  • Leather Craft - How to Buckstitch A Leather Belt - Leathercraft Secrets. Buckstitching tools lacing fid and saddle makers awls work great for all sizes of buckstitch. Tandy Leather as well as Weaver Leather have leather lacing fids listed in their catalogs that should work just fine for buckstitching. The old buckstitching awl that I am using in this RUclips instructional video has been around for a long time and was given to me by my Dad a tool he used for buckstitching for many years himself. The buckstitch lace I use here is Kangaroo leather that is thin and very strong and will lay down flat once it has been light tapped with a hammer. A tip here is that you can actually cut the kangaroo lace down the center and make a smaller lace for smaller leathercraft projects such as the leather knife sheath that you will see at the end of this video.

    I don’t comment on these things much, but I truly appreciate you taking time to share and inspire others. I especially liked your old videos with all the homemade tools. You can’t hold back a fella with a little skill and a lot of try. Metal work is truly the king of all trades.

    Hi Bruce great to see you in the shop working. I must say i still find it amusing that I come in out of the heat and end up watching a fella inside staying out of the cold. It was 42 celcius here yesterday and predicted to be hotter today maybe 43 or 109 fahrenheit what a world we live in. Thanks for the video always enjoy them.

    Thanks for the video, but 2 things I would have liked you to include: how you spliced the lace on the back and the flattening when done with the hammer.

    Good stuff, as usual. Looking at it and hearing you talk about the buckle brings to mind a couple of questions: Are you just doing this on the belt for decoration, or is the belt lined? And if you were to line a belt for some reason, would you trust a buckstitch and glue, or would you prefer either a running or a saddle stitch? Thank you, sir.

    • @cheaneysaddles
      @cheaneysaddles  6 лет назад +1

      This is just for decoration on a plain veg-Tan leather. You can line the belt and just buckstitch a lining in it and it will work just fine.

    I have good luck with using a lighter to dry out and harden the tip of my lace to keep it from getting fuzzy and floppy. Just a second or so of indirect heat
