reading and replying to all your comments now im back from Norway so pls be patient with me, trying to respond to everyone!! 🫶 ALSO just to say, if ur commenting spam / linking to random brands in my comments ur immediately getting reported so maybe don't bother lol
personally i hate "what's out" videos. they encourage people to throw away perfectly fine items and buy new ones. it's kind of mean when people are telling me, that my favorite New Balance 530 sneakers are out and i need to buy stupid burgundy sneakers from adidas now. i would like if content creators would more reflect about the negative impact of those videos and came to the conclusion to never make them again. "Things i do and don’t like"" is at least a little bit better.
Yeah that mindset is so alien to me. Its complete consumer brain rot, and betrays an enormous insecurity about having any concrete sense of personal style.
had this exact same thought when I was filming / editing - didn't want to accidentally encourage anyone to throw out their leopard print items just because I said I don't like them!!!! the reason I even included it was bc I have to think about the RUclips algorithm which idk if it would favour in/out lists 🥲 but saying that I completely agree with what you said & if I do another one of these in the future just gonna call them things I do/don't like again to avoid the idea that things are ever "out" - great comment 🫶
i'm only 28 but i remember as a little kid how much effort my parents and grandparents put into making photo albums. it wasnt even for specific special events, just us existing & growing up. my parents were awful people but the idea is very sweet & it is so special to look back on my siblings childhood pictures. it makes me sad realizing that as much as we have ease of access to photographing everything in an instant, in general, it seems our culture doesn't make photo albums that much anymore. hearing them described as a coffee table book was kind of a jarring realization of what kind you specifically meant lol
honestly the death of the photo album has been upsetting me lately, I'm gonna start making them bc scrolling through a camera roll doesn't hit the same as looking back through childhood photo albums 😭
Leopard print never ever goes out of style lol but my personal style is vintage. And leopard has expanded the decades so it is definitely a neutral to me 😂
I actually think it's hilarious, that it's 'in', currently. I had a real thing for leopard print all my life. And I've always felt somewhat awkward about it, because it was my impression, that it's seen as 'tacky'. And now suddenly, in my 40's, I'm apparently right on trend with it 😅.
even tho i dont see it as a neutral i also like leopard print as well. i will wear basically anything floral or like small polka dots so i feel like everyone has a favourite print/ pattern that is classic for them
my current 'in' is taking two months to find a brown t-shirt I like. I've wanted one for ages, but rather than going for the first one I see, I'm taking time to see what other designs I like. And that's inspired by your content!!!
LOVE THIS 🫶 I guess I'm doing the same with some of the pieces I want for autumn, we're well into October but I've still not found my perfect items so I guess they may be winter buys, or even autumn2025 if I have to!! sending patience and solidarity lol
the one I just got is 100% wool and I definitely wash it less than my poly blend ones but living in London I feel like it gets dirty every time I wear it out 😭 trying to change my mindset on this but the city can be so disgusting
I rarely ever hand wash clothes, despite half my wardrobe saying so. Cold water gentle cycle, put them in with other 'hand wash' items of like colors to save water and then hang/lay flat to dry depending on instruction. It's worked absolutely fine this way and even my fast fashion brand items have lasted a long time. The one thing you really need to pay attention to is dye warnings. If I have a label that states dyes could run, I wash those alone once or twice first. Also having mesh bags for bras, and other specialty items that benefit from not being jostled as much helps too. Save your sanity. Let the machines do the work.
I'm like this with a lot of my clothes but I've been burned one too many times with wool garments and now I'm adamant about handwashing!! honestly once I get in the mindset I actually find it a really nice task and a break from my day
I love the idea of using embroidery to mend holes in your clothing. Also timestamps on photos should come back (like the old film camera days). It’s so hard to remember the time when you took a photo of something without checking the metadata.
Have we all got collective amnesia or something??? Cow print was trending during lockdown and now where are all the cowprint pieces? In the damn landfills, is where they are. Please be mindful of what you buy and the trends that you indulge in!!! I do however think that leopard print is pretty timeless, same with snakeskin print. Tiger, zebra and cow print however? Absolutely not.
Snakeskin? Respectfully, I think snakeskin also had its 15 minutes of microtrend recently - half the tops I see in charity shops these days are snakeskin print. If you like it though, more power to you, now would be a great time to snatch up some good thrift finds.
funny you say this bc I did, in fact, forget cow print was trending a few years ago 😭 tbf with the amount of micro trends and how fast the trend cycle it's impossible to keep up - almost everything has had it's 5 minutes since tiktok came along!
The bitten nail trend reminds me of the anorexia with twiggy trend. It's the leave no stone unturned theory of marketing. Why leave neurosis out selling? Or perhaps they are trying to normalize the neurosis that already exists as we try to buy our way into hippieness. The barn coat trend feels like cosplaying working people for the rich and stylish.
Honestly I’ve loved leopard print since I was literally born so it’s my ride or die! However, I also think it’s annoying the way it trends in and out because I feel like people who resonate with that fierce, bold look have always been on the animal print wave. Like we don’t need it to be trendy to enjoy it-in that way, it is timeless ❤
@@katierobinson with global warming we don't get thigh high snow like in the 80's for example, it just rains with a bit of snow in between, so I find that Canada goose levels of winter coat is over kill most days unless you live in altitude (800m+). If temps drop under 0° I just wear a thick hoodie underneath and I am good. No joke but keeping your clothes long-term and adapting them takes some... mindfulness, and weening oneself off the 'sugar high' of shopping 🛍️. It's up there with quitting smoking 🚬
Of all animal prints, cow print is definitely the one I'm most likely to want to wear, but it's because it's the most abstract one since it's just random uneven black/brown spots. They remind me of inkblots in a fun way! Honestly, being burned out because of fashion week sounds pretty normal and in line with other similar phenomenons. I've heard similar feelings in video game culture regarding what we call the "E3 season". The E3 used to be an event during which most big video game companies joined to showcase their new and upcoming games, it was surrounded by INSANE hype until some big developpers started to pull out to do their own event during the same moment, and then the pandemic really killed the E3. But companies have kept putting out big announcement at that same period every year on their own or in some smaller events which means there's a LOT to keep track of now more than ever, and journalists and content creators are getting a similar feeling of being burned out, as well as becoming more and more disillusioned by the anti-consumers/pro-investors mentality that publishers are barely hiding anymore. Part of it is growing older and not being as easily impressed, but becoming more critical of industries and being bombarded left and right by promotional campaigns all the time definitely affect how we feel about bigger events
"I don't know how much Big Barncoat is paying Vogue" 🤣hahaha I love this. There is a thing called washable wool but it's basically a process of bleaching the fibers and then adding a polymer coating. I just find wool is too much palaver so I only keep it for small items like hats/scarves.
I've had a Barbour wax jacket (secondhand) that is the barn coat silhouette, and a quilted version I bought a couple of years later, since I was an older teen. It's nice that it's trendy now but I'd definitely recommend getting them secondhand, choosing a silhouette that matches you, and fabric that fulfills a need for your closet. If not, use the one you have! My wax coat is my main rainy weather jacket. The quilted version is my main medium-cold (puffer not needed) weather jacket. But if you have something that suits all the needs a barn jacket could, don't waste your money - what you have is good enough! I've never liked leopard print but I love cow and snake print - have had pieces in both prints for many years. With how many clothes there are out there, nothing is really out of trend. I personally despise fringe but it's a classic to so many people and very trendy. Bc of how fast the trend cycle is, encouraging people to purchase secondhand and think about the role an item fulfills in their life is major imo. That's my trend. Lol
love this!! agree that it feels like a lot of people have something else already that does the work of a barn coat so it's kinda purely for the aesthetic, obvs that's fine if it's your style but it being sold as a must-have that looks effortlessly cool for everyone is annoying me a bit🥴
Knitting in a cafe is such a cool activity, my best friend and I just talked about it recently; it was quite popular in 2012 - the Stitch 'n Bitch ☺ (I still have an infinity scarf started in 2012 that I could try to finish 😅)
came here to say that - Stitch 'n' Bitch had such a moment a good decade or so ago, and there were quite a few specialist (but modern) knitting shops opened in London at least. Not sure if any of those remain tho...
in my experience, the expensive knitwear i've bought (mostly secondhand because who can afford a $100 pair of gloves) doesn't pill, but the cheap polyester knitwear pills instantly. i totally understand wanting your clothes to last longer, but it's definitely worth getting quality knits!
As a knitter lemme get you onto Eucalan to handwashing your knits, no rinse and makes it easy + if your jumpers are wool you rarely need to wash anyway x
On the washing sweater part. 1. I always wear long sleeve tops or t-shirts that cover my arm pits for sweaters I don't wanna wash frequently. So they can absorb most of the sweat and can be washed easily. 2. Is there a difference in the American top loading machine? Because all of the side loading machines I know, in my country, have a hand wash/wool setting that is very gentle to the clothing.
1. I also tend to wear t-shirts under jumpers for this reason! but living in London makes my clothes feel dirty almost as soon as I go outside! 2. unsure about US but I wouldn't trust my 100% wool sweater on any cycle in the washing machine bc I've been burned one too many times before 😭
I like the aesthetic of bag charms, they are fun, but I looked at what is on offer and I couldn’t find anything that resonates with me. I don’t want to put a random bag charm on my bag just because it’s trending right now.
I'm with you on basically all these things. Well, maybe not animal prints and glasses with big frames, but otherwise 👍🏻. And especially the whole 'contrived style' thing. How do people not feel manipulated and put off, by this constant push to buybuybuy?
literally, how are ppl not exhausted by the endless marketing on tiktok that promises you'll look effortlessly cool if only u buy these 10 products and wear them a specific way
I've been a hat boy for 3 years now, and I love finding statement hats that just help complete a look! Also helps that hats can also be styled in new ways through pins and hat position. Berets are no exception, don't care if Philippine heat will make me sweat XD For bag charms, as much as I love decorating my bag with pins, trinkets, and plushies, I HATE how much it's gotten so big recently. I decorate my bag as a way to represent my personal collection of my interests over the years, from my favorite games to local artists I love to even just a place I want to remember. The bag charms I see these days feel so distant from that concept, far from their collector's origins such as the Japanese Ita Bag. I'll definitely still continue to decorate my bags long after the trend is dead because I know that I'm decorating my bag for me and not for other people.
Tbh, I think most of the really inauthentic feeling stuff is on pinterest, where you just get a picture of a bag without the context of who owns it and where they got everything from. Maybe it’s different if you live in a really trendy area, but most embellished things that I personally see in real life still have some effort and personality put into them. In general, seeing real people wear clothes they’re attached to over and over again every day gives me a bit of hope in the face of internet trends.
One of the reasons the barn coat is a banger is tje durability. I don’t think it will be something that falls out of style, but will fall out of trend. I see it as a coat to wear for many years to come - which is sustainable.
I really do not actively follow fashion trends but OMG as soon as I saw the "chipped nail trend" it reminded me of school (like grade 5 or 6) cuz it was a trend at my school back then (which was only a few years ago) 😭😂 oh how history repeats itself
Ooo yes tailoring is a lost art. I lost a few dress sizes post baby and got 2 dresses tailored by the most lovely lady in town and I’m so glad my mom suggested this before I donated!
Loved it❣️ for me leopard print is kind of like basic since it really goes well with my appearance. bought leopard dress last year, predicted another one trend
I think a traditional leopard print only works as a neutral for "high-contrast" people, were the hair contrasts the skin a lot, because it's a very busy print and usually warm toned. People with low contrast or blond or (dark)blond hair could maybe wear a "washed-out" or cool-toned leopard print, but even then it can really overwhelm them. The "blond" people that I usually see wearing leopard print (generalisation here) dye their hair (platinum) blond, but they have very dark eyebrows and lashes, so they're high contrast originally with dark hair.
I bought a leopard pair of trousers eventually, I see this as a trend that's on its way out, I don't generally follow trends though and the dark green leopard option I went for felt right for me.
I love the barn jacket but it also goes with my personal style. I also like the bag charms but I agree that how society is pushing them is not it. I also agree with your take on animal print. I only ever wore it in high school and I am highly unlikely to wear it again.
this, if it goes with your style then amazing but if it's not then whyyy for the sake of a trend that aims to look effortlessly cool except u need specific items worn in a specific way to achieve them 😭
If you ever do find a debobbler I'd appreciate a recommendation! I'm in the same handwashing boat for a lot of jumpers and removing them one at a time is just too much.
I've always worn leopard print in small doses but now that it's so ubiquitous I feel weird wearing it. I guess I don't want to look like I'm jumping on a trend waggon....maybe I'm overthinking these things 😅 Edit: on the barn coat thing - I get your point but that's true for a lot of things in fashion, the idea that something should look effortless even though in reality, at least some thought was put into it. Also, barn coats (just like parkas for example) are practical for people who don't want to wear handbags, the pockets are just big enough to put your essentials in. Aren't they also just an evolution from the Barbour coats that were trending a few years ago, Alexa Chung style? Having said that I'm not going to wear one either.
completely agree it's common in fashion, something about the barn coat just feels forced to me however 😭 might just be my personal feeling and something I change my mind on tho! can see how Alexa Chung influenced the look, she definitely makes a Barbour coat work imo
i think “in & outs” are super interesting & i loved your video! if people feel pressured throwing out their stuff based on other peoples opinions, then i think maybe they shouldn’t watch “in & outs” videos?
lolllll some people make them work but I feel it's often in more of a romanticised way than a real life trend if that makes sense?? idk sometimes I can't fully explain why I don't like something but it's just wrong to me
Debobblers are the best, especially the newer versions. I had one years ago and it didn't do the greatest job so I donated it, but I bought a new one about a year or two ago and it does a great job. Just be careful, make sure you have the garment on a flat surface and stretched out well or you can have it grab the garment and chew a hole in it. 🙄👀(yes, I did this.)
I’m kinda moved by the cowprint tbh cause all the fits I’ve seen recently are quite chic but definitely we’ve lost the plot with those miumiu nails 💀 nice viddd
same, but are they actually fits or outfits that only look good on insta / Pinterest?? I find inspo pics so hard to imagine irl but if I do manage they always look unwearable for every day 🫶
Saying leopard is a neutral started as a p take because some many people wear it. I’m talking years ago. For me camo is a “neutral” for the same reason.
The chewed nails/chipped nail polish thing is too much. I like nice sturdy pieces that look "worn" (that's part of why I love thrifting), but the nails is taking the idea too far. It also feels weirdly... infantilizing? I feels like a reach, but given the record of the industry, I can't help that feeling. Coffee table books are so cool! I thought the Chanel book was dumb because it makes people look desperate. But a book with photos of your special moments? Please! It is such a cool idea and has the added cuteness of offering to share those special memories with your guests because the book is just there in the coffee table, inviting people to open it.
it's just soooo weird, what exactly are we glamourising?? and exactly my thoughts on coffee table books, it's such a better idea than scrolling back through your camera roll!
I like to pull color palettes from, like, fruit and flowers, but also food. Especially those super aesthetic pictures of their dishes that nice restaurants use, the super perfect photos of vineyards and orchards with fruit and whatnot that booze and food producers like to use for advertising, and those artfully arranged photos of their treatment rooms with the obligatory random plant in a vase that hotel spas put in their services menu. I already know that at least one professional picture person has put in a lot of hours making those pictures look their absolute best and making all the colors look nice together, why not focus on those sources for decent color palette inspiration?
Never liked the cow print. The connotation of wearing a very recognizable skin of an animal, and the one whose name is used as a pejorative at that, makes me uncomfortable.
I agree with you somewhat on the bag charms take. I see what you mean about how manufactured it can all seem. I've been alternative for more than half my life now, so having bag charms is just something I've always done. I'm also in the anime community so again, this is not new for me. To see bag charms get really popular and become a super mainstream thing is kinda weird lmao but at least some people are enjoying themselves.
I especially love the reminder to be creative! I got a group of friends together and we all had a craft night, it was so much better than a night out! Also the point in albums 🥹 instantly nostalgic to think about flipping through a real photo album…that would make a great gift for my kids. They love photos ❤ I really appreciate and enjoy your videos

You don't need to wash often your knitwear if it is in majority natural fiber. Just air it and that's it! I am with you with the blazers!!!!

As I sit here knitting and watching this video, you are so correct. Crafting as a social activity in a shared space is so important.
Our local library has a “bring your own crafts” afternoon
I love that you're knitting and listening to me talk about this at the same time 😭

I bought a barn coat in Walmart in 2017, love it. Have rewaxed it twice. Nice and warm in these alpine streets.
Waxed cotton coats are such a great natural alternative to the majority plastic raincoats and are way more stylish too.

In general, seeing real people wear clothes they’re attached to over and over again every day gives me a bit of hope in the face of internet trends.
this!!! wearing something for you and not other people is the only mantra you need when playing with fashion!
One of the reasons the barn coat is a banger is tje durability. I don’t think it will be something that falls out of style, but will fall out of trend. I see it as a coat to wear for many years to come - which is sustainable.
interesting point!!! they do tend to be made from durable materials so I can definitely see them lasting if they're looked after!
Bag charms comes from Japanese school girls charming their boring school bags ,💼 which is a part of their school uniform.
I think it also pull from alternative and geek subculture. I remember pin bag being a really big thing in alt subculture and fandom
Your voice is addictive. Like fashion I am just consuming your contents over the weekend 😁
haha thank you, there's a lot of it for you to binge since I talk to much 💀
I really do not actively follow fashion trends but OMG as soon as I saw the "chipped nail trend" it reminded me of school (like grade 5 or 6) cuz it was a trend at my school back then (which was only a few years ago) 😭😂 oh how history repeats itself
Ooo yes tailoring is a lost art. I lost a few dress sizes post baby and got 2 dresses tailored by the most lovely lady in town and I’m so glad my mom suggested this before I donated!
Finally someone who shares my opinion on leopard print!! haha
Debobbler and cashmere comb is really worth it! I dont own any sweatshirts/hoodies and only wear knitwear. I basically never wash mine.
brb googling cashmere combs bc they sound so cool
Loved it❣️ for me leopard print is kind of like basic since it really goes well with my appearance. bought leopard dress last year, predicted another one trend
love this for you!!!
Omg totally agree with the blazer thing! I love the oversized fit except the length I hate it on me
may go ahead with cropping mine and if so I'll update on the channel if that helps!!!
Barn coats forever. I don’t even have a barn.
💀 crying at I don't even have a barn
I think a traditional leopard print only works as a neutral for "high-contrast" people, were the hair contrasts the skin a lot, because it's a very busy print and usually warm toned. People with low contrast or blond or (dark)blond hair could maybe wear a "washed-out" or cool-toned leopard print, but even then it can really overwhelm them. The "blond" people that I usually see wearing leopard print (generalisation here) dye their hair (platinum) blond, but they have very dark eyebrows and lashes, so they're high contrast originally with dark hair.
you're amazing. Never stop making such videso. Also your voice is so calming. And also you resemble my best friend. ❣❣❣❣
haha ty, so much praise 🫶
I bought a leopard pair of trousers eventually, I see this as a trend that's on its way out, I don't generally follow trends though and the dark green leopard option I went for felt right for me.
"it felt right for me" is the perfect way to look at it!
"the idea is this is a jacket you can wear anywhere...just throw it on."
I...so like sweatshirt?
I love the barn jacket but it also goes with my personal style. I also like the bag charms but I agree that how society is pushing them is not it. I also agree with your take on animal print. I only ever wore it in high school and I am highly unlikely to wear it again.
this, if it goes with your style then amazing but if it's not then whyyy for the sake of a trend that aims to look effortlessly cool except u need specific items worn in a specific way to achieve them 😭
knitting used to be a social thing! bring back knitting circles
A disposable razor is good for debobbling jumpers, as long as you do it carefully!
may have to try this!!!
If you ever do find a debobbler I'd appreciate a recommendation! I'm in the same handwashing boat for a lot of jumpers and removing them one at a time is just too much.
ooh will definitely let you know! had some people comment to say razors are a good option but I don't personally know if that's true!
I've always worn leopard print in small doses but now that it's so ubiquitous I feel weird wearing it. I guess I don't want to look like I'm jumping on a trend waggon....maybe I'm overthinking these things 😅
Edit: on the barn coat thing - I get your point but that's true for a lot of things in fashion, the idea that something should look effortless even though in reality, at least some thought was put into it.
Floral , leopard , check are classic prints.
The barn coats are heinous. Thank you for speaking truth to power @ Big Barn Coat 😂
lolllll some people make them work but I feel it's often in more of a romanticised way than a real life trend if that makes sense?? idk sometimes I can't fully explain why I don't like something but it's just wrong to me
3:14 me watching this on my phone with a cowprint case 👀 🐄
and??? is it cute??? 😅
when i wear cow print it's never srs -- it's kinda meant to be a more lighthearted whimsical day haha
🙄👀(yes, I did this.)
omg good advice ty!!! would cry if this happened, your ruined sweaters are in my thoughts and prayers 💀
I’m kinda moved by the cowprint tbh cause all the fits I’ve seen recently are quite chic but definitely we’ve lost the plot with those miumiu nails 💀 nice viddd
same, but are they actually fits or outfits that only look good on insta / Pinterest?? I find inspo pics so hard to imagine irl but if I do manage they always look unwearable for every day 🫶
Big Barn Coat™ is insanely funny
lol I just imagine a boardroom of 28-35 year old London men all in suits with a Barbour jacket shoved over the top 😭
Saying leopard is a neutral started as a p take because some many people wear it. I’m talking years ago. For me camo is a “neutral” for the same reason.
Young mom here. I'm not buying a barn coat. I could talk to any of the family guys and ask them for an old one
literally this, if I want a barn coat or even just a recommendation im going straight to my dad not a vogue shopping list 😭
I would love to visit Knitting-Cafes! (Actually I'm already working on my sweaters! Yes I plan to make more than one!)
how fun to sit and knit and chat and drink coffee!!
Ok do not wash my sweaters after every use. Is it just me? I wear a t-shirt or blouse underneath, so the sweater is fine adter whole day
ngl I am a fan of barn coats and I'm not a mom
I agree with you somewhat on the bag charms take. I see what you mean about how manufactured it can all seem.
I've been alternative for more than half my life now, so having bag charms is just something I've always done. I'm also in the anime community so again, this is not new for me. To see bag charms get really popular and become a super mainstream thing is kinda weird lmao but at least some people are enjoying themselves.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
bitten nail trend is just.. no
literally why
@@katierobinson it sorta gives me same vibe as rich people tryna dress poor
I especially love the reminder to be creative! I got a group of friends together and we all had a craft night, it was so much better than a night out! Also the point in albums 🥹 instantly nostalgic to think about flipping through a real photo album…that would make a great gift for my kids. They love photos ❤ I really appreciate and enjoy your videos
