Michael Graves was a great front man for the Misfits. I do think it was a totally different band once he stepped in, but that's an obvious observation. You can't deny what he brought to the band. I love Graves, great music regardless the "on going" battle of "who was better" you have to separate the vocalists, but Graves did the Misfits well, I listen to both Danzig and Graves and call them both Misfits, great music, listen to both "versions" of the bands daily at work, never gets old.
You can't say he is wasting away his talent and obviously you don't get it. I gave up a full ride scholarship to the most prestigious Musical School in my state to join the Army. I play 7 Different instruments and you know what? I don't regret a day of my life for doing it. Music when it becomes a passion is about what YOU want to do with it, not what others say you should do with it. Graves is doing what Graves loves and thats all that matters.
Graves wasn't kicked out. He left because he was in the marines and he was being deployed not long after his last few shows with the Misfits. Then Doyle left because he didn't like the direction Jerry was going to for the band.
Graves didn't join the Marines until 2006. I should know, my father was the one that recruited him while he was on tour with Gotham Rd. And I can tell you he NEVER deployed. EVER. As a matter of fact he never made it through bootcamp. So Mike9999999 you're wrong.
lol, no. Graves wasn’t willing to travel for a European tour, Mike Hideous was booked to stand in for the tour, Graves threw a hissy fit as is his wont and was fired from the band. Fortuitous, as they may have never recovered from that era otherwise
Grave's was open about smoking pot, I remember reading an interview years ago that Jerry got mad he smoked a joint before a sound check.. I love the early Misfits and consider the Misfits with Graves almost a totally different band, both are great.. but current Misfits w/ Jerry on vocals is no good. personally I would hardly consider it a drug, a strong cup of coffee gets to me more than smoking a joint. I would trade the legality of alcohol for marijuana any day.
If marijuana was the only drug Graves was addicted to he may not have the issues he is dealing with now, but from what I hear Graves has moved on to bigger drugs. It's a shame as he has talent, but is wasting away. Only may not be the greatest singer, but I respect him for looking out for his band and booting the druggie.
