I’ll tell you a little secret on how to win this game. If you understand this secret, you will have a nearly unfair advantage over the other players. So much of an advantage that it mostly takes away the fun. You see, that it is only on the very last hand of the game, that your primary goal should be to try to win. On every other hand, your primary goal should be to try not to have the lowest hand. Except for the last hand, it doesn’t matter who wins the hand (with the exception of someone having 31). You should knock, not when you think that you have the best hand, but rather as quickly as you think that you don’t have the lowest hand. This is the only game I can think of, for which trying to win, isn’t the best strategy. Remember, if more than two people are playing, you don’t need a very good hand in order to not have the worst hand. The crazy thing about it, is that we are so conditioned to try to win, that even if you explain this to people, most won’t understand and they will continue to play to win.
Ah, so true. Having played this game for decades, it is not common to end a game with someone collecting 31, but instead ending due to someone knocking. It is not a bad decision to knock ASAP with just 2 matching suited cards with a count of say 15 or more. It is probable that someone was delt a "rainbow" hand (that's a 3 cards all diff suits) with a max count of 10. Thx much for watching.
