You are world class historians and speakers. I look forward to the Gettysburg presentations every year. This is hallowed ground; sacred, defining, and meaningful to our wonderful county. Abraham Lincoln was able to define and seal the real meaning of the battle in 271 words in just a few minutes. He didn't make a performance and meant not to. Please keep in mind the sacrifice that individuals made there, "the last full measure of devotion". God bless you and keep up the good work.
Thanks for all you guys do to keep our history alive and well preserved for us and the future generations! Great tour! Wish i could have been there in person! Thanks Kris, Garry, and Col. Douds!
What’s remarkable to me is the amount of noise people’s feet making through the grass modern day. Without the Din of war it’s a definitely a formidable forbidding noise
My great great great uncle Captain Wesley Mellard Co H 13th Mississippi Infantry Barksdales Brigade fought near the Trostle Farm July 2 1863 near Gettysburg A sad and a terrible day for both sides 😢
There is a difference between farm woods with cows and firewood taken and wild woods where large creatures do not enter. My uncle had a wooded area with a creek fenced to hold younger cows before they joined the dairy herd. The woods were always walkable with trails in most places. My cousin has let it go the last 20 years or so and it has gone wild and summer it is hard to get around, trails are disappearing. These woods, a good part of 50-100 years of not having large animals and farmers in the woods, probably does not represent the farmers woods of the battle.
Years ago walking from Lee's monument towards the Emmitsburg road on newly plowed fields my son and I picked up 3 minies and a round shot so I would say there are still more.
@@AmericanBattlefieldTrust I do hope so. Just recently became aware of a relative in the 1st VT Cav, that didn't survive the Action, one of the few enlisted killed outright in that attack.
@@leehook3827 Really!! What company of the 1st VT was your relative in? May he rest in peace his sacrifice is not forgotten My great uncle was in Co. M and was wounded during Farnsworth's charge. Just helped accomplish the project of bringing artifacts of Col. Addison Preston home to Danville VT
@@AmericanBattlefieldTrustlooking forward to a video! I'll make sure to send photos to you guys from the Col Addison Preston uniform dedication on Aug 5th from up here in VT. Thanks for all you do!
That photo of all the dead horses from the 9th Massachusetts battery at the Trostle farm is so haunting and heartbreaking. They certainly didn't sign up for it.
Here is the full Trostle Farm tour from yesterday's stream that had such terrible connectivity. Thanks for your patience!
I've been waiting for the Col. D
Thank you!!!!
@AmericanBattlefieldTrust... really appreciated you re-uploading this. Thank you!
Doug Douds is one of my favorites. I'd love to do a guided tour with him there sometime if possible.
Kris White is amazing. Props, kudos and shout-outs ...

Bully for Paddy Adelman😎
A Union officer said,"Sickle's' wounding was bad for Sickles but was good for the Army of the Potomac".
Theres a tremendous potential for greatly improving battlefield action maps. Perhaps a combination of drones and A.I.

Did the park service have to clean up after all that tea was spilled? 😉 Sickles (and his leg) were probably grave-spinning...
How do you get an invite to these tours?
Just watch the Park’s public schedules.

I think it would be interesting to know how many cannonballs and minie balls can be found in a 100 yd area of Pickett's charge
Years ago walking from Lee's monument towards the Emmitsburg road on newly plowed fields my son and I picked up 3 minies and a round shot so I would say there are still more.
I know they done a survey at Shiloh at the Hornets Nest one time to see how much spent ammunition they could find there.
Someday I hope you all
visit the sight of Farnsworth's fatal charge on South Cavalry Field
We did preserve 5 acres of South Cavalry Field a couple years ago. Indeed we need to make a video visit!

If Custer had been there on that side of the field ... would he have been selected to lead that charge and forever change History ???
What is the badge that Colonel Doods wears?
How did garry injure his ribs
1:25:35 "When Sickles gets killed"???
Alas, only wounded.
Harvey Hill should have gotten command 2nd Corps. His record was as good as anybodys. Longstreet thought so too.
