. The key lies in sport specific exercise. Ronaldo uses weights on his ankles to be faster, yes. But he plays with the ball more. Mike Tyson in his prime never touched weighs. Did tonnes of cali, but Cus wanted him to spar. He sparred a lot. Fought every 2 weeks, regularly got ring time in more than anything. That in turn produces a nervous system that generates a specific muscle tone capable of excelling in that specific sport. We look for short cuts in the supplementary training regimes. When really that's the misconception. The truth lies in the sport specific training. This explaines why jiu jitsu practitioners have destroyed body builders who decide to challenge them because they are just 'bigger'. They are under the deception that because they are strong at lifting weights, they can take on a master of a sport. Pathetic ideology to be under. Very ignorant to say the least. Must train under the discipline the sport demands. Technique. The rest follows.

Dragon ball was my biggest inspiration, started with weights in my garage, got into martial arts lessons, got into powerlifting, discovered muscles have a strength curve so then i got into gymnastics as well, dabbled in a few other things but those were the big 3 that i always did till i broke my neck... now i just exercise enough to not become a vegetable and fight off this dad bod, oh also i was nothing special at martial arts or gymnastics but for a junior i did pretty well at powerlifting, 315kg deadlift, 265kg squat and 180kg bench, looking at my family tree youd never guess there was a strength blessing in there somewhere
