5 Glue Books , and What You Can Do With a Glue Book- Etsy Update

- These glue books will be available in my shop on Monday, Jan. 20, at 2 pm EST. I have finished making 5 glue books, in varying sizes, and now it's up to you to fill them up with fun images, collages, lists, mixed media; whatever you like to use them for. In this video, I show you how I have used some of my glue books; maybe it will give you inspiration! Thanks for watching!

I love glue books- and they are so calming and relaxing, but they also give us a chance to understand what collage is all about. To practice collage without expectations or judgement- no pressure, just playtime!!
Thank you for sharing your beautiful books in the video. I love the old books. For me junk journals are glue books as that's all I do. I no longer have a sewing machine & use images from magazines & books along with whatever I can find.
My favorite are altered books where the script of the pages still come through and many images are preserved.

These are wonderful! A great place to put all the images, quotes or lists that you want to save but don't know where. I really like the use of a quilt block on the back. I have been a quilter for 30+ years and am always looking for ways to use up "orphan" blocks that never made it into a quilt. TYFS!

I never thought of buying a glue book that is already completed. I think that is a good idea. It could be a nice relaxation for a busy person that doesn’t have time to create their own, or for a senior that doesn’t have the ability to work with their hands to create one. It could also be fun to look at while making a glue book of your own for inspiration, or for someone that just wants to look without doing the creating themselves. I will look into your shop. These are wonderful!

Thanks, Diane, for introducing me to "Glue Books". I had been doing something like decorator's scrape books...but now I like to add my art and uplifting words etc. Most pages are quite colorful..TOTAL ESCAPE!!
There are lots of videos of glue books & ideas to use them too. People can just do a youtube search to find lots. :)

Not even through your video yet, but am loving the fact you are showing your glue books as an example for what people can do in theirs. You said you were involved in some group of lists. My first thought is Cori of The Reset Girl used to have 'Listers Gotta List" or something like that.

New subbie today 1.23.20. I love love love your your books. I have a magazine but never thought of a glue book. It's so fun to glue paper to paper. My sister just laughed at me...lol But thats ok. She loves me. Hugs from Arizona...;)

They are lovely, but I don't think you answer the question of what's the difference between the different kinds of books. To me, it's simply a mindset. Any of your books could be a Glue book, an Art journal or a book of lists,writing, painting, sketches - or whatever, right? It's all about what you put in there and for what purpose. It's about intention and how YOU are thinking about it. ☺
Agreed, I would say this is a junk journal based on being made of an eclectic assortment of pages, and being used as a glue book, meaning it is mainly collage work. Any journal can be used for anything, whatever you use it for is what kind of journal it is. They are all wonderful to work in and look through!
To me a glue book is something you use your imagination to create by covering pages of old books and magazines with images you cut out yourself from anything (newspapers, magazines, any kind of book, mail order catalogues, wrapping paper and the list goes on. Flowers, images, words or phrases, etc. I just glue these cut outs or tear outs to decorate the pages however I like and cover the entire page front and back..Having to buy a glue book that someone else has made to sell takes the fun out of the creative process.
Glue books act as a book to practice and arrange compositions as well. Love your glue books.

Thanks for subscribing, Debra! The list book was a daily list I did just until I ran out of pages. Several months. It was fun. I just don't have time to keep up with something like that. (I got ideas for lists from a site called Listers Gotta List from the Reset Girl)

If it's thin, like a magazine image, I use glue stick (Elmers Extra Strength is what I use). For something textured or heavier weight, I use Scotch Quick Drying Tacky Glue. I find that one in the craft stores. Also available on Amazon.

Beautiful work! I am looking to make a custom journal with pre printed paper on a blank hardbound book. What's the best glue/technique/tools to avoid wrinkles?
Hi, Lorena. If I want to apply an image to a hard cover book, I usually use mod podge, but I do get wrinkles, which I don't mind. However, you can use a silicone based glue, like fabri-tac or 3-in-1 glue (both are by Beacon). Because they are silicone based and not water based, they don't wrinkle. You will have to use a card or stick or something to spread the glue evenly on your image before you apply it. i hope this helps.

I keep wondering if its legal to use magazine pages, etc.in books to sell? Can someone explain the legal issues of that?
Diane, what size is your 4" spine glue book? I love that, the fatter the better.
I think it is approximately 10"x 7" or so
When you make your books from a golden book what do you use to make the spine?
I use a sturdy piece of chipboard (heavy cardboard), reinforced with Tyvek. I cover the spine with fabric.

Can I use chalk in a glue book?
I’ve never used it, but maybe if you spray the chalk with a fixative after you use it, it wouldn’t rub off.

You no longer make glue books for sale...? Your Etsy store is only digital downloads... I suppose that is where the money is these days...
My main income is from the journals I make. I make lots of glue books. They just don't stay in my shop very long. They usually sell within hours of being put in the shop. There are journal making supplies in my shop, also, not just digitals. I don't make much money from digitals.
