Not that I don't agree with your point, but 6:27 happens because poor people (mostly indigenous people) can't afford stoves and cook with indoors fires. So, sadly those respiratory diseases have little to do with diesel cars. In fact saying that someone smells like firewood is a racist dog whistle.

The sunrise in Tikal totally worth it!
Tourist pay more for tourist attraction because they can. Yes, you do have more money then 80% of the people in the country. Tourism help maintaining parks and ruins. So it is with appreciation that I pay the tourist price. But I agree, people in trying to survive and get a basic living, they can abuse and ask a higher price for buses or products. Always ask a local for the correct price but be aware you will probably pay a bit more. The economic situation in the country is terrible.
I have been living in Guatemala for 20 years and there is a lot of things I still don’t understand. I am always amaze how youtubers can share their opinion so easily.

  • @elrosan

Please don’t generalize some peoples’ behaviors to represent those of everyone in the country, it’s EXTREMELY insulting. Having been in Antigua I’m sure you noticed some of your generalizations don’t apply. Videos and comments like these unfortunately misrepresent all of Guatemala….especially for people who are not familiar with our culture, who have not traveled there, or who have only been to one or two areas in this country. It’s one thing to say, “I noticed there was a lot of trash in “X” area(s), etc…”….it’s very unfortunate to hear and see videos as these which those who have not traveled there will take to be factual of the entire country.

Having lived in Guatemala for 2 years, I do agree with the 3 negative ones. I remember walking once down the road and there was a sign that said don’t throw trash “no tire busura” and there was a massive pile of trash. I also asked locals what they paid on the buses and only gave that much exactly because they try to over charge. I told a local family how much the taxi wanted me to pay and they laughed and asked if they offered a ride in a helicopter lol, I loved it and would love to go back. I was there in 1999-2001 so been a while

Hi, I was looking for a video about the reality from Guatemala. It's true you are saying. I'm a local here and always I go to a park or just trying to hike a mountain everywhere we have garbage. I always try to collect them into a bag and throw it into the trash can. And additional to that business people are destroying forest, rivers and go on doing it. I am feeling overwhelm to be honest with you , you know is my country and I'd like just make conscience with this people and resolve this issue. Weather here is more hot than other years. I think this is the main problem after all. However I really enjoyed your video, you have a new sub. 🎉❤

I'm looking into moving to Guatemala. Thanks for your take on life there, Diana. According to a 2017 study, across the globe, one million plastic bottles were sold every minute. Of those, only a small percentage were effectively recycled. It's worse now. Of course there are billions of other plastic products being tossed into the environment too. Microplastics, forever chemicals, radioactive waste, pesticides, pharmaceuticals, air pollution, etc. have created a toxic stew. And we wonder why more and more, especially young folks, are dying of cancer.

Yes. November through March is the dry season. End of October works well too.

I did like most of your comments. What I didnt like is the fact that you portray some of my people as ignorant and careless. Another thing that I didnt like is that you dont know Guatemala. Guatemala has 23 departments you bearly visited like 5 of those. So that doesnt make you knowlegeable of the country, neither to be in a position to give recomendations the way you do it. Sorry if you feel offended. We have a saying in spanish. Te trato como tu me tratas. Last but not least, yeah, there is but. Is that tireness and lasyness that you carry around when visiting places. You might need to see a doctor, he can recommend you some supplements and treatment to hype you up a little bit.

Te entiendo lo que dices y como un guatemalteco sería diferente ver este video pero yo siempre comparto las cosas que pienso yo y experimento yo personalmente. Nunca afirmo que las cosas que comparto aquí son 100% ciertas, solo son mis pensamientos

Hey I'm in Guatemala now and I'm here since a month. I've not seen any plastic or garbage on the streets. It's very clean here and people always offer you reusable straws and have a surcharge for take away containers. I mean I haven't been to Guatemala city as of yet but the rest of the country is cleaner than most European countries and the lakes are crystal clear....

Great how described the culture and what is driving the environmental problems. But that is just an example, you talk about many cultural; elements.
