Embarrassing 80's - Royal It's a Knockout

- It's a Royal Knockout was a one-off charity event which was shown on British television on 19 June 1987. It followed the format of It's a Knockout (the British version of Jeux Sans Frontieres), a slapstick TV gameshow which was broadcast in the UK until 1982.
The event was staged on the lakeside lawn of the Alton Towers stately home-cum-theme park. However, the event used its own specially created immersing set, meaning that the location was not very recognisable in the TV broadcast.
Although regarded as a failure, a similar show (without royal involvement) was made the following year at Walt Disney World in Florida, featuring teams of celebrities representing the United Kingdom, USA, and Australia.
Cant wait for this episode on The Crown
😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Not happened
Not gonna happen.
Lol! 😂
The portrayal of Prince Edward in The Windsors is priceless
I am so glad that Sophie helped Edward to grow up. In the 80s he was as pompous and entitled as Andrew still is.
The equivalent of your Dad getting up at a wedding reception and asking for Ice Ice Baby so he can show off the moves and strut he thought he had 30 years ago (but never had then).
I remember watching It's A Knockout when I was 9 and thinking "I'm a bit too old for this." Fortunately for Eddie, he behaved like a 5 year old, so it was just his thing.
"Bloody prima donna" summed up the event organiser perfectly.
I must be going deaf. Do you know how many seconds in someone shouts 'prima donna' at Prince Edward? 😅
A bunch of nobodies crapping on about a bunch of useless tits without one frame of footage😂
Im not anti-royal.....I actually am a Monarchist, but I remember watching this and cringeing the whole time......
FMHammy - I'm a republican, I can't stand the whole concept of monarchy, yet this is so horrendous to watch that I'm somehow embarrassed too.... In fact I'm reddening as I watch this...Weird..
it's so weird how Edward looked like William but once he opens his mouth, it's the exact opposite of William's awesome personality. can you even imagine William or Harry cutting someone off and snapping, "can I finish"? yuck.
Jane Doe there mum raised them well and made them more down to earth and exposed to the real world. She saw how strange the other royals were. Edward was raised in palaces with weird courtiers behaving like a time passed. So, yeah he would be up himself and completely unaware that ‘commoners’ don’t actually give a toss about him.
Yeah I can actually...both are pretty snobby
William's awesome personality? The delusion.
Over privileged clown
He knew his stunt at backfired and Mummy wouldn’t be happy
You're surprised the royals are assholes to people??
Edward - full of his own self-importance, although he has done nothing to deserve any importance at all. Just birth. And the unspeakable Fergie, what can one say?
He was born?
...As you say.
After that, I'm also struggling to find something.
"Fergie"....No words, really.
Edward is an arrogant prat!
@@mabel8179.. Imagine how the Queen, his mother, felt watching her son carry on like that... I'd be blaming the nannies if I were the Queen!
@@catherinepositano8544 She may have been embarrassed who knows! I am not a royal family fan but one thing can be said about the Queen is that she is dignified.
@@mabel8179 As they all are, including the ones who didn't take part. The only one who appeared at least partly down to earth and not arrogant, was Dead Die.
Prehistoric load of old cobblers! It's about time we shelved this family of old dinosaurs!
And yet apparently Meghan Markle brought shame on the “dignified” royal family. 🙄
@Brendon Manhardt why? So you can breach her privacy and stalk her, you criminal?
She wishes she had. She wasn’t that clever.
@@musicalmagpie741 ..... I am here because I ´ve watched "RIVER" before..... you too?
@@donot2786 I’m afraid not. Worth watching?
@@musicalmagpie741 If you're interested in this royal blunder of a DuchAss and her lap dog Harry, then yes.... have a look.
I think princess Diana would have made it a great show instead of an embarrassment
Agree
I still think it would be pretty embarrassing and apparently she wanted to participate so she wouldn’t be left out but Charles shut down that idea immediately and told her that they are senior royals or some shit so they aren’t going to participate. Thank the lord he said that lmao
Thank God for these talking heads to tell us what to think. Still, it's actually so embarrassing it's difficult to watch. I almost feel sick .
Boy, 'embarrassing, monstrous carbuncle' is a brave phrase coming out of the mouth of Vanessa Phelps.
Thisnameistaken11 Thanks for the laugh!. Yeah, she has very little self awareness one thinks!
I know they did it for charity but it seems that charity was very far from their minds and only used it to justify getting celebrities to agree. Clearly from the interview, prince Edward only cared about his ego and whether people liked it, not how much it raised awareness and money, or the people who will benefit. I find it demeaning actually that these millionaires cant just donate the money on their own and would use important causes to boost themselves
Andrew tops this bunch of jokers now, no sweat!
He also tops children!
I remember seeing this and frankly, my toes have yet to unfurl. The whole affair was something worse than a train wreck. How about a 10 megaton blast.
🤣 yet to unfurl!
Thank god Charles told Diana “no”. The Rottweiler should have been front and center.
I absolutely loved it.
It was fun, silly, a good cause and you can tell the majority also had fun.
The only embarrassing thing that really happened was the somewhat of a fight between meat loaf and prince Andrew over Fergie
He literally says "can I finish?" when asked a question by a reporter🙄
It’s ‘80s never 80’s - that’s embarrassing too.
Duke of Dork...Jimmy Sovile..Stewert Hall....can I finnish...Rolf Horrid..Cliff Richards.. Some Swinging after show party !
I presume you think that your bad spelling can disguise the fact that neither Jimmy Saville, Rolf Harris or Cliff Richard weren't involved? You are one sad, sad person.
i'm pretty sure both sides were just hot and hungry, edward included. sounds like an exhausting affair and everyone was just cranky.
I truly enjoyed watching it !
Stewart Hall and Andrew at the same venue...
Rolph Harris painting the Queen...
Prince Phillip shaking hands with Sir James Saville....
I well remember watching It's a Royal Knockout, filmed just days after my 17th birthday. Then I was a YTS trainee- now aged 53. Aled Jones, a fresh-faced sixteen year old, took part as a page with his voice barely broken (just six months my junior!) Organised chaos with the teams and various slapstick antics going awry!
2:33 what a Wanker!! 😂😂😂
Game of Thrones became real. Beware Joffrey,
“Can I finish!?” 😂😂😂
No…you are finished 😂
As an american I remember watching and liking this when i was little on tv but didn't know what it was called so i found this video now. They are really knocking it! no pun intended. It clearly wasn't as well received. i was 8 so i didnt know any better back then i must have liked the games and the spectacle of it i guess.
The only positive thing was that it raised over a million for the charities concerned.
And of course all this was Fergie's fault! Edward stormed at her. Blame the victim
Watchable in a sort of rubber necking car crash sort of way. Just awful. Achieved the polar opposite of what it was intended to do. Rightly so.
Edward is such a plonker
Stuart Hall at the front door and Jimmy Savile at the back. Prince Phillip was there, but was too busy with the "young lovely" his friend Jimmy had brought him.
kind of felt sorry for Diana at the time, not being allowed to do this.
I think she dodged a bullet in this case.. though, if she had participated, it might not have been quite as badly received
O lucky girl.
Definitely his father's son.
Prince Edward another nob
So Charles banned Diana from doing this train wreck? I guess he really loved her.
Not as embarrassing as cutting Stuart Hall out of the video (even though he's in the title screen). The reasons are obvious, but it's pretty pathetic. If you're reminiscing on our less than positive cultural history, you can't just pretend people didn't exist. I remember him: he existed.
Always thought ...maybe tapeworms can get disgruntled
What a GOON SHOW ! I hate the royals as much as the next man,.but I felt my own face go BRIGHT RED watching there indignation !
Ok the royal people need to stop acting so prime and proper all the time. So they went on a ridiculous game show. GOOD! I want to see an actual human being. They act like a normal person ( WHO'S GOOFY ) when they are at home but why can't they make funny faces and dance a little like we do with our friends when we are out in public? I saw Queen Elizabeth's viewing and I don't like how her family were supposed to walk in a certain way and stand looking away from her casket and looking down. I mean they were going to be looking down and away anyway but still. Are you kidding me? That is your family. Not your bodyguards. That was supposed to be a ceremony. Not a show.
This sealed my distain for these two. Hated it.
Can anyone explain Sloane Rangers and Hooray Henrys?
Apart from the contretemps between Prince Edward and the press, I thought it looked like a lot of fun--a sort of Christmas pantomime edition of the Royal Family. I can see why the Queen and Charles wouldn't participate (though if the Queen had really wanted it stopped, I expect it would have been), but for the junior royals, why not? It was certainly a brighter moment than the decade of scandal and tragedy that followed. Could it have been better production-wise? Probably; but if they'd tried it again it might have gone more smoothly.
Smoothly? It was so pathetically disconnected from reality that the only thing that could have saved it would be oxygen depletion. No judgement whatsoever, just ego.
I've just read about this in the Andrew Marr book; 'The Diamond Queen'
I remember watching this. I thought it was funny.
wait wait wait wait... so this happened?
Who said ''I thought it was great'' at the end, Diana?
Oh my Prince Edward was a cocktail little thing!!😂
I was a kid watching it and all I saw were the royals letting their hair down and having fun for entertainment and for a great cause. It even made me like the royals especially fergie. I wondered why they never did the competition again. Now hearing these critics I now know why. The royals aren't expected to be human beings I see.
It was Edward.
Diana's popularity shows that it wasn't that the public didn't want the royals to be human. It was that Edward torched any goodwill the special may have gotten by snapping at the press (who had been confined to a hot tent for the entire special, hadn't been fed and hadn't been able to see the event very well) for not falling over themselves to congratulate him for his hard work. If he hadn't done that, then the special probably would have been remembered much more fondly.
I don’t think Edward’s response was that bad. You all are a tad over dramatic and letting the press tell you what to think.
So you had a thought. It's in a tiny minority. He threw a tantrum and people are appalled by it. What you think is utterly irrelevant.
He was a pompous spoilt little brat. Zero self-awareness.
No. It was bad
I must be the only person who liked this
Yeah. Pretty much
"On the day, it went incredibly well"?
....Discuss
Primus... She must have been watching something else!
It was that bad nearly got rid of the monarchy - no wonder the queen had reservations about it....
Maybe someone slipped them dope as part of a slow coup
I think it was excellent and hilarious!
Aged well init
"For me, personally, it's brunettes.
But redheads are the wildcard...."

what a wanker
Spike EP he’s not wrong there.
I am a massive royalist and I enjoyed the show and spectacle. And all the people calling out Prince Edward, take a look at yourselves in the mirror first. You may also see an imperfect person.😊
I am pratiyush
Just sounded like a load of bitter Z list celebrities who weren’t asked to take part lol
You really need to read the room.
Happy Memory!! A Bit of Fun for Charity!😊💖🇺🇸👍
At least they had fun lol
All.these usual know nowt people spouting about this being rubbish and I enjoyed it. The press, who has been kept away, weren't the type who would have enjoyed it anyway. They were probably all.the lah-de-dah types
La de dah types? You mean like the royal family? This petulant brat thinks the world owes him a living. The total absence of dignity isn't fresh, nor is it entertainment. I bet the people who defend this rubbish blame Meghan Markle for English weather.
Sounds cringy

I ge 🤣80s p s r f

The only thing embarrassing here is your pathetic presentation of this video incorrectly letter-boxed and badly distorted.
The tournament was an enjoyable and successful fund raising event for good causes and it succeeded wonderfully.
Prince Edward another nob
Better than bloody Charles.
