I first went to Germany 12 years ago, and was blown away - a country which does beer, food, public transport and everything right. I have to say, something of a damascene moment. I went back, and went back, and now I'm learning German and have a tattoo of the Bamberg Cathedral Green Man. When I go back now, I think of it as going home. I cheered for you through the last world cup, and went mental when you/we won. Can't wait to be home again! Danke shön!

Since 1991 this third stanza ONLY is the German National Anthem. Already before (between 1949 an 1991) only this third stanza had been sung (at official events). First stanza is very nationalist, second sounds today a little cheesy ...

I would say it is a tie between the anthems of the Austro-Hungarian/German Empires and the Imperial Russian Empire before WWI.
All were great.
Germany is the Fatherland and Russia is the Motherland!

I cannot understand how the human soul cannot be uplifted by this beautiful National Hymn. Instead, we read so many obscene comments from ignorant people. You dont have to be German to admire this National Hymn and the enormous accomplishments of its folk. After all the devastation of two World Wars, to once again rise to the top and be the saviour of Europe, is a glowing testament to the hard work, intelligence, stamina and durchsetztungkraft of its people. And I am not even German.

Natürlich ist die Deutsche Nationalhymne bezüglich ihrer drei Strophen schon eine sehr schöne Hymne, aber natürlich kommen mir auch Zweifel auf,ob eine vollständige durch ihre drei Strophen nun einmal geschriebenen und komponierte Hymne zu öffentlichen Anlässen wirklich der richtige Weg sei? Durch die Nationalsozialisten wurde diese Hymne auch in Verruf gebracht. Deutschland Deutschland über alles.... war mit Sicherheit zu der damaligen Zeit als sie geschrieben und musikalisch zur Hymne ernannt wurde ein anderer Aspekt und Sichtweise als heute. Natürlich waren die deutschen Grenzen zur damaligen Zeit anders und selbstverständlich gibt es auch noch genügend Deutsche die das heutige Deutschland in den Grenzen und Gebieten von damals sehen...! Ich bin aber auch der Ansicht das dieses tiefe und alte Wunden derer Nationen zufügen könnte, die sehr viel Schmerz, Trauer und Leid durch die damalige deutsche Besatzung etc zugefügt hatten. Das Lied der Deutschen und speziell die dritte Strophe ist nun einmal in unserem Grundgesetz verankert und offiziell zur einzigen Hymne ernannt worden und zwar nur die dritte Strophe um alte Wunden, Leid und Trauer in der Welt ruhen zu lassen. 🙏🇩🇪🇩🇪🇩🇪🙏
