    Thanks for your excellent SSRS tutorials. I am new to this at work and I am using it step by step and able to deliver the reports that staff are requesting no problem ! Most other tutorials go over my head, tend to assume I know more than I do, this is quite comprehensive and clear. Thank you !

      +WiseOwlTutorials . You have given advice to use subtitle in one tutorial. I think it's better not to use that. By the way, there is no tutorial better than this playlist for SSRS.

    Parameter can be created from Parameters and DataSet but which would be good. If you could elaborate pros and cons on these to would may make sense. It's a suggestion.

    This video is great. Who would think that I would have to watch it again all these years later. My question is suppose you wanted the 2 date parameters to go gray when deselecting the Null (FilmRunTime parameter). How would you do that?

    Question...is there a way to display/hide parameters based on the selection of the "main" parameter? For example, I would like the user to select whether to run the report based on a fiscal year or a date range. If fiscal year is selected, then the parameter to enter a fiscal year would be displayed. If date range is selected, then the start date and end date parameters would be displayed (and the fiscal year parameter hidden).

    Hi there, very newbie here... trying to do that date range parameter in VS2010 using Access DB 2007 but can't figure that out. Any suggestion will be of great help. I love your tutorials as it is intended for newbie like me that it's showing the step-by-step process.

      ***** I did not watch from part 1 that's why i didn't know that you're using SQL 2012. I am just opening directly the VS 2010 and the database i use is access 2007 maybe that's the reason why it's not working the way as it works on your tutorial.

    I have been practicing as I go through these videos, which I think are great btw. I have run into a problem trying to use a date parameter on my report which is based off a database I had created. The problem is because I created my dates as strings rather than date/time objects. So when I first tried to run the filter, I got an error telling me it couldn't compare the 2 types. So I went back into the filter and changed the filter expression to a function expression where I converted the date string using the date conversion (=CDate(Fields!Date.Value)), and changed the data type in the drop down box to date/time. Now when I try to preview the report, it only says that it "Failed to evaluate the FilterExpression of the DataSet". I tried doing it as text only for "proof of concept" if you will, which "worked" but did not give correct results. Do you know how I could fix this (outside of changing my database)?

    Does the movie database is copyrighted to WISEOWL Only? Can i use it for hosting it in Azure for my Showcase (not for business but for my job interviews). I just need to confirm this before hosting it for my personal showcase purpose. Thanks for your videos and am going to do this for my job hunt. Thanks for all your support WISEOWL.

    Hi, Excellent tutorials for SSRS. Im really enjoying them. I have a problem I hope you can help me with? running a report with date parameters within Visual Studio runs lovely. however if I deploy the report, then attempt to run the report from the Reports URL, so in effect like a user would do so, I get a nasty error:An error occurred during reportprocessing. An attempt was made to set data set parameters '@startdate' that is not defined in this data set. (rsUnknownDataSetParameter)Can you help?

    • @carlawhite4517
      @carlawhite4517 9 лет назад

      +WiseOwlTutorials thanks for your reply. Do you think it could be a security permission problem for example the location of the shared dataset users do not have access to? or does the report with parameters have to have an embedded dataset rather than a shared for report manager to run and pass through the parameters?

    • @strusst
      @strusst 8 лет назад +1

      I know this is an older post, but did you check to make sure you used the same case when referencing your parameter in your dataset as it is setup with? I see in your error it is listed as @startdate. If your parameter's Name is StartDate instead of startdate, it can blow things up!

    Hi,
    Got a custom code question for you. I am not sure how to write the custom code for this scenario.Sorry I gave a poor example of explaining the problem last time. Should have gone like this
    Example: depending on item code + Product = may have two different results.
    24 (Item code) + 185 (product code ) = seadoo or
    15 (item code) + 185 (product code )=
    Quad Cheers

    Hi,
    Got a SSRS question for you. I am trying to figure out how to write in the wildcard , so when the user types in certain key points of a description field it filters down even more. description example → BALL SF7 3.438 .I wrote it : ="*"&Parameter!Desc.Value & "*", this works when you type in any one of those key point, but I want it to filter down even more when they type, ball, then SF whatever then say any size. Do you know how I could accomplish this ? I am fairly new to ssrs. Thanks in advance

    • @Rosiegsniffer
      @Rosiegsniffer 10 лет назад

      ***** Thank-you so much, I will try that out. Your video's have helped me learn SSRS and I am truly grateful for people like you in the world. I agree with you they have to much info in one field, it should be broken down into many fields. Just for curiosity, Is there anyway I could manipulate SSRS to create my own new fields based off a single field like the "Description" ? like a vlookup in excel.

    Hi,
    Got a custom code question for you. I am not sure how to write the custom code for this scenario. I have to return a single result based on criteria that are in two separate columns.
    Example : all item code "2" = "dog" and all Product Code "3" = "Black'' = "Dog-Black"
    all item code "3" = "cat" and all Product Code "3" = "Black'' = "Cat-Black"
    *the result is dependent on the two codes.
    Item code Product code have custom code translate to
    2 3 = Dog-Black
    2 4 = Dog-White
    2 5 = Dog-Green
    2 6 = Dog-Purple
    3 3 = Cat-Black
    3 4 = Cat-White
    3 5 = Cat-Green
    3 6 = Cat-Purple
    I have written a custom code that look like this: very simple
    Function GetItemCode(Value AS String) AS String
    IF Value = "2" Then Return "Dog"
    IF Value = "3" Then Return "Cat"
    Return "Unknown"
    End Function
    I just don't know how to write to make it look at the two things and return a single result.Do you know how I could achieve this ?
    Thanks in advance
