I like the way Oluv is analysing the speakers, and also how he normally tries to tune everything possibly peak free and relatively neutral, with maybe a bit of spice in bass. However I also have a bit different taste than he, and worse ears especially in the higher range. I'm using one of the Earfun buds tuned by him, and refined the tuning according to his advice with an app. I recommend his knowledge and expertise to everybody, because I use his EQ setting as a starting point, and it is great, but I personally always add my own taste to it, and I correct it according to the abilities and taste of my ears. So I think Oluv is doing a great job, and he is one of the best, but there's no problem at all with having our own taste. If the starting point is a nicely tuned hardware which you can adjust to your own taste, then that's a win. This is why an audio product without the ability to change the EQ, is not an option for me, even if it is 'perfectly' tuned by someone like Oluv. Anyways, the problem is the industry which wants to sell their mostly average devices as some super high-end top sound quality products. And the other problem is the so-called Hi-Fi community, which is willing to give enormous money for products which are many times barely better or even worse as their ten times cheaper (often chinese) counterparts. What I very much like in Alan's reviews, that whilst he's always telling the objective judgement, at the same time honestly his own opinion too, never hiding the fact that it is more or less biased (e.g. because he likes the deep bass). He is completely aware what the neutral sound is alike, what the difference between his own taste and the neutral sound is, so he can still give us a very personal, but overall perfectly describing review. We need the people like both you and Oluv. Thank you for creating all these reviews for us!
To say you are unique and great sometimes I think it's an understatement. A thousand thanks for bringing back the sound effects of the tweeters, woofers and above all thanks for listening to me in those glorious seconds from 40:44 😁🥂 Apart from feeling really grateful, I have to say again that I think you are the only one who does these reviews so conscientiously. You show us that sound is your passion and that you really enjoy bluetooth speakers. You know that I continue to enjoy my two Motion Booms in a "glorious" stereo TWS that makes it possible not only to have them each in a corner of the room but also each in a different room, as their connection is great and they are really sensational also working together. I don't know if I ever told you that I have a Technics modular sound system that I bought at an electronics show back in 1991. It is now 32 years old and is well known among those of us who like good sound, with its three-way speaker boxes with that old hole/bass reflex. Well, I can assure you that I have my two Motion Booms on top of these two baffles and I use them more than those of the same sound system. They give me such a musical pleasure and also with an immediacy, functionality and mobility that I can't get from those of the great Technics modular equipment. For me, the day the Motion Booms were launched on the market marked a before and after in what we thought small speakers could do, defying even physics itself due to the deep bass they are capable of emitting while still having very fine treble without the need for dedicated tweeters like those of the Motion Plus bot... of course, we are talking about... titanium drivers! ( . )( . ) 😁 Thanks a lot again for your great videos, for being the way you are and sharing both with all of us. Big hug, my friend. Best wishes.
The one all the trolls and the fans have been waiting for!! Love your work Al! Amazing review, the RUclips algorithm needs to get this man some more subscribers
Great video review again, Alan 👍🏼. I personally think I will stick with my Soundcore Motion + , currently running 45.49 firmware considering it has the Soundcore app functionality where I am using the Alan Ross equaliser setting. Perfect ❤ Super helpful reviews always
@@NamTran-xc2ip sure there is, lots of different sounding speakers as well as different sizes at same price. if they sounded identical then thats another matter.
@@alanrossreviews yes u r right but the motion+ and uboom l are similar sizes, pick one you prefer, i dont see the point of owning both as a general consumer
This is, as always, high quality content, measurements, objective opinion, knowledge, comparisons with really good alternatives, honesty, and over all, hard work. 👏👏👏 I personally think that, since every ear is different, a speaker with custom eq is better, and mostly if the hardware is good, like m+. Mine has your eq settings, but of course modified to my taste with less upper bass and a little tweak in the highs. Uboom L is a good option, i like everything about its tunning but the highs.. treble is too much for my ears, a custom eq would easily fix it, but the option is not there (even though Earfun has a custom eq in other products). So, i stick to my m+, and if i need to use it outdoors, i just pick my motion boom 🤷♂😂
Glad that I bought a new pillow holder for my phone so that I can comfortably watch your latest video.Well I must say That I really enjoy your channel.Great info plus some killer tunes.Stay cool mate.👍😊✌
The whole Uboom L release and subsequent updates and the process to do it just seems so overly complicated. I understand that it is Earfun's product and they have the right to make the decision to make more firmware updates if they want but it's strange to me that they didn't include Oluv in the process when he was so front and center in the marketing. At the same time, I can only imagine what it must be like to work with Oluv. 🙄 If this speaker had app support at least the updates would be more straightforward. Ah well, thank you again for all of your testing. Thank you for another great one, Alan! 😁👍👏
yup! its like an irresistible force hitting an immovable object 😁 i think its also to do with this actually being more than just those two parties involved. the firmware and speaker being a third companies responsibility.
I've been busy lately and haven't been commenting much, but just want to say I still watch with delight all of your videos Alan. You've knocked it out of the park again all while staying classy, great job!!
A very interesting comparison. Thanks Alan. From my POV, it really comes down to which is the best speaker between the Earfun Uboom L and the Soundcore Motion Plus. The Maxsound plus is outclassed in this review, the Motion Boom is a much larger speaker (size is a major deciding factor for me when choosing a BT speaker, a much bigger factor than cost), and Stockwell 2 seemed out of place in this comparison, with its different form factor, price and capabilities. Maybe the Mifa Wildrod (with the latest firmware) would have been a better contender in this match. At lower levels, the Uboom Land the Motion Plus sounded fairly close to each other. Close enough that, if there wasn't any video accompanying the music clips, I probably would not have been able to be 100% successful in identifying which speaker was playing. At that point my decision would be down to features, and the Uboom L is IP67 rated and looks like it would take physical abuse a bit better than the Motion Plus. I have a pretty good idea of which of those two speakers would survive a drop from a table with little damage, or have less scuff marks or grille damage after a year or two of heavy use, including being carried around in a travel bag containing other stuff. There's also the annoying thing that while the Uboom L sounds decent out of the box (well, after you apply the firmware update, if needed), you have to use an app with special EQ to get the best out of the Motion Plus - which means that you have to load the app on every device you want to connect to it. Oh, btw, the Uboom L is supposed to be light enough to float when placed in water - I think that was missing from one of your summary charts. So, I'd give the win to the Uboom L. But of course, YMMV... On bass reproduction, IMO the choices for the bass response difference for the Uboom L between indoor and outdoor mode seem a bit strange. I would have thought that for outdoor mode it would have been better to boost the midbass a bit compared to the indoor mode. In any case, if I want more bass, the EQ on my Android phone is always available... :-). Finally (yes, long diatribe, I know), the fact that these small speakers can produce anything below 200 Hz, much less 100 Hz, at any decent volume is quite fascinating, considering the size of the drivers. There's only so much air a 55mm driver can move, and it's got to move 4 times as much air for every octave decrease in order to keep the output level the same. Not only that, but their output drops quite quickly below their resonant frequency, which tends to go up as driver size goes down. The 50 Hz-capable Mifa Wildbox's 70mm drivers have a resonant frequency of just under 100 Hz (ask me how I know this, LOL). The smaller drivers for the Uboom L likely have a higher resonance. Yes, PRs can extend the bass a bit and there's likely quite a bit of boost / EQ going on, but there's only so much you can get from such tiny drivers, particularly has they're being called upon to do full-range duty, not just bass.
"you have to use an app with special EQ to get the best out of the Motion Plus - which means that you have to load the app on every device you want to connect to it" this is not true once you set the EQ it will stay saved on the speaker ...you dont need that app anymore and you can connect it to whatever you want ...EQ will stay the same
i wouldnt dismiss the maxsound out of hand, its actually a tad clearer which may work for some and even the bass may be a little flatter and thus overall it may sound a bit more neutral and preferred but i certainly go for the fuller bass of the uboom l. i considered the wildrod but nobody asks about it and i had to decide which were more relevant. as mentioned, the eq does stick for the motion plus but yes being heavier and more solid (better build quality?) the uboom is more drop friendly. yup the outdoor/indoor thing confuses me. and simply going 3db louder (aside the bass bass/highs differences)? like we have a volume control for a reason right? yup i mentioned Hofmann's Iron Law earlier, they are battling physics and certainly the amount of bass being pulled from them these days is maybe the main improvement from years ago.
It's a bit more than the Iron Law involved. The Iron Law refers to the size of the enclosure, but the size of the driver is a factor here too. Results of some quick calculations suggest to me that the cone for one of the 55m drivers used in the UBoom L would need to move almost 6 times as far as the cone of a typical 5.25" woofer in a bookshelf speaker just to keep up, and there is no way it's going to be capable of that, except perhaps at midrange and up frequencies, where excursion requirements are a lot less. That they're able to produce bass at all without gross distortion is quite an achievement. I take back my suggestion of the Wildrod, as that's a mono speaker 🙂 Weight isn't necessarily an indication of quality, and it actually might be the reverse, e.g. neo-magnet drivers will weigh a lot less than their ceramic-magnet cousins, but they'll be just as good, if not better, than them and their lower weight can make the difference between the BT speaker floating or sinking, or surviving an accidental drop 🙂
That was as fair a comparison as could be. Top. Thanks! And yes, it comes down to personal taste in the end. I have 2 Vifa Helsinki, and they’re great (if you place them in a corner), but they sound a bit different. I do know which one you would prefer and which one would rather be Oluv’s cup of tea. Keep up the good work! 😊👍
This was great timing for me as I acquired a couple of Uboom Ls a few days ago (came with 0.43). I want to thank Earfun for the gift of a second speaker, I ordered one to Australia and shipping hadn't happened after a few weeks, it got sent after I contacted customer service. It was a pleasant surprise to discover I had a pair! Now trying to work out if I can get away without purchasing a Motion +. Thanks for doing the review.
I have both. I was one of the unfortunate ones to receive it with the first firmware and it was no good. After a lot of hassle I managed to update it. For low volume (and normal volume) I prefer the Uboom L. It could use an EQ to fine tune it but it sounds better to me than the Motion+ at low and normal volumes. Pretty sure at high volumes the stakes might be different but I have neighbors and I also use it to play background music when sitting outside. If you don't feel the need to spend money and space then don't purchase another speaker. I have a big box full of BT speakers. A couple serve their specific purpose but I could actually do with 2. The Sony XB20 for travelling and the Uboom L for normal listening.
@@Luke-san they might have been better off ditching the outdoor mode, making indoor mode an all round mode and adding a low volume mode which would be quite ground breaking these days.
@@Luke-san thanks for the input. The Uboom L is noticeably more powerful than a Boost or a Flip and everything sounds nice so I think it's mission accomplished. The downside of a large collection of anything (for me it's torches) is not getting to spend enough time with any particular product as there's many to rotate through before you get back to it.
Accept for the Soundcore the others are toys to me but I respect the Stockwell 2 for maintaining that mostly balanced signature. Well hopefully this video doesn't cause hell again. Great video 👍
well what i learned first time around is that the energy i wasted trying to exchange serious opinions on the fanboys was just that, wasted energy because they are not here to listen or exchange views. they enjoy the oluv vs alan thing so i wont feed them their daily gruel this time. 😁 when the first line starts, YOU DONT UNDERSTAND, i think we know who does and doesnt understand 🤭 nuff said!
man i dont even know what my plans are for today 😝 also i need to put a new pc together which is always fun so that will take time. tronsmart sen me a pair of the halos 100 so need to get that out of the way at some point.
Nice there sending you a pair of Halo 100s. Expect impressive sound but not great sound quality like the Motion boom or Wildbox but it does have the overall biggest bass compaired to them and has better low-volume listening levels. Lol I need to get a PC for future editing I ran my devices to its limits on mobile 😅
Great review, Alan. I didn't like the Uboom L initially but have since moved to a smaller house and quieter area (booooo!), so rarely listen to volumes above 50%, and this has a place for me (along with the Stockwell 2 which is superior but a bit off for some music). Maxsound Plus is clearer, as you say, but not enough volume steps at lower levels, and low vol listening is definitely not the Motion Plus's strong point - I've sold both of those now. I do wish the Uboom had deeper bass though, as I mostly listen to Rock/Metal. The Soundcore Boost or Boom have me covered there, but they are a bit boomy - must be the smaller rooms and wood floors! Considered the Bose Flex, as I prefer that form factor, and preferred it to the Uboom for metal, but it fared worse against the Boost so I can't justify it. Ultimately, there is no "end-game" Bluetooth speaker, it's a matter of taste and what you listen to and where.
Alan, There is the 0.50 firmware available, for those who are not satisfied with the bass performance. Oluv made a video saying that he had nothing to do with the tuning this time. It was earfun's decision to do this without even telling Oluv(even though Oluv wanted to make more tunings with more bass). This one is boomier. Also. I don't like my motion+'s anymore, after getting used to the minrigs. They simply sound cheap. Especially the treble and mids(3 Khz area). There are no details in the symbols. And also the minirig kills the motion+ at low levels with a way deeper bass and more treble definition. Also, great video. I have nothin to do after midnight other than enjoy your videos😘
So i've had 2 motion + speakers for 2 years now, i loved them for outdoor parties cause you could just turn up all the 3 bass faders on the eq and have a really boomy impressive(to the regular listener) sound gets loud as fuck, but i will usually listen to them at lower volumes and thats when they are kinda annoying and don't sound as good, after 2 years now one of them is kinda broken and the other one has very low battery capacity anymore, so i found that the earfun would be a good replacement cause i wanna use them more for background listening now, great video thanks!!
Glad i found your channel. I bought my motion+ and uboom L last week, and borrowed my co-worker stockwell (yeet). Your video teach me a lot about each of them, very very thank you. The thing I regret most is I haven't touch a motion boom yet. I hope you or someone can tell me more about motion boom, like: 1. Can it describe full high note vocal (like uboom L) (use Céline Dion song) ? 2. Does its treble sound more muddy than motion plus (use "hotel califonia" song, the half end part) ?
I already have a motion plus, but for listening at low volume I wonder if it is better to pass on this Uboom L and see a Marshall stockwell 2 since after hearing you say that it lacks deep bass and reading on other sites that for this reason they will be lost many parts of songs. It might be better to look at another option.
the problem is you could get two uboom ls for one stockwell 2 which changes the game. i like the s2 very much and use it was more than the uboom l but thats just me. my tastes differ. uboom depends on eq you use opf course, oluv vs earfun
I don't really understand why indoor has such a rapid decrease in relative bass after 60% but outdoor doesnt. But yeah some changes from older firmware. Its not that it doesn't have bass, it does. Its that outdoor favours mid bass and indoor has the upper bass. I would have merged the two.
@@alanrossreviews The only thing I can come up with is being able to use a higher volume without the neighbours complaining, since lower frequencies carry through walls more easily.
I use two of them in Partymode at low Volume indoor to get some background sound in two rooms. Perfect quality at low volume (FW 0.48 both). Also one of them I use in the bathroom, perfect because it has NOT this "boominess" to the bass which would be a nogo in the reverb chamber "bathroom" :)
@@alanrossreviews Thank you for your honesty :-) Would you tell me why that is? Do I understand you did listen to them? They seem quite performant from what I could find on other reviews.
Alan, thank you for all your very thorough reviews. It would be extremely helpful if you could prepare your ranking list. I mean, what speakers you recommend. Thank you again.
All this fuss about the Uboom L only makes me less and less reliant on online reviewers when making buyer decisions. Don't get me wrong Alan I think your work is valuable. The problem is with the audio community overall. It has been and will be a wild place. With so many opinions from every side one would think that they generally help define a personal view on a specific product. But in the audio world it is quite the contrary. In other sciences there are general tuths that one can't deny, or opposing views exist from which anyone can choose based on facts or opinions. In audio none of this is true (in my opinion). All these reviews about the Uboom L make it even harder to form an objective opinion. At this point even nearly a year after this product has launched, the only way to decide if it's a good buy or not is to buy one haha. I don't mean to reinvent the wheel with these mumblings, maybe these are well known facts about the audio world. It's very important to have healthy discussions. Btw I found my Motion plus to be too harsh and "metallic". It lacks warmth despite any eq setting although it is very very powerful and great for parties :). Looking forward to my Uboom L.
yes the motion plus not one for warm lovers, it simply does not have the bass for that. motion plus is about those tweeters and yes can be harsh but i find it tames with the right eq. not sure the uboom will be any warmer 🤷♂️ for me a warmer motion plus is the stockwell 2 with some eq on top.

Hi Alan, great video, as usual. Have you ever considered doing a comparison video for the latency via AUX on mobile speakers? I didn't realise how many of them still has very noticeable latency even using jack cable. I bought earfun uboom L recently to have fun with music apps on my iphone, but didn't check latency and it's unusable for that purpose
It’s strange that the price of the Marshall Stockwell ll is going up. Considering it’s been out for 4 years now. I got mine in the fall of 2019 for $130. I’m also guessing there won’t be a third iteration, which I was hoping there would be, because Marshall just came out with the Middleton. Which is kinda in the same lane as the Stockwell ll. Will you be reviewing the Marshall Middleton?
I don't think that the Stockwell 2 is in the same lane as the Middleton. The S2 is in the Bose Revolve market, whilst the Middleton is in the Bose Revolve+, JBL Extreme 3 market, hence the cost.
back to watching all these reviews from you Alan, because after a year of really mild use, my Motion Boom just won't turn on. I never ever used it while its charging, and for whatever reason, after yesterdays use and shutting it off, it won't go on anymore, and it won't charge, no matter what cable or outlet I try. Just died on me :/ so now I'm thinking about switch brands
Can you do a review of the Cleer speaker? There isn't much on it. Its competitors are the minirig mini, JBL flip 6 and Bose Soundflex. It is incredibly clear, great for vocals and classical music. It's not for bassheads but to my non audiophile ears it sounds quite balanced.
@@alanrossreviews yeah it's fine .. I also have the Oslo and it blew my Xtreme 2 away in terms of SQ and Loudness but I don't know if the Xtreme 4 would have some big improvements over the past 5 years because for me sizewise the Oslo is the main competitor of Xtreme if price is not important.
@Alan Ross Reviews late and long gone! Haven't been much around for the last like 3 months? 🤔 but that uboom boom no boom thing? Its not for me... too overhyped, i cant look at it without hating it
hum, hard choice now because one is discontinued and the other has app support. at the time probably maxsound plus, now uboom and choose your firmware.
I think Oluv had good intentions of creating an all around small speaker with balanced sound and a cheap price tag - the main problem with it however is the lack of simplicity. why is there a video mode button? why can't the speaker have low latency naturally like the bose flex? and the indoor/outdoor button? just add an app to find the sweet spot of your personal preference of sound. why does it happen from time to time that when i pair the speaker to my phone there's no sound from the speaker? why doesn't the speaker stay connected to my macbook? (have to pair it from scratch every time). just annoying.
@@alanrossreviews i saw a video of his when he clearly stated he wanted to offer an affordable speaker with great sound quality so people can save money instead of getting JBL, Bose etc.
He got pissed off from Expensive speakers and made a cheap great speaker. I bought Denon 250 at 24000 rs now this one is just at 6000 rs. I saved a lot while enjoying the good quality music 🎶
@@avinashnegi4u huh? He didn't make the speaker. He was asked by earfun to tune it. The decision for it to be cheap was earfuns. He didn't wake up one day with the idea to make a cheap speaker. Earfun offered him the chance.
Do u have plans on picking up any other Marshall speakers I recently picked up the acton 2 and I like it so far definitely not bang for the buck but it’s pretty decent overall
By the way, it seems Tribit has messed up the eq in their app for the Stormbox Micro 2. The 50 and 60 Hz bands are gone and there is a 80 Hz band instead. Can you check? Seems it's useleas now...
Very much appreciate your videos and your quick response. I have a Flex and the Uboom just arrived but I need to update the Firmware. Also thinking about the Motion+ after your reviews - very helpful 👍🏼
Earfun decided to do a firmware update nd tuned the uboom L without oluvs acknowledgment (0.50) tht adds bass can we get tht review? vs bose flex, charge 5 & flex 6 ?
Hello Mr Alan,am considering buying JBL charge 5 or motion detected plus tomorrow.which would you suggest sir? I love speakers with amazing sound quality.
I recently heard a bose sounddock at a friends, i had a bose home speaker 300 like 2 years back when all this mania of bluetooth speakers started and ive been through ike 10 speakers by now. but something about bose signature sound is so appealing. its like all the instruments are in the track are full sounding and have their own proper space in the track, i somehow miss it on my current set of speakers - beoplay a1 1st gen, google nest audio, motion boom. its a bit full on os5 but bass now sounds way more boosted than id prefer. life comes a full circle eh? ive been an anti bose fanboy but somehow i keep coming back. would you suggest any other speakers in small medium size that do that?
Bose like a lot of them have their own in-house signature sound. if you like it nothing wrong with that, bose known for warm sound decent bass, i like that too. what dont you like about the bass on the motion boom? that it sounds boosted? thats simply down to budget componets, you know Hofmann's Iron Law, if the box is small and thus drivers are small you need very efficient drivers and/or beefy amp. this all costs dollars 😁 its physics that means they all will need have a boosted bass but but better quality drivers and amp will help.
@@alanrossreviews motion boom is just for rough use. and im all for physics and costlier quality components. just that the bose sound is so full, its like the signature shows the distinct personality of every track even if theres no deep bass. every track has its energy and intent conveyed so nicely. or maybe thats what psychoacoustics do.. play with your mind :P

@@alanrossreviews It's not just in this song. In most songs with a lot of bass and highs, it's already starting to annoy me. Charge 3 had the same problem
they do seem to have quality control issues, yeah the charge 3 was a distortion fest but to be honest given what else was available at the time i was ok with it for beach use.
@@PavelGaborik as i said, a quick ab with a bright speaker like uboom l with oluv tuning will make neutral sound muddy. You should listen to the original track to hear neutral

Nice feat the uboom L against all the speakers included, won't mention spoilers kek, i think the uboom L is fine if we talk about what oluv wanted to achieve with it, imo it blow a flip 6 away in terms of sound, but already loses to a sony xb33 in terms of power, its just fine, its detail seems fine for me too, mids are great, smooth and treble quite detailed, bass is indeed not such game changer now, but i mean its fine for the price. I myself though still like my stockwell 2, which well while not for every case like workout were it falls really short for study the blumelin processing really stands out big in some tracks, also while sounding good. Do bear in mind i talk good about these speakers, when they show some quality, because despise what it is even if they are overprice, overhyped.. whatever, the amount of good ones out there(for whatever factor we may want) ain't that many, even from good companies, say Huawei, UE speakers.. etc, we just need variety, hence why my concern when i was worried about the whole situation from the beginning when the uboom L was launched.
@@alanrossreviews hhmm personaly i think 0.5 is not that well tuned.. introduces distorcion too but i think they are gonna continue without oluv anyways :p.
That comparison between the Motion Boom and the Uboom L was hilarious. The entire bassline was almost missing around 23:30 on the earfun and the Soundcore has to step in to save the day! Did you pick that track on purpose??? lol
@@alanrossreviews no, you are not wrong. Also most people would really hate a true flat listening experience. It's not all that fun for most music. You typically have to apply a house curve anyhow when mixing. Let's see someone mix a studio recording using a pair of Uboom L speakers. Should go real well...
I have the same version, mine sounded awful. I'm no audiophile but the all the vocals on the songs I tested sounded muffled/veiled, and didn't sound very clear, kinda sounded everything was jumbled together?
Do you mean the 0.4.5 version? If so, I share the same opinion. Sounds recessed to me. Bass is more than adequate for me. It’s the mids and highs. I’m curious how the 04.3.0 sounds in comparison. This hoop jumping for FW update and no official change log is souring me on this speaker.
Boost is smaller with more bass. Uboom has a more refined sound but you will need to pick older firmware. New firmware just gives more bass and less clarity.
yeah but i dont have the time as always, just have to prioritise. i need to clear this halo 100 thing that tronsmart sent me and then i want to spend time buildign a new pc and doing some proper gaming , well flight sim 🤣🤣 i have used them in stereo and it helps fill out the weak bass and seems to pair ok.

@@Lockpin78 Imo the clarity is excellent on these especially for vocal/non-electronic music, albeit the sound is quite directional due to lack of dedicated tweeter. Two of these in a stereo pair actually sound quite hi-fi with the right placement, I can get lost in the music quite easily. I do think the bass rolloff is a bit too much at higher volumes, but it is a small and inexpensive speaker.
its not that simple. one speaker may be within +-3db for 95% of the track but have a terrible peak and dip along it. another may be flat for 80% of teh response but not have any big dips or peaks and sound better. also response curves are only part of how it will sound in the real world.

Thank you for creating all these reviews for us!
best review of the day 👌😝
To say you are unique and great sometimes I think it's an understatement. A thousand thanks for bringing back the sound effects of the tweeters, woofers and above all thanks for listening to me in those glorious seconds from 40:44 😁🥂
Apart from feeling really grateful, I have to say again that I think you are the only one who does these reviews so conscientiously.
( . )( . ) 😁
Thanks a lot again for your great videos, for being the way you are and sharing both with all of us.
Big hug, my friend. Best wishes.

Great video review again, Alan 👍🏼. I personally think I will stick with my Soundcore Motion + , currently running 45.49 firmware considering it has the Soundcore app functionality where I am using the Alan Ross equaliser setting. Perfect ❤
Super helpful reviews always

Theres no point in buying a product in the same price category…
@@NamTran-xc2ip sure there is, lots of different sounding speakers as well as different sizes at same price. if they sounded identical then thats another matter.
@@alanrossreviews yes u r right but the motion+ and uboom l are similar sizes, pick one you prefer, i dont see the point of owning both as a general consumer
@@NamTran-xc2ip they sound different and form factor is different.
This is, as always, high quality content, measurements, objective opinion, knowledge, comparisons with really good alternatives, honesty, and over all, hard work. 👏👏👏
I personally think that, since every ear is different, a speaker with custom eq is better, and mostly if the hardware is good, like m+. So, i stick to my m+, and if i need to use it outdoors, i just pick my motion boom 🤷♂😂
i think the uboom works best for lower volumes listening. right, outdoor mode = motion boom 😂
Glad that I bought a new pillow holder for my phone so that I can comfortably watch your latest video.Well I must say That I really enjoy your channel.Great info plus some killer tunes.Stay cool mate.👍😊✌
thanks for watching again Ken! have you got the Uboom L?

Much appreciated 👍 👍 hope you are busy with good things 🤞
"you have to use an app with special EQ to get the best out of the Motion Plus - which means that you have to load the app on every device you want to connect to it"
this is not true once you set the EQ it will stay saved on the speaker ...you dont need that app anymore and you can connect it to whatever you want ...EQ will stay the same
i wouldnt dismiss the maxsound out of hand, its actually a tad clearer which may work for some and even the bass may be a little flatter and thus overall it may sound a bit more neutral and preferred but i certainly go for the fuller bass of the uboom l. i considered the wildrod but nobody asks about it and i had to decide which were more relevant. as mentioned, the eq does stick for the motion plus but yes being heavier and more solid (better build quality?) the uboom is more drop friendly. yup the outdoor/indoor thing confuses me. and simply going 3db louder (aside the bass bass/highs differences)? like we have a volume control for a reason right?
yup i mentioned Hofmann's Iron Law earlier, they are battling physics and certainly the amount of bass being pulled from them these days is maybe the main improvement from years ago.
I take back my suggestion of the Wildrod, as that's a mono speaker 🙂
Weight isn't necessarily an indication of quality, and it actually might be the reverse, e.g. neo-magnet drivers will weigh a lot less than their ceramic-magnet cousins, but they'll be just as good, if not better, than them and their lower weight can make the difference between the BT speaker floating or sinking, or surviving an accidental drop 🙂
I never felt my Helsinki justified its price. Sure its a nice speaker but the sound was too closed in. Maybe they are better now.
Are you able to connect the Helsinkis and play them in Stereo?
Uboom L just a bit more satisfying than others for my ear...
Clever comparisons as always, thank you Alan.

yep mr alan hellou, im agree the speaker like the motion + and motion boom still the king becuase theyre great and you can eq as you want..
Yup, the app changes everything 👍
This was great timing for me as I acquired a couple of Uboom Ls a few days ago (came with 0.43).
I want to thank Earfun for the gift of a second speaker, I ordered one to Australia and shipping hadn't happened after a few weeks, it got sent after I contacted customer service. It was a pleasant surprise to discover I had a pair!
Now trying to work out if I can get away without purchasing a Motion +.
Thanks for doing the review.
Yeah with a pair you dont really need a m+

Nice there sending you a pair of Halo 100s. Expect impressive sound but not great sound quality like the Motion boom or Wildbox but it does have the overall biggest bass compaired to them and has better low-volume listening levels. Lol I need to get a PC for future editing I ran my devices to its limits on mobile 😅
ohhh, yeah mobile aint good!
Ultimately, there is no "end-game" Bluetooth speaker, it's a matter of taste and what you listen to and where.
there will never be an end game,. its the nature of the beast! lets see how 0.50 boomy bass firmware works out.
@@alanrossreviews would love to see your verdict on that
@@alleycat2144its ass
0.50 is sh*t
@@mavinapril1303 I know. I don't like it at all. It makes the uboom L another one of those 20$ no name speakers. And also it's very boomy
@@folteaiustindaniel4099 4.8 is the best
@@mavinapril1303 yes
yup i mentioned the 0.50. i kinda find the mk3 on its own a bit off in the bass as i push it, have to use it with the sub then it sounds nice for me.
That hat suits you extremely well!
Its an austrian hat 😜
Glad i found your channel. I bought my motion+ and uboom L last week, and borrowed my co-worker stockwell (yeet). Your video teach me a lot about each of them, very very thank you. The thing I regret most is I haven't touch a motion boom yet. I hope you or someone can tell me more about motion boom, like:
1. Can it describe full high note vocal (like uboom L) (use Céline Dion song) ?
2. Does its treble sound more muddy than motion plus (use "hotel califonia" song, the half end part) ?
Motion boom is really about its deep bass to size and price ratio. Not the clearest but you can do wonders with the eq.
And again, very good review. Thanks alan
And again, ive no need for this speaker.

@@alanrossreviews alan, what do you think as comparison soundcore motion boost vs the earfun? Think they could be very close to each other?
ruclips.net/video/gHEAB0eT7NA/видео.html
@@alanrossreviews shame on me, ive forgotten this video, thanks!
Uboom L is made for clarity.
It's not a bass speaker.
But Outdoor mode was supposed to be bassy, but now they reduced bass.
Why?
Aka lack of deeper bass

Maybe but nobody seems to like it too much.

@@alanrossreviews Don't they? The few reviews I've seen like it VERY much. The jury is out for me.

Hello..If you had to choose one to hear more clearly, detailed or balanced at low volumes, which would be Uboom L or Maxsound plus?
hum, hard choice now because one is discontinued and the other has app support. at the time probably maxsound plus, now uboom and choose your firmware.
I also have the Bluetooth connection issues, really weird

@@arunsd9so.. How was the Uboom L?
Earfun decided to do a firmware update nd tuned the uboom L without oluvs acknowledgment (0.50) tht adds bass can we get tht review? vs bose flex, charge 5 & flex 6 ?
Flex 6? 🤔
@@alanrossreviews flip 6 sorry🤣
Hello Mr Alan,am considering buying JBL charge 5 or motion detected plus tomorrow.which would you suggest sir? I love speakers with amazing sound quality.
Charge 5 for bass, m+ for clarity
Thank you sir
@@alanrossreviews motion boom is just for rough use. and im all for physics and costlier quality components. just that the bose sound is so full, its like the signature shows the distinct personality of every track even if theres no deep bass. every track has its energy and intent conveyed so nicely. or maybe thats what psychoacoustics do.. play with your mind :P
sounds like you found your long term partner 😁😁
consult I have two earfun go 12w each, and I use them outdoors
I want to know if I will see a difference in power with the earfun uboon L?
my other option is motion plus
not sure i understand the question? the motion plus is rated at more if thats what you mean
NICE
😁😁
Can we get more mattress reviews?
im retired from the world of mattresses 😁
@@alanrossreviews Ah it's a shame, because genuine reviews are hard to come by, but I understand.
@@moislam591 worse than the speaker world, the more honest you are the harder it is to get a mattress for review. And when you do you find they downgrade it within a few weeks but dont tell anyone 😭
Sorry for double posting this, but have you considered reviewing Bogasing S8 Pro?
nope, wasnt even aware of it, is it decent?
That’s what I would like to know 😂 it’s got some decent reviews on amazon.
How is the clarity on low volume on this speaker vs the motion +? I care about how "clear" a speaker sounds and how clear vocals sound on low volume, idgaf about bass
Low volume is its strong point
@@alanrossreviews good to hear. Disappointed that Soundcore Boost is buggy at low volumes (in my experience) and must be turned up to avoid any pulsating volume.
Low volume ability is important!
for me its only on certain tracks and isnt an issue 95% of the time.
When are you reviewing the Devialet MANIA?
when i win the lottery
which firmware would you suggest overall, i keep seeing 4.8 is the same with 4.3 but with complete bug fixes
reddit seems to love 4.3
My Earfun UBOOM L has problem with intermodulation distortion and i hear it with song called Cartoon - I Remember You
i love that song 😛 its enough to not want to use it?
@@alanrossreviews It's not just in this song. In most songs with a lot of bass and highs, it's already starting to annoy me. Charge 3 had the same problem
they do seem to have quality control issues, yeah the charge 3 was a distortion fest but to be honest given what else was available at the time i was ok with it for beach use.
@@alanrossreviews in your recordings I also hear that uboom l has intermodulation distortion
That Marshall is $190? It sounds so muddy in this test to my ears....that's crazy.
what are you listening on? its going to sound muddy against bright speakers but its not muddy.
@@alanrossreviews Sannheiser 560S on this recording, it sounds noticeably muddier than the much cheaper U Boom.
@@PavelGaborik as i said, a quick ab with a bright speaker like uboom l with oluv tuning will make neutral sound muddy. You should listen to the original track to hear neutral
@@alanrossreviews Will give it a re-listen, thanks.
motion plus aptx or aptx hd ?
and does it make any difference
aptx, depends on your ears and the quality of the tracks you play, for me yes its a difference from sbc.
Mifa did told me for future products updates will be a app thing but they do think somewhere this year we will see a speaker with app lets hope so the upcoming mifa tango will probably not have update trough app
Currently the Wildcamping is still the mostly promoted
Media tool is fine for testers but not for Customers that mostly don't even know how to turn on Bluetooth
Yup this was always my point 👍
an app would be big step forward
Hi Alan, does the earfun has similar full sounding bass as bose flex?
thats my main issue, weak bass.
I think its still gonna run, especially if they make 0.50 the stock firmware, that would be fun 😁
@@alanrossreviews hhmm personaly i think 0.5 is not that well tuned.. introduces distorcion too but i think they are gonna continue without oluv anyways :p.
@@asunavk69 I got a pair that was sent a few weeks ago from China and they had 0.43 firmware. No way to tell the manufacturing date though.
@@android584 ohh i see in last case scenario a thing one can do? Is perhaps flash a desireable firmware xp
@@asunavk69 that's an option too, but it's possible that Earfun abandoned 0.50 on their newest manufactured speakers.
Alan, is there a link to download the updated firmware etc? Apologies if I missed it.

That comparison between the Motion Boom and the Uboom L was hilarious. The entire bassline was almost missing around 23:30 on the earfun and the Soundcore has to step in to save the day!
Did you pick that track on purpose??? lol
😝 but it was a serious point, dont call a speaker a monitor if half the bass instruments are totally missing,.
Hey, have you ever considered reviewing some marshall speakers such as the stanmore or woburn?
im strictly battery/Bluetooth speaker guy for now 🤪

Hi Alan in your opinion the earfun with 0.45 firmware vs Mifa wildrod which one sounds better?
uboom l but its bigger of course
I have the same version, mine sounded awful. I'm no audiophile but the all the vocals on the songs I tested sounded muffled/veiled, and didn't sound very clear, kinda sounded everything was jumbled together?
I hear there is a lot of sample variation, maybe you got a dud?
Do you mean the 0.4.5 version? If so, I share the same opinion. Sounds recessed to me. Bass is more than adequate for me. It’s the mids and highs. I’m curious how the 04.3.0 sounds in comparison. This hoop jumping for FW update and no official change log is souring me on this speaker.
@@gfm1496 I've returned mine, but sounds like what you're describing. And yeah, it's 0.4.5

Hi,
Soundcore Boost or UBoom L, which is better in your personal opinion?
Boost is smaller with more bass. Uboom has a more refined sound but you will need to pick older firmware. New firmware just gives more bass and less clarity.
What firmware version best for uboom l?
Please answer
@@adithpratama588 0.4.3

This speaker is only good in 4.8 outdoor mode.
Are those better than the Soundcore Boost v2?
Boost has fuller bass but less clarity
you have 2 ubooms so u can do stereo test!
yeah but i dont have the time as always, just have to prioritise. i need to clear this halo 100 thing that tronsmart sent me and then i want to spend time buildign a new pc and doing some proper gaming , well flight sim 🤣🤣 i have used them in stereo and it helps fill out the weak bass and seems to pair ok.
Try tronsmart halo 100 vs mifa wildbox vs jbl extreme 3

Was thinking of getting this to replace my xb33 for lower listening but maybe not
Its a decent option for very low level listening. There is some bass boost at lower volumes
@@alanrossreviews How is the clarity on low volume on this speaker vs the motion +? I care about how "clear" a speaker sounds and how clear vocals sound on low volume, idgaf about bass. My MacBook speakers already sound great and clear for low volume listening I wonder if any speakers can beat it.

Which Bluetooth speaker is the most linear?
Of all or in this video?
@@alanrossreviews no in general
@@anatol1204 they all deviate to some extent
Just compare the response graphs, and you will see. Or maybe not, because none of those are really flat.
its not that simple. one speaker may be within +-3db for 95% of the track but have a terrible peak and dip along it. another may be flat for 80% of teh response but not have any big dips or peaks and sound better. also response curves are only part of how it will sound in the real world.
