Hello, I am trying to create blends of diesel and HVO in order to check on emissions. I have seen your short video explaining how to create .dat files however when I select ''fuel file'' , the ''+'' icon of adding a new fuel file is not appearing at all next to the ''folder'' sign. I have tried every alternative but nothing seems to work. I am currently using 2023.1 version.

hey Ad. I want to simulate specific fuel called DIMETHYL ETHER (DME) in ricardo wave software. But I can not found a fuel file for this particular fuel. Can I create .fue file foe DME?
Yes you can. It is a bit more involved though. You need to create a .dat file first. Have a look here:

Hi there! 👋🏻 you will have to create the fuel files yourself. WAVE only has pure ethanol and pure gasoline. Let me know if you don’t come right.

I have not come across that one - is Ricardo WAVE installed on the computer that you are trying to create the fuel file?
Hi, do you have any tips on where to find .dat files for fuels that aren't built into wave by default?
Good question - the best way to create a .dat file that is not provided is to take an exisisting one and modify it. I wanted to create a .dat file for a specific biodiesel fuel, so I took the FAME.dat file and changed some properties of the fuel in the .dat file so that it is more representative of my biodiesel fuel. This obviously can only be done if you have information about your fuel's properties.
Hi Adriaan. While I am trying to make E20 blend fuel, the whole thing went good but except in the end of command prompt its showing "unable to open file. /E20. Fue for writing ". Can you tell me the possible reasons I went wrong??
That is an odd error. Have you tried deleting the .fue file and trying again? It seems like it wants to open an existing file?

@@bharatdogra1645 Glad you found it useful. Unfortunately WAVE does not provide the WPO dat file with the program. You will have to create your own dat file.
@@AdriaanVanNiekerk The Blends constituents of WPO are also not available in the Ricardo fuel directory. Can you please provide guidance for any file with constituents other than available in the directory?
Hello sir i have a doubt. i wanted to mix methanol with hydrogen try different compostion for example 10% hydrogen with 90% methanol.So should i try the values in cylinder option that is intial fluid composition option or in the injector.
Hi Subramanian. I think you will need to create a fuel blend with the percentage components that you want to look at between methanol and hydrogen. The two options you mention can only be used to simulate a mixture between clean air, burned air, burned fuel and injected fuel.

Yes you can - there are some instances where you can create one fuel file where you have hydrogen (as a gas) and gasoline (as a liquid). This file keeps the two components seperate, but you can use it in your model. It is a bit difficult to explain, but I am planning on making a video on how to simulate a dual fuel using gasoline and hydrogen 👍
I just wanted to ask you a once again doubt is it ok to blend hydrogen with a methanol in the similar way. Does gas and liquid fuel mixing together and passing it through one injector is practically possible?? thank you
No I don’t think it is practically possible. I think a better way would be to inject the hydrogen through port injection and the methanol through direct injection.

Hi Atul. Unfortunately I have not tried running an engine with hydrogen. None of the examples that Ricardo WAVE provides give any guidance unfortunately. I suggest you go have a look at examples where CNG is used? As both CNG and Hydrogen is injected as a gas? So hopefully there will be some similarities in the model set-up

But I don't have fuel file of diesel n hydrogen.
And also I'm not getting any source whre I can find the fuel files .
@@AtulKumarBME You will have to create the fuel file yourself. It is a bit different when you simulate duel fuel scenarios (two seperate fuels going into the same engine). In the dual fuel tutorial they show you how to create the fuel file. It might be that the fuel file that you are using is causing your error.
@@AdriaanVanNiekerk Sir, I'm not able to create a fuel file of hydrogen with diesel. And if I try to inject hydrogen fuel from tag list it shows the problem above mentioned in first comment .

I don’t think that is possible. If it is a .fue file supplied with WAVE, then the .dat file will be available as well.
Is this your situation or did you get a .fue file from somewhere else?

@@varunmkashyap6224 Alright - then you should have access to the dat files you used to create the biodiesel blend
@@AdriaanVanNiekerk yes I do. I used diesel and FAME to create B10 and B80 blend. I’m running a dual fuel operation with biodiesel+syngas. To load both these fuel files on model properties I need to create the biodiesel_syngas file using the green plus button. For this, I need the biodiesel file to be in .dat. I tried altering properties of FAME to match my requirement but it’s so tough to find all the fuel properties..there are so many parameters 😓
