🇦🇺😎👍My mate interrupted a burglar at 11 pm at his home . The long and the short of it is the had a fist fight with the burglar , the police took him away only to return and take my mates gun licence and a safe full of firearms. The charge , excessive force . The guy had scratches and a few bruises. 12 months on still no guns returned still no court case. For goodness sake he was a burglar !

My HSV VF was attempted to be stolen by 3 men. The car was in my locked garage at the back of the house and there are 2 locked cars blocking the driveway. The offending men tried to open the garage but could not get in. They then tried to break into the house. The camera's kicked off the security system then myself and my 2 adult sons confronted the men and gave them a beating. We are all blackbelt kickboxers and they did not stand a chance. One of them tried to pull his gun on me but I broke both his risks, one of the other men pulled a knife on my son and he beat the shit out of him. This was two weeks ago and they have never been back.

Let me paint ya a picture. It is not about magistrates and MPs being soft.....
Approximately 30,000 to 35,000 people are in jail in Australia.... every day of the year..... which at a cost of $300 each a day... works out to be.... $9 million to $10.5 million a day.... or $3,276,000,000 to $3,822,000,000 ...3.276 billion to 3.82 billion a year.
$300 per day to keep a person in jail is a low-figure..If I recall correctly, the IPA estimated $405 per day for an adult and up to $800 a day for a juvenile.
Let's put this into perspective with a car thief stealing a $90,000 vehicle.... that is likely covered by insurance.
If the courts were to sentence this car thief to a mandatory 7 years with no parole. Using $300 a day x 364 days a year x 7 years..... $764, 400. That is what it will cost to keep 1 car thief in jail for 7 years.... over a $90,000 vehicle covered by insurance.
It would be cheaper to go out and buy the car thief a brand new $160,000 Range Rover and pay its running costs for the next 7 years... on the condition he agrees not to steal any more cars. Even if it cost $20, 000 a year for insurance, petrol and servicing....$300,000...... the Public would be still $464, 400 better off than putting said thief in jail for 7 years.
So where do we draw the line here between a punishment to fit the crime and the best value for the tax payer dollar?
There are approximately 20 million individual tax payers without businesses... Assuming those 20 million are footing the current $3.8 billion prison bill with no offsets.... each tax payer might be paying $191 a year just to keep the current numbers in jail.... yet people want longer sentences and to jail more people?
What deterrent is going to be cost effective and work.... perhaps we could cut their cocks off and leave them with a stump..... that would certainly make the males think twice about stealing a car.
You do realize bail doesnt mean they get off scot free, they dont magically drop the charges when they get bail lol
Australia is way too soft on youth crime. I actually now lock my car when driving and will use a club lock. A couple of times recently I've gone to the shops to come back with people hanging around it and looking in the windows etc only to flee when they see my arrive.

Where I live I leave my car running with keys in it while I go to the shops. Not once has anything ever been stolen. Joys of living in a town known for disposing of people down mine shafts.
Maybe use the club lock next time to persuade them not to steal cars..just saying 😀🪓

We just bought our second vf, a clubsport and we have a ss with walkinshaw performance package. We have worked so hard to finally buy our dream cars and now can't enjoy them. I'm terrified to take it out. I've driven it 5 times in the 2 months I've owned it. My f@%Ken dream car! I work my ass off, to pay my way. And this is heart breaking

see it from the police's perspective. What's the point doing all the hard work of arresting a car thief and then taking the scumbag to court for the magistrate to give them a slap on the wrist. Next thing the police are arresting them for the same crime for them again to get a slap on the wrist. On top of that the police are under staff.
In regards to car modifications. If the modifications are not ADR compliant or risk the safety of the general public, then they too are a real criminal. Nobody should get a say on what crime they are allowed or not allowed to do.

They just put it on a loader .
Piggy back the OG obd hide of where they won't find it , put fake in factory spot & wire fake to horn , I think 2 or 3 pins , so when they go to use the OBD it Fry's it !

Quicker than I could react, a bicyclist opened my unlocked passenger door and swiped my backpack sitting on the seat - containing a corporate laptop / confidential documents / personal effects. I jumped out and gave chase - STOPPED they cyclist but received a shattered (not just broken - SHATTERED) leg for my efforts. Police came to visit me in hospital. NEVER asked a single question (not one!!!) just told me I'd assaulted the cyclist and I would be charged with CRIMINAL ASSAULT unless I signed a "No Police Action Statement" for the theft of my backpack. If I ever see one of the black costumed SWOT team (Space Wasting Oxygen Thieves) in a severe state of distress, I will NOT assist. I will NOT call for help. I will NOT stop. I'll smile, as I remember the parting words of the police that came to visit me in hospital.

Ross! Haven't even watched the whole video but thank you for bringing this to the attention of the viewers - I personally ended up selling my VF II SSV Redline (the one you reviewed 2yrs ago!) which I loved and had for 7 years because of this issue..
I had the BCM locked which helped because it did prevent it from being stolen from a pub but after that was too paranoid to have it as a daily...

September in the car park at work I had attempted theft of my vf SSV. They cut through the front inner guards, got into the car but were spooked by a passer by and drove off. The day before I had it washed polished and clay barred. Looked like it just came off the line I was so angry and upset. Now I use a pro lock on the steering wheel. Had to put a claim in because damage to front and drivers door handle. I stress now all the time. You work hard to pay and afford what you own and love, it’s totally destroyed.
Repair it, buy a shit heap for work, keep your Commi as a weekender and lock it up in a shed!

The problem is with crime in general. I've lived in one of the most crime ridden places in all of Australia. The suburb I live in ,for 23 years , in particular is notorious for all crime. I've been attacked while trying to help a neighbour into my house whilst her son chased her with an axe and took a swing at me. But he didn't even get jail time not do the motorbike or car thieves. They either part them out or destroy the vehicle. I've spoken to many cops but they say they're losing the battle as most perpetrators are juveniles. Now with soarring costs of living and Rent increases ,above 50% a week in most cases, it's only getting worse. This country is but a ghost of its former self. " She'll be right mate " has cost us dearly.

I've been getting some dirty looks from other motorists thinking I'm probably in a stolen car. Asians aren't normally driving VF GTS I guess. Got to the point of me having to fit IGLA immobiliser,relocated horn,BCM locking and a hidden magnetic kill switch. Plus the bloody car is parked behind bollards full of concrete. My Mrs want it gone because she's worried some slime bag will try to rob our house for it. Sad state of affairs. Not to mention my insurance have gone up heaps too.

this reminds me when Subaru WRX's were the hot car to steal. An owner in Sydney nearly got car jacked and after that he sold the car for the same reason as your thinking of selling your car. Nobody should feel uncomfortable driving their own vehicle but I can understand why people would give in as their family's safety comes first.

Fuck having car insurance just to drive your vehicle on the road, glad here in New Zealand you don't need insurance to drive.
My 2009 FPV has climbed to $1800 in insurance and thats for driving 3 days a week. And the reason why the government wont do anything about it cause there is no revenue to be made locking these hoods up.
The sad reality is the government is happy these cars are off the road so you will be forced into an EV

Even putting them up for sale, inviting a potential thief to your home, even if you meet up at a petrol station, they could get someone different to follow you home.
I work as a mechanic and just the other week one of the guys VF SS was stolen out of the car park at smoko, was in and out in 5 mins. A guy who also works in the industry told me its easier to steal a car with a start/stop button then a car with an actual key, there's also an app you can get which helps you steal cars as well. The obd port is the main way they do it as well.

I was at deposit stage on a really nice VF ute and have delayed my decision. Great cars but too risky to buy something that can be stolen so easily and regularly.

There is a wire for the horn that runs under front passenger wheel arch. This is what they will disconnect fiirst bc the alarm system is wited to the horn so only lights will flash when door is opened.
Consider changing wire harness positioning.

I remove the ignition fuse in my 2017 redline just incase when I'm at dinner even with all the anti thefts devices I have installed including the IGLA system and Track My Ride GPS. A tow truck can simpy take it away but I could track them if they don't find my GPS which is hard wired.

It is not necessarily thr boys and girls in blue fault with the repeat offenders. It more the case the legal system and magistrates whi grant bail. The cops arrest them and it is some weak magistrate who grants bail and gives a slap on the wrist

Back in the day, I had an 1977 LX Torana SLR5000. To say I was paranoid that someone would steal it was an under statement. Almost any Holden Key would open it and start it. I wired the positive of the ignition coil to a toggle switch, then to ground. Hid the switch under the seat. Also had a battery isolation bolt. and another method that I'm not going to give away. Mongoose alarm with tilt sensor on backup battery helped. If the engine won't start, then it's reasonably safe.

"To say i was paranoid" is an understatement, Last year of my apprenticeship i bought the first of the Falcon GT , XR, 289. turned heads wherever it went, One noise at night, up i would get, would not park it anywhere unless i could see the car. I spent most of my driving in an old EH and the GT was parked up in a alarmed garage. I kept it for a year and drove the EH , Paranoia gone and so did the girlfriend.🤣🤣.,

I worked security for 20 years and generally if someone wants in, they're generally getting in and it costs a lot to fix and replace things, sometimes you just gotta improvise at your inconvenience. I know this would be a pain in the arse thing to do, but if you're a weekend driver with your expensive car and worried about it. Maybe consider things like jacking your own car up and removing two wheels, and put the wheel nuts in different location to the wheels. I'm sure someone can with good car knowledge can think of something else like disconnecting an important cable or remove some of those fuse things that do lights and other electronics....How about a PIR camera that's direct to your phone looking at your car. You could think about ways to secure/harden your garage door the good car sits behind.
What about even just removing the car battery?

Many VF owners are adding a bypass wiring to get to the horn rather from the guard. The obvious GPS tracker and removing fuel pump and starter relay will help.

Speaking of coming down hard on holden owners, I legit got a defect for pinstriped taillights on my vy calais yesterday! Absolutely pathetic they couldn't pick on anything on the car but that. They'd been on the car over a year and never had an issue till yesterday 🙄

Isolate the fuel pump circuit. Run another wiring harness for the horn and even another horn. Reposition the OBD connector or even fit a fake one after its been repositioned. It really sucks!

Mine is a VE SS, always wondered how they steal these things, watched a similar video yesterday which went into a bit more detail about the method, can't believe Holden made the horn wire so accessible. They recommended a relocated horn, and an immobiliser with a pin pad. $3000. 😬

Pulled my decision to buy a VF SS recently, had cash and was looking high and low for the right one until I got wise to what was going on. Out of f**king control and agree - it definitely looks like organised crime way more than just joy riders.

Not just commodores, classic cars, and all makes of performance cars. Got approached at a red light at 2:00 am by someone on foot wearing a hoodie in my GT, I ran the light but can't use it as an excuse to avoid the fine. If there's a car behind me, I don't recognise as local I don't even turn down my street any more, just drive past and turn around. Had a sus black BMW suv following for five turns ( I live on a dead end road off of a dead end road off of a dead end road) so I sank the right boot and left hard, but with new laws you can get jail for excessive speed.
So many posts on Facebook car groups about stolen cars it's sickening.

recently was followed by a Toyota land cruiser, made 4 left turns to complete a circle testing to see if I was being followed, sure enough followed me through every turn. drove another 500 meters down the road and abruptly took another left, they had to cross the centre lane to make the turn to continue following me. watch your 6 guys and if something feels off trust your instincts. after reporting the incident I was informed that they where planning to follow me home and ambush me in the drive way. worlds going to shit my guys stay safe.

A Prolock steering wheel lock for AUD 80 will make it a bit harder, they'll need an angle grinder to remove it, but at-least you'll hear the noise at night if they are trying.

I got told by a mate years ago that he used to pinch cars in the 60s go for a joyride and return the car leaving 10 bucks on the seat for fuel
No different to when I was young..all commodores were vulnerable. Everyone fitted alarms like Mongoose, Piranha etc. Those my age know what I mean..nothing new except maybe overseas export.

Something I'm not proud of, but in 88 I got caught steeling a Ghostbusters toy from Toy World before school when I was ten years old. I was held in the store until cops arrived then taken to school in the cop car. A few weeks later I was dragged through the children's court. Seems the cops put more effort in to a child that stole an $8 toy back then than they do teenagers who steal an $80,000 car today.

Why blur it out (@2:10) thieving c***s already know what equipment they need to steal cars & how to obtain said equipment & if they're just starting their career in crime the information is probably just a Google search or group chat question away, so blurring it out won't make any difference.
Putting pics of the devices out there for general knowledge may be of some benefit.
I wouldn't have the faintest idea what is required to steal a VF Commodore as I'm not a thief, nevertheless if I had an idea of what the equipment required to steal one looked like and I saw someone else in possession of that equipment then I would be looking at that person rather suspiciously.

I was told by the Holden dealer to remove the card from the owners manual wallet which has the key and security codes. I think that allows people to replicate the code. Without that, a device alone cannot just randomly replicate a key. Also do not leave keys in plain sight and also don’t leave spare keys at the same house the vehicle is when you’re not there.
Sadly we have absolutely useless government bodies that are so weak and let these offenders get away with next to no penalties. The parents should also be held accountable for not having proper control of their children.
At 17, these kids can leave home and get Government assistance. There is no old time Logic left in our World.

Part of the reason I reluctantly sold my SSV VFII 3 days ago was the fact I was concerned about parking it without having to be worried it would still be there when I returned. I know first hand the Police are doing all they can in Qld to catch car thieves. Its basically a game of catch and release.

Anyone who has an expensive hsv or any car like that should definitely invest in bollards in the garage/ driveway, along with air tags, it'll cost a bit but if you care about your car enough you'll go to the lengths to keep it safe

have to admit I don't see many HSV out in the wild anymore - except my Grange which now attracts some attention, but thankfully from older people so I don't think they'd be on the radar for youngsters

Problem is what if they pinch it at a servo or a shopping centre or a mates house etc. At least one countermeasure on your car will go along way
Guy installing a security system at my house said one problem is if they can't steal it, they'll trash it. Kick in the panels and smash windows. So the car is a write-off anyway..

If theft of a car is still a crime, collect money from the victims of crime levy fund. If you get in writing that theft of a car is not actually a crime, collect car from wherever you feel like and remove the blinky lights they put on the top.

5 ways i can think of is 1-get an OBD2 lock for your car they come with security screws but, the thief can buy the same lock and hes got instant access to the screws with the tool that comes with the lock, so buy the security bolts that only screw the one way, you cant unscrew them you screw them on with a flat blade but cant unscrew them because the screw doesnt have the material for the flat blade to go in reverse, 2- another is to have an air horn attached to your car alarm, a seperate wire running not behind the wheel arch but a different path going from your alarm to a air horn,so you can still use your normal horn for normal use and have the air horn for the alarm so when they cut the wire to your horn they think they have disabled your alarm and it will scare the crap out of them when your air horn alarm goes off and i bet they dont hang around to steal it and 3rd is have a gps tracker with an immobilizer so you can be alarmed through your phone about the theft and you can immobilize your car and track it to wherever is hidden 4 -keep your keys in a small tin at night so they cant pick up your fob frequency, and finally 5- buy a good steering wheel lock not a cheap one but a good solid one and turn your tires toward the curb or on the angle so they cant tow it away or put it on the back of a flat bed truck because it wont roll in a straight line i mean where theres a will theres a way but if you did these 5 things then i reckon you have eliminated %90 of the chances of your car being stolen, of corse if they have enough time they can by-pass these precausions but if you limit their time then your in with a chance

I had my VK Charger parked out the front of a pub in SA as I was having lunch I noticed a Nissan patrol with a car trailer drive past a few times, after about the 5th time it parked in front of my car so I ran down towards the patrol, he got tfo real quick but it just goes to show how quickly a car can be taken if people are out scoping all the time.

I work for a company that does hail repair and i can tell u what i think is the problem with insurance companies is that they r only aloud to use new genuine parts not really aloud to use new after market parts and also that any old bumpers hoods guards instead of being fixed r just thrown way coz its cheaper to write off the stock than return it or fix it and that also sometimes applies to brand new genuine parts that get shipped to wrong place.
Its crazy and so messed up.

@RossReviewsau see this is what I mean and what's crazy is that I've seen bumper after bumper just being throughout(when I say this im talking about all kinda of model cars from all the big car companies E.g Toyota)and there is no company out there that is aloud to take these old bumpers and recycle them for a bumper that might b more sort after like a vt clubport front bumper for instance or whatever but it's sucks that there isn't a a company out there that's aloud to do something like this probably coz of some bushit copyright issue I guess.

The fact there is no parts support in Australia anymore for Holden Commodores are pushing up thefts. You cannot buy most components now and insurance companies cannot support warranties on repairs and are also writing vehicles off with minor damage as Holden is no longer an entity in Australia.

For those vf owners remove your cars obd plug you can fit a male female plug in the loom behind obd plug, relocate your horn under bonnet, build a simple relay kill switch. All this will cost $20 bucks at best
Add a dummy obd port with 12 volts running though the data ports, that will give them a bad day real quick ;)
