Benny Bailey had some SERIOUS chops-great lead & jazz playing...looks like he's using a Conn 60B trumpet and his custom Jet-Tone MPC...I wish more people knew about Benny...extremely underrated player
I had the good fortune of working and hanging with Benny in the 80's in Europe. He could do it all! Jazz and lead with a great double C. Later he even sang! On one gig we did, we had a lot of time off while sitting on the bandstand during rehearsals, so we started making paper airplanes and flying them on to the stage from the riser. Lots of laughs. He was a beautiful cat and an inspiring player to sit next to.
Your Grandpa was a great person . I worked with him in Germany with Conexcion latina . He was always laughing and enjoyed the talent that God gave him we nicknamed him the dragon cause his solos would always smoke . It was a honor to work by him.
If you can hear me Ben I have a question: did you prepare mentally this solo - or did it just flow? The structure, melody, the phrases - one would think you had sheet music from which you were were playing! One of the greatest solos I have heard, and I am 73 - having heard this the first time when I was 4 in India. Thank you ben

Greg: how lucky you are! Someday, people will realize what a giant of jazz Benny was. Right up there with the best of them.

The way Benny plays, sometimes sweet, sometimes angry - I think it just flows!
