    Tekken 8 charges $70 for the base game, $100 to $300 for more expensive editions, plus charges for upcoming DLC characters via season pass, plus added an in-game shop post launch, plus snuck in a surprise battle pass recently. A really great fighting game is getting marred by absurd monetization inclusions that are getting out of hand.

    • @sonicmania9993
      @sonicmania9993 2 месяца назад +10

      I'm sorry your review got banned, which seems like a dumb situation.
      But just in case you're interested: the reason to buy the fighting game day 1 is because that first year is the most fun time for serious players to play the game online & with friends in local co-op. We're all learning our moves/combos and the flow and tactics of the game, developing a main and a few alts -- and all the good players are at basically the same place. It's a race to get better, and I'd even say it's fun to get beat in a fight honestly by someone who has gotten better more quickly than I. Kudos to that guy, y'know?
      If you wait until the release of that complete edition including DLC (after 1-3 years), try to go in and learn those things and compete against highly-ranked players. You will get utterly trashed by those guys who have been having fun and getting stronger since Day 1.
      For casual players, buying the complete edition (after 1-3 years) is the best way to go if they are patient. Some buy both versions to support the fighting game market.
      I personally love this first year online -- so I'm all in day 1 and buy the character DLC as it comes out (season passes, usually). Of course, I would never consider battle passes (which is a trash move), and I learned the hard way in the past to just wait on the a la carte costume purchases. I play with basic costumes for the first few years, and then buy the complete edition when it's eventually on sale for $20 (for archival reasons, and to have some fun going back and playing with all the cool alternative outfits).

    The industry has just gotten so much more cynical and exploitative than it was when I was a kid, and it was already plenty cynical and exploitative back then. I don't want to worry about my son draining the bank account in a few years on lootboxes and shit. Saying game prices haven’t raised is not only categorically false but completely delusional.
    Not only, have games gone from 70$ in the start of the X1/PS4 era to now 90$ (in some cases 95$ CAD) for the base version, but they’ve also added so many avenues for revenue, it’s rare you can even get the whole experience from a game even buying the “season pass”.

      New games for 4th gen consoles sold for $50-$90. Inflation adjusted that's $120-$220 today. That's what people are talking about when they say games haven't gone up in price over the years, it's far from delusional.
      Harada specifically mentioned the 90's which is why I chose 4th gen consoles to compare. If you want to compare with 8th gen consoles $60 in 2013 is worth about $80 today. "Season passes" were definitely already a thing back in 2013 by the way.

      The main reason it’s more expensive is the executives taking in even more money. There’s a lot of this which could be maintained at a lower cost if the CEOs of studios like Activision Blizzard weren’t taking in tens of millions of dollars per year. If they were willing to take a lower salary (like what Nintendo’s CEO does), the games could be less expensive to make and subsequently less expensive for the consumer.

    I love tekken, I started as kid and when tekken tag 2 came out, it just brought me full in when I was able to play coop with my brother online. We were hyped for tekken 7, but a big problem I had was, that our main characters from Tekken Tag were not included in the base game. So we were waiting for the battle pass announcements. And we got them.. but.. they had a price tag.
    Not even that, the battle pass is buying the mystery box. In the battle pass there is a character that we might like, bought the pass.. and then they took a massive shit into the battle pass with characters we never even touched, but we payed beforehand to get the characters we want.
    Now in tekken 8, they pretty much sell you the battle pass in form of the deluxe edition, so already more bloat than you want with a bigger pricetag. And the first character they announce, what felt like days after release, is eddy gordo as payed DLC. A character that was in every game since tekken 3 is now sold shortly after you payed 70$ for the base game. And the character is already more expensive than the solo purchases in tekken 7. At least in 7 I felt like spending a few more bucks for the battle pass to get every character, but now they expect me to pay 110 Euro just to get the content that they are holding back. Like EDDY who was probably already fully ready for release months ago and would be able to release with the main roaster, but they have to sell you something...
    Tekken 7 monitization also effectively made us stop playing. We bought the game on PS4, because our PCs were just too bad at the time. Because of space issues we would always need to setup the PS4 to play, adding up the loading time, it would take so long sometimes, that we didn't feel like playing again. I even bought the season passes of our two Tekken Tag Main characters but ended up never really playing them actively. But... we also never played it on PC, simply for the reason that it would cost us over 100€ again just to be able to use the same characters.
    ..... And also.. the "increased development cost" is not due to increased delevopment, buta huge portion that increased is increased marketing etc. and those fat ass that don't even know what game they work on currently, but still get 5-6 digits a month for being a part of it somehow. Missmanaging fonds is not an increase cost that the consumer should pay, its your own fault.

    I miss rentals, I never had any issues with wasting money on crap games before they required the internet since I usually had rented them first to make sure they were worth it
