It was the best that I could have in early teenage days. As I became more and more interested in playing drums , Kenny Clarke was my hero. And best of all , I could see them live in1968 In Cologne/ Tanzbrunnen, when I was 15 ... and what a drumsolo /duet of both drummers. Q&A and to the end fullspeed synchronous for a longer while and then alltogether. So amazing ...

Great band. Their "All Smiles" LP is an all time favorite of mine.

    Clark Boland Orchestraの特徴は、ツインドラムと3テナーですが、何よりもアレンジが素晴らしい。

Should have discovered this earlier ! It's still a great discovery. These are my childhood heroes ! Griffin, Benny Bailey, Kenny Clarke and especially -in great shape- vibist Fats Sadi, who lived 3 km from where I live. Leader Boland is also a Belgian, so the Belgian connection is not to be missed. Fantastic !

Glorious outfit. But can't see either Shake Kean or Dusko Goykovich playing trumpet, although can see Scotland's Jimmy Deuchar! Always an exciting band whoever was playing, seemingly always at the top of their game. Much missed.

      Right--Menza joined Rich in 1968.

    • @luclioen6392

Menza played with Kurt Edelhagen and later on directed the WDR Big Band for a short while. He left a tenor sax in Europe and some years ago returned to Germany to pick it up. He gigged with a local big band in Belgium then and still played very nice.

I know it’s crazy! You go to a concert and it’s just one piece after another, each one just chockablock with what? Notes!
      What’s up with that?
