I really love this exercise, Betty, and would love to see you do more! I think NovaColor may have spelled the word "alizarin" incorrectly, by the way. Imagine your saying "there is a lizard in my kitchen" but you leave out the "d" at the end of "lizard." That's "ah-LIZ-uh-rin." I totally loved the painting before you did any edits. I loved it when it was turned upside down, with the circle at the bottom, and the broad white "stripes" looked like stairs in the garden! I think these would make great cards! I DID like the final painting too!
I inly know most of these names from watching so many artists on RUclips for the past 5 years! You aren't the only one who struggles with names. I was just starting to do art back then, I knew nothing, and so I have soaked up so much knowledge from generous RUclipsrs like you. Now even long-time artists friends ask me technical questions because I've studied so much, and I have taken a couple of major courses. I'm a senior now, but how I wish I'd had art in my life when I was young. There are so many more possibilites as an artist these days, of course, so perhaps the timing is perfect. Your work has alwats inspired me - you use colours that just light me up! Your paintings are happy, joyful. Just what people need in their homes!

A good exercise Betty. May I suggest that it isn't always necessary to balance the size. In this instance that fact that the bottom had numerous marks across the piece that actually do balance that larger shape. Food for thought.

This was a well timed class for me to watch. I had given up in despair at my appalling efforts, but went through this carefully and have done a bit better. It obviously takes so much practice and understanding of the process and is so different from my usual watercolour painting, it requires a whole new mindset. I'd love to know how Betty evolved this style and how she started out with it. Thanks once again for a great lesson, it's brightened up my dull wet Norfolk day!

I slowly started to narrow down what products I liked to use and then in 2018 I finally discovered my style of painting. It took many years of playing, exploring, and experimenting. It's all part of the process!
