I started watching United in 1973, such great times.. Ive not started watching the clip yet, but I remember this being our first home game back in the old first division. I've followed them for 50 years, was at Rotherdam, the nou camp and saw all the titles. But this team and this period stands right at the top of the list of great times following United.
it was around this time that my dad started taking me to the footie (preston fan). love looking back at those days. collected all these players on the footie cards. always watched match of the day saturday night and kick off sunday afternoon. loved the midweek highlights on sportsnight and midweek sports special and listening to 2nd half european commentaries on the radio. great days.
This was my first ever United game and I remember it like it was yesterday, Tony Currie stood out and was great with fans and when the fans sang show us your arse he did pure class, in my opinion we should off signed him I think it could have took us to title again
I was at that game! First time i was ever at Old Trafford, first time i saw an English first division game. United were superb but i will say this, Tony Currie shone for Sheffield, he was different class! One other thing, before the kick off the amount of fights that broke out amongst the fans was a bit disturbing. I'm Scottish and have never been back South to watch football. Glad i saw this clip. Superb entertainment and no mistake!
For those of us there that balmy August Saturday afternoon - is it my imagination, or was the football in 75-76 as good as anything we have seen in the Fergie era ?? Wondering whether it is just passage of time that romanticizes it all ..... ?? This 5-1 was brilliant (after already recording 2-0 away victories at Birmingham and Wolves). I have a Post Office Special Commemorative Edition issued with a stamp to commemorate this match !!
Fun fact - Tommy Jackson, who was making his home debut for Manchester United - his shirt accidently had the United crest stitched on upside down for this game.
wat an opening first game back in division one..5-1 to the red manchester united. n yes Sheffield United were poor. in fact bruce Forsyth scored.. oops alex forsyth.
Never mind the match, dig the crowd. The heyday of the Strettie. Fanatical.

Could this be Rotterdam or Rotherham rather than Rotherdam!?!? Lol😂

Old Trafford was great in those days
Back when it was a game for the real supporters. Long gone ☹️
Agree 100% with you on that
Football now not a British game based on TV rights advertising foreign owners no atmosphere sterile and way too much money
Those were the days, my friends.
I'm a Blade. Before my time, but great to watch...love our diagonal-striped away kit. Thanks.

You can get this atmosphere still, but not at OT alas, get yourself down to Broadhurst Park M40, FC United have it going on.
Which greenhoff was playing Brian or Jimmy?
Brian was playing & Jimmy had not yet joined United.
Yes and the season before ..Brian Greenhoff ..was mostly midfield ..not defender ..like here ..
What were they chanting at the end? It was like "(blank) For England! " but I couldn't catch the name.
Greenhoff
