Great job Rob. I’ve had similar positive experiences with a 20M delta loop. 40 might be a little unwieldy for POTA though. I love loops. They are efficient and quiet. I built an 80 M full wave horizontal loop which was my only home QTH antenna for years. Loved it. Great to know I’m not the only nut out there who loves experimenting with various wire antennas - HI. 73 Marc, W4MPS

This was an interesting build. I really want to see it compare to your EFHW antenna. Thanks for sharing.

40m delta loop takes names. I used one for FD. Over 200 CW contacts. Worked great on 20m, 15m, and 10m using N8SAB 4:1 balun. Hung it from a 12m Spiderbeam pole. Love loops. Lots of vids on my channel.

Great video. I've been thinking of making a delta loop to try sometime.

Did anyone tell you to run a hole saw in reverse to cut plastic? Start normally, but after the drill starts, reverse the drill.

Plus, full wave loop antennas are very quiet. Try it up horizontally too.

I love to experiment with antennas as well, the best part of the hobby. I wonder if you could use a tree as your mast? You may be able to estimate the height if a branch and get the same results.

I'm sure a tree would work. However, I wanted to use a mast for this in case I'm at a park that doesn't allow things to be put in trees

A small zip tie might keep that tip from falling into the base tube. Also have you checked out the St. Louis Vertical made with a South Bend 20 fishing pole? And a couple SB 20 poles could be used for supports for the far corners of the loop with your configuration. Polarity would be more horizontal, but with your 31 foot pole and two 20 footers, you might get a nice take off angle for DX. 73, KB0MEE.

Good tip on the zip tie...I'll look into the sb20

I bet the swr is messed up due to the legs almost touching. I know my inverted V is very touchy with the angle of the wires. I ran a 20 meter delta loop at the house for a while. Worked well, but I had way to many wires up and it was a cluster logistical nightmare to service them. To work on one I had to move several.

Yes, being close to the ground is not helping the tuning

I have been wanting to do a delta loop. This is an interesting setup and kind of close to what I had done with a 9:1 unun. I used 60 something ft radiator and a 33ft radial (counterpoise). I used an electric fence post for the the feedline end (3ft) and for the counterpoise. (So two fence posts). Then I ran the radiator up into a tree. Think of it as a "V" sitting on it's side. Had great success with that setup (probably 8 to 10,000 POTA contacts. Your setup is kind of like mine but would be resonant which I like. Was it quieter by chance? Please try this setup with "Wspr" test with it and see what directionality it has. Robert KD4YDC

If your missing tools, tip your boy upside down and shake. It may be in his pockets. My father used to find his tools everywhere. He even found a hammer,, when mowing the lawn. I may or may not have been involved with the issue.

@@SevenFortyOne The ZEP is a great antenna. I had a friend in my club that built several for our members. I think it was 84 feet with 2 counterpoise. 1 @ 6 feet and 1 @ 20. Also, the delta loop should have a lower noise floor. But, you probably know this. Great video!!!

Great build! I wouldn't worry too much about reports at the moment - in the UK conditions on 40m have been dire over the last week - Looking at Ionosonde data it has been all over the place so while we have so many storms I'd enjoy the sun and try a little later in the autumn :) de M0SNR
