"hidden tracks" were a pretty big thing back then, and it was only hidden back then because you'd have to let MX play (on CD) for ages after it ended. There were no time lengths telling you about the "hidden track" on the CD, so that's why it's considered hidden
Keep in mind this CD came out before you could search forward on a CD player so there was no skipping the dead part. If you liked the hidden track your ass was stuck waiting the whole damn time until it started playing. Some bands (like NOFX) would have little blurbs in the middle to let you know you were halfway there.
chino himself says his lyrics r more for contributing to imagery and tone of the song . obviously its not like hes Never got coherent lyrics but a lot ofnthe time he literally just says words yeah
Heyy Jakar!! Deftones is one of my favs but Ima be so real, I only listen to about 3-4 songs off this record lol. If you're down to react to more numetal, I def suggest some Korn. Maybe their first album, Follow the leader, or Issues. I think you'll find them interesting and fun to listen to. Great reaction btw😂😂 Loveeee Dai the Flu and My Own Summer, what can I say lmaoo
Lmaoo I love your comments i appreciate you 🔥😂 I’m happy you love them! & remind me of Korn in a couple months please! I wanna start them when I’m done with a few more discography’s!
Around the fur to me is amazing , I’m biased cause I grew up with that era, I seen the concerts in the era. I came in this video thinking you would like it more then you did but I get it . Appreciate the review.
yeah i had a feeling you wouldn’t like this as much. white pony’s definetly better. be quiet and drive really is a classic tho, but the rest is with a few exceptions just fine. still like a 7/10 album for me
Im not one to comment much, but your reactions are genuinely good. I love how real you are and aren’t afraid to call out what you don’t personally like 💯 too many fake reactions, but yours feel real 🤌🏽
I listen to deftones like im listening to two people having a conversation with instruments playing in the background. which is what this album sort of is like.
Chino Moreno's other project, Crosses is some of my favorite work of his. A lot of synth rock, 80's sounds, hip hop. I can't believe he's in his 50's now and still got a million things going on 💙 New subscriber as of today, btw
Love the content, keep it up 👍. I totally get you here, early deftones can be too rough on the ears, even for people who like this type of music. Their first album "Adrenaline" is not too different, but I'm sure that you will fw the song "Bored". Post White Pony is a different story, they tend to gravitate more towards that melodic side you see in songs like "Change" and "Be quiet and Drive". Diamond Eyes and Koi No Yokan are highlights of that change in sound. I can't wait to see your reactions of those later albums. Other projects where Chino is involved which I think are very interesting listening experiences are "Team sleep" and "Crosses". Crosses being the more recent one. After you listen to a few more Deftones albums, you should check these too. On a side note, I highly recommend listening to Pinback as well, one of the singers that was involved with Team sleep (Rob Crow) is there as well. Their sound has nothing to do with deftones or nu metal, just a great band with great music, I can't think of a single song of any album from them that I don't like. Crutch is a certified banger.
Wowww okay definitely remind of that band in the future I have to finish a lot of discographies first rn! But I’m doing koi next then diamond eyes so I’m hype bro 🔥🔥
If you’re less into the raw heavy sound, their later albums are for you, Ohms & Koi No Yokan are probably their best & most refined sounding albums, way more melodic & atmospheric. But most of their albums & their sound in general is an acquired taste & usually grows on people before they really become big fans
White Pony was the turning point for them. The first 2 albums were more in the Nu-Metal vein with more rapping and less departures from the rap-metal formula. "Be Quiet and Drive" was the first real departure. Then with White pony forward they start to incorporate elements of shoegaze and take some more risks. I hardly ever go back to the first 2 anymore and I was on board when I saw them live before the 1st album dropped. I grew up with them and as they changed my tastes did as well. Now I appreciate the self-titled album (2003) and the later albums more, until Gore.. but even the last couple have some great moments.
Different genres, but would love to see a reaction to Fumbling Towards Ecstasy by Sarah McLachlan. Criminally underrated album imo bc it’s lyrically so insane. The first track is wild bc it’s written from the perspective of her fan/stalker. Also love Deftones! You should check out Koi No Yokan(:
I understand why you didn't like this album that much, but it is my favorite deftones album I absolutely love this depressive but energetic sound, and for me everything about this album feels very human. The album cover screams passion and dirt, voice does the same. The lyrics for me mean the same. As far as i know and saw on different sources it tells about human nature and all it sins that get you: drugs, women and so on. I just listen to this album and it is easier for me to live and understand people, cos everything they do is in their nature
Totally get you, Deftones in my opinion aren't there for lyrics. I usually just don't look at em, lmao. They give off the vibe that they wrote the melody and rhythm of the vocals before the lyrics, and honestly I'm chill with that. Maybe I'm wrong though, and Chino was just writing crazy cryptic stuff. You get me tho.
Koi No yokan goes hard for me, I know it is not considered the favorite...but I feel like it is the only album from them that has no skips; and I love me some deftones.
So, now that you've gone down a pretty nice Deftones rabbithole, you need to listen to the record that inspired the whole thing. ruclips.net/video/c4UUessm_9U/видео.htmlsi=Yka5Vs--WudWqF8- And then After You'd Prefer An Astronaut, Inlet (their 2020 album)
I love this album, but I can see how it could be grating on the ears for someone who hasn’t been acclimated to this style. appreciate you being real about how you feel about the album though. we all like what we like and there’s nothing wrong with that.
@@IvanAcevedo_28diamond eyes is much more euphoric and atmospheric than around the fur. I think their only two heavy albums are adrenaline and around the fur but I think white pony is their closest to being a cross between all of their genres
@@jakeschindler8596 huh? Rocket skates,cmnd/ctrl,royal,prince are heavy as shit, and the end of diamond eyes is heavy too. Gore is also a pretty heavy and raw sounding album, perfect mix.
You went backwards from White Pony to their heavier shit, you need to go forward from White Pony for the softer Deftones shit that you are looking for. Most of the people who dont like this album werent around when it came out cause it hit like a ton of bricks when it was culturally relevant. Youll appreciate their more recent stuff. It would be like going backwards in Dr. Dre discography and then not liking it cause he got too gangster.
to me this is their first "good" album (im really not into Adrenaline) but I think they only got better from here. Be Quiet And Drive is an amazing song but there's alot of mid on here
I feel like Around the fur as much as it was such an important album for them, it doesn’t resonate with me as much anymore, personally Saturday Night Wrist is my favourite
Always loved this album but there’s definitely some heavy filler that the band later matured out of. Personally I think the self titled is their best album front to back, but it’s also dark and brooding and not the most popular.
Around the fur is not the greatest album they ever made and i feel like it was experminting with their sound here and there which was kind of typical at the time for the sophmore effort. The Deftones first album "Adrenaline" is a classic for me and really got me into them. I bought this one too but had the same feelings you shared. "Adrenaline" was way more raw by comparison to any of their other albums. After their 3rd album White Pony they had a little heavier guitar sound. Primerr 55 used it as a way to take every cuss wordfrom the album and put them all together and building aggression as it went. It was hilarious but kind of awesome.
