- This had to be done after any work has been done to the sunroof or the sun shade systems. These systems are not part of the vehicles network and will not set any codes if there is an issue.

These two videos are great; Ford need to acknowledge the water leak issue...which is causing these motor problems. CLEARLY there is a problem...a big problem, and they are doing zero to help customers. @ford should be held accountable.

Thanks Jacob! I have a 2011 explorer. The calibration didn’t work the first time, but on the second press of the tilt I just held it there and after about 15-20 seconds the sunroof started opening then closed. All one touch features are working now. Great video. Keep up the good work!
Replaced both motors, switch, and changed fuse still won’t work. Any ideas??
Great videos. Have a 2014 explorer and have never been able to initialize the auto functions/tilt. The motor installed in this video, was it factory or an aftermarket? I had the dealership change the motor twice and the switches twice, auto open/manual close/no tilt. Haven't bit the bullet to buy a Ford motor for the sunroof glass yet. I also have the intelligent access/push button start. Have tried the initialization process a dozen times to no avail at this point. Factory shade motor/aftermarket glass motor.
I honestly can't remember, if I have a chance to find the history invoice on it I'll check.
The motors are a separate system where the control for them is control by their own internal boards. So as long as fuses are good and the relay for them is working they both should move. There is a fuse in the left dash and one in the box underhood
I have a 2016 sport and changed the sunroof motor using your video. Worked perfectly I’m now having issues with the sun shade it will only close about a 1/4 of the way and stop then open to about a 1/4 of the way on the moon roof then i hit the button and it will open all the way. Then same close but only 1/4 closed on sun roof? Any ideas?
Did the recalibration follow all the way through?

Hard to say over the air but if it works but doesn't close all the way either something is blocking it or making it hard to move so it thinks it's closed. Or it needs to be reinitialized.
Good afternoon friend, my Ford explorer got water because the sunrrof drains were blocked and only the fabric that would be the third button works and the others no longer work. it didn't get stuck or anything, it just stopped working. That you recommend me, since I went to Ford and they were not exact with their diagnosis. Please help me, greetings from Chile.
What happened with ford and there misdiagnosed,did they refund ur money
Greetings friend. Gain access to and remove the motors for the shade or glass that isn't moving and check them for water damage. They are electric motors controlled by circuit boards . If the drains get blocked the water will overflow and short out the boards. Then you must replace them. You cannot check them with a scanner as they are separate from the cars comm system.
Hello I have a problem with my 2014 Ford Explorer We had a storm the other night and the moon roof opened somehow but the shade was still shut needless to say there was water all over inside I don't know how it opened Why it opened but it's the first part of January and I need to get it shut I push the button back to get the shade to go back so that I can get the window parts checked but it wouldn't shut and it still won't shut and the screen it will move the shadel move back towards the back of the car but it won't come back forward to cover over the seats please I tried to do this thinking maybe with the storms somehow it it's something to it but it's not working any hope you can offer I would appreciate any help anybody could offer I would appreciate.
They seem to be getting moisture damage somehow. So if it happens in a storm it likely shorted out causing it to open and the motor is now likely burnt out. You'll likely need to replace it to fix the issue. You'll at least need to remove the motor to manually close it.

Tried it after replacing the motor. Before doing the initializing the sunroof opened and closed but now none of the buttons work no matter how many times I try to initialize
Make sure the motors didn't come unplugged, nothing is blocking the tracks, the fuse for them is not blown, and lastly if all looks well try to disconnect them for 10-15 minutes and retry. The motors are all on their own circuit. No other module talks to or controls them Just the power, ground, and the switches, that's all. Fuse 8 in the fuse box under the hood is for them 20amp
Also If you try to recalibrate it for one touch features make sure your hold the button until it stops moving.
Initialized my 2016 and it fully tilted the sunroof and quit. Any idea? Can’t get it closed.

That's the diagram. Check those fuses first
Hello- I have same model year and option. I DIDNT do the initialization to sunroof motor replacement. Thought it was plug and play. It did work right off the bat without initialization but after several run through open/close function it now stop working and now the shade only moves like 2 or so inches. Any advise on how to RE- RE-program after a screw up?
It only moves 2 inches or it only moves 2 inches at a time? The initialization is simply for the auto function to work properly, it shouldn't hurt anything if you don't do it
Jacob Mercer; the sunroof won’t operate now. The shade will only operate but moves about 2inches either direction. So now the shade operation out of wack from the sunroof motor install.
