    It was a nice touch that WTMJ brought in a retired engineer who helped put the station on the air back in 1947.
    Some other TV stations used longtime ormretired engineers to flip the switch; others used longtime or retired news anchors to do the honors.
    For instance, at KTLA Los Angeles, longtime news anchor/commentator Stan Chambers (now retired) was given the honor of turning off that station's analog transmitter.

    One example of a TV station allowing a retired engineer to shut off its analog signal is BTQ7 (Channel 7) in Brisbane, Australia. Kev Dixon switched off the analog signals at 9:00 AM, when it was shut off after showing the vintage test pattern from the period BTQ7 launched (1959).
