And they didn't get to take it during pregnancy too because doctors don't allow that, so the baby was born safe. But I'd still say that the responsible thing to do would have been to abort the fetus and not make the same mistake again cuz this kid, even though born healthy, will have tons of confusion while growing up now

The testosterone in itself is something that often prevents trans men that still have a functional uterus from getting pregnant in the first place, and in the beginning the pregnant person said they had to get off the testosterone too. So there were clearly many attempts involved, therefore there's no way it was an accident.

If their partner is a biological male who got them pregnant, then doesn't that mean they were having vaginal intercourse as a "man?" Why wasn't that also "confusing?" How could either of them then be so surprised that they got pregnant under those circumstances? And if their partner is a biological female, where did the sperm "accidentally" come from?

There are trans people who don't get bottom surgery for different reasons and since chances of getting pregnant after puberty blockers and cross sex hormones are low (like compared to many new moms who think breastfeeding prevents a pregnancy) they might find out that it's not the case or their choice of contraception didn't work. But living with gender dysphoria doesn't meant they have to limit the ways to explore intimacy with a partner.

@@juliawacker While you're coming from the right place, you are a little mistaken. I had to double-check to ensure I wasn't. From Planned Parenthood:
"When you exclusively breastfeed - meaning you nurse at least every 4 hours during the day and every 6 hours at night, and feed your baby only breast milk - your body naturally stops ovulating. You can't get pregnant if you don't ovulate. No ovulation means you won't have your period, either."
So, you're kind of right if the mom is bottle-feeding/both, but yeah. I was told if I wanted to try again and 'keep them close' I would have to start weaning baby off the breast. This works up to about 6months, as far as I was told, after that you gotta get back on the pill if you want to avoid any 'accidents'.

So I asked. "What do you prefer to be called? I have actually never cared for a transgender patient before, so I'm not sure what is best".
They were LIVID with me. Why did I not know that HE was DAD?! And HE needed help getting baby to latch. I was so embarrassed. I then had to repeatedly explain why breastfeeding would probably not be possible, due to THE COMPLETE REMOVAL OF YOUR BREAST TISSUE. Did the surgeon discuss this? No. Of course not. The patient was unhappy with care provided by me(ie honesty) and I did not get reassigned them the next shift. Thank God bc that was a long 12 hours.

I would rather be worried about potential risks and repercussions to the fetus - because high levels of male hormones can be extremely damaging to its proper development. It isn't a miracle, it's a very unethical experiment. And yea, kinda impossible to have dysphoria and be okay with the idea of pregnancy and delivery. I'm not trans - only asexual but the very thought of getting pregnant grosses me out beyond any imagination

It must be a tough decision however to have a hysterectomy, over ruling your biological need to procreate so you can 'get your head straight' so to speak.

Thats not only ignorant but dangerous for the fetus. The hormones a woman's body produces when she's pregnant ≠ artificial hormones made to resemble the hormones of a man. The first is produced naturally to benefit the developing embryo and its crucial to the health of the baby while the second is artificial hormones inserted into the body of a woman to trick her body into acting similarly to that of a man. I really hope she stops taking hormones that resemble the ones men produce while she's pregnant because it's not going to end up well with the baby's health (because men don't get pregnant therefore the hormones their body produces aren't suitable for a developing baby). Also women and men have huge differences when it comes to testosterone percentages. Doctors agree that a normal reading for men falls between 300 to 1,000 nanograms per deciliter (ng/dL). Now a normal reading for women falls between 10 to 95 nanograms per deciliter (ng/dL). That's a difference from minimum (more than) 3 times more to maximum 100 times more testosterone. If a woman's testosterone levels are near that of a man's then she's seriously sick and vise versa. As for pregnant women normal levels during pregnancy are in the 50 to 120 ng/dL (1.7 to 4.2 nmol/L) range which means that men have at minimum more than twice as much testosterone than pregnant women. Also high levels of testosterone are harmful to the fetus. Research has shown that high levels of testosterone can cause recurrent miscarriages. Testosterone has teratogenic effects, it makes the risk of abnormal urogenital development in a fetus to skyrocket among other abnormalities. Therefore, testosterone should not be used while attempting conception or during pregnancy. All health care sites recommend that the mother should stop taking testosterone if she cares about the health of her baby. Here are some quotes from health care sites: "Testosterone is actually teratogenic (meaning it can cause birth defects) to a fetus. If you are taking testosterone and think you may be pregnant, speak to your healthcare practitioner as soon as possible. If you are pregnant, avoid starting testosterone, as it will harm the developing fetus", "It is possible to get pregnant if you’re taking testosterone, but it's not recommended. This is because taking testosterone in pregnancy may affect the baby's development.Taking testosterone in pregnancy is not recommended." The quotes are from nih. gov and healthline. com

I have the same thoughts on the topic. As a person with a naturally high level of testosterone, it would be really hard and risky for me to get pregnant. Though I'm on the lower level of the male norm, it's still a bad idea to have a child. Gynecologists offered me hormonal therapy quite a few times but I'm not interested because pregnancy isn't on my lifelong to do list. I can only imagine how much harm may be done to those unlucky babies due to their mothers being delusional

    • @smolcutie1773

@@codename495Hormone therapy - including testosterone - isn’t birth control. This means that trans men can get pregnant even if they’re on testosterone and even if they don’t have their period. Pregnancy is possible as long as you have a uterus and ovaries, and are ovulating. It’s also possible to ovulate even if you don’t have a period. Testosterone blocks ovulation if taken regularly, but it does not completely make it disappear. The bottom line is testosterone may impact your ability to get pregnant, but it’s not birth control.

Actually, they had to back off the testosterone for a while because of other issues. So they partially detransitioned. Same story with transmen who intentionally get pregnant. They have to partially detransition (and in their case hope they get lucky). They're biological women.

I remember probably over 10 years ago, I heard for the first time about a trans man getting pregnant. However, he did it because he was married and his wife coudn't make the in vitro work on her, so in order to have a child they decided to try using his body since he only had top surgery, and as far as I know it worked (he was heavily pregnant at the time, probably 7/8 months).
He didn't do to prove a point, he did it because he wanted a family and was willing to sacrifice his body and metal health for it, it was for love and no politics were involved.
    This? I'm not so sure....

If pregnant women are worried about their mental health regardless of what they identify as, a trip to their local doctor's wouldn't go a miss or in that person's case, an appointment with the psychiatrist they had to see before they could medically transition.

I don't want to be horrible, but why would there be mental health support for a trans man being pregnant? It's not exactly common, mental health services in the UK barely understand autism never mind a situation of your own making. And as someone who's experienced how you're treated while pregnant, it's sad but they don't have time to ask if everyone's okay. It should be part of it but the NHS is stretched enough without "men" having babies
