Great job on that last turn with the road being narrowed out of nowhere. Race organizers covering themselves in glory in 2023. They had better get their sht together fast.
"What about a funnel after a long corner?" - "Amazing idea! That will definitely get you fired!" - "They promoted me."
Must have been the same guys who ran the Spanish economy in the noughties and the English education in Spain.
In the end riders have to check the racetrack beforehand
what if there is a metal or concrete bollard the other side of that barrier, would you be ok to have the barrier behind the bollard?
@@ynotnilknarf39in those cases, they should use barriers to narrow the road before the corner, so that the race line is consistent. The worst approach is what they did, narrowing it mid corner, as that changes the race line drastically.
My word those barrier placements. . Day 4 of the vuelta being a mess.
4 days of mess in a raw , not bad !!!
the barriers have to go somewhere dude not every crash is the organizers fault
@@fanda6122 They're not supposed to bend into the road right after the corner lmao
@@kaspervercruysse5710 maybe we should race on highways then nice and wide no spectators no barriers? for the race to be profitable for sponsors a sprint stage needs to finish in town. no sponsors? no race. it's bike racing maybe go watch figure skating if it's too scary for you
@@kaspervercruysse5710yer, better to leave a curb there instead? 🤦
The shot of the peloton at 1:19 is wild. They look like lights blinking.
Oh that's cool! Didn't notice until you pointed it out.
reminds me of those drone light shows
shit i need a zoomed in, hi-res version gif of that, pronto!
This guy is the reason I’m into watching all these tours. Amazing as always
I don't even know what a bicycle is, I just want to hear him go on. Thanks for all the great Patrick content, Patrick
One of my favorite sprints of the season. I really enjoy seeing the spotlight on sprinters who don’t usually get a lot of recognition
I'll apply as safety officer for La Vuelta or UCI. Seriously, how hard can it be to spot that
- a TTT in the dark
- 20m downhill run off
- a hairpin corner with narrowing barriers in the last 400m of a clear sprint stage
are a bad ideas?
Are the Spanish intentionally making the race dangerous? Who makes some of these course decisions?
Someone looking for drama, because compared to TdF this is already boring to watch on these summaries. Watching it live must be like watching paint dry.
They are just loco.
I can only think about one word: incompetence.
Bad turn took by the riders, thanks to organization nobody ate the barriers. You guys cannot stop crying??
The penultimate curve was too dangerous, the organization should have been more careful.
That shot of Remco entertaining Jonas is hilarious. The lidl bastard is like a court jester
"Gotta stay safe, gotta stay nervous" :D Gotta love the 3km rule ;)
I think if Ghys doesn't crash in the last corner Molano wins that one, super strong, just came onto the front when he still expected 2 guys in front of him and went for it.
Been watching so much more tours thanks to your videos! keep it up.
Love the channel...love the pod. Its really growing my love for the sport watching your stuff!
Groves had time to stop pedaling and look behind... then sprint for the finish 😅
😂Lolll that comment about the woman and her iPhone!
watching the HLs on Quest I thought he'd sent that phone flying and was waiting for them to bring it up in the studio, but now I see why they didn't; last minute save from the lady (shame yesterday's soigneur didn't have those reflexes).
Hahaha the thumbnail 🤣🤣 I'm in stitches 😆 Well done sir!
Love the Soler appreciation. YES. he's one of my favorites as well, he can really do everything. Incredibly consistent, can basically teleport to any part of the race at any point if he wants to. In some ways, he's like the Van Aert of UAE except that he doesn't get the same freedom to go for stages, and maybe couldn't pull it off as often as WVA. But in terms of strength, versatility, and going ALL-IN for his leader at 100% strength for the entirety of a GT? They're on the same level for me
please never ever compare marc soler and WVA
@@nickyhillz open yourself up to the possibilites of Marc Soler I promise it's beautiful
Soler is a BTEC Van Aert without the ability on cobbles (I assume, maybe he actually is alright lol)
lmaoooo love it@@Fyr35555
Sprint at your own risk, its like playing Donkey Kong riding in this year's Vuelta.
don't give them any ideas, I bet they are already searching for a Gorilla to have him throw barrels at riders, by now no one would even be surprised about it - and if the gorilla hit Remco with a barrel people would say "Remco's fault, he provoked the gorilla"
Love the videos , they always make my day , thanks very much , keep them coming !😊❤
The orginization of this tour/race baffles me again...
respect for Molano for being fair and going in a straight line, many other riders would have tried to block in that situation
😂 “nearly separating this woman from her iPhone”
The way La Vuelta has been going, I was nervous for another crash here 😮😮
Groves had the confidence in himself and knew that he can easily sprint into that sprinter's gap he made for himself. Beast
This year has just been an organizational and logistics cluster f%(k
My stream of the race buffered for like half a second during that vandenberg crash, it jumped from him leading them through the corner to the UAE guy just ripping it and VDB was nowhere to be seen, I was so confused, I had no idea he crashed.
It looks like Groves was looking behind to see it there were any other competitors for the sprint finish because he knew he already had it over Molano.
Neat sprint. Keeping full gas for so long is helluva taxing on lungs. Even if rider's legs don't feel fatigue, breathing becomes difficult after such an effort.
The çorner within the c6rner!😮
Caden Groves played that SO well.
you can literally see Coquard doing a front flip jesus
Full scorpion
If you look at VDB in that corner, it looks like his wheels are jumping around a bit and losing a little contact with the ground. Now maybe that was because he already saw the tightening corner or maybe it was because he was a little to hot for the turn in general.
Haha I was expecting the spartan to win from the thumbnail but you're right it is too long to sprint that early. Mammoth effort though and good to see.
Magnus Cort sprint at Volta Algarve 2023 stage 3 had to have been the longest sprint this year. He came from a different planet to get to the finish line.
I agree. That was crazy.
thumbnail had me sold
The sound of metal and asphalt provides a jolt of adrenaline for increased effort .
Tight turn or not, the leading riders started a left-hand turn on the left-hand side of the road. Really bad apex.
Whoever designed that bend that bends again, needs bending and bending again...
0:46 I feel for the dsm rider with those wide handlebars. Now he feels how many Scott buyers feel after buying an aero bike that comes standard with too wide bars.
I love it when a lead in to a sprint has 180* closing radius U turns….what the fuck? These organizers are bonkers with these setups. Shameful.
5:25 the corner that got tricked by its own self
I couldn't believe it when LR doubted the pride of Gympie in his predictions on sprint stage wins. Go Kaden!
"you have Ganna, half wheeling by ten wheels Cattaneo..." 😂
3th time i bet on Molano for him to go all out for 600 meters and lose the sprint in the final 50. This guy needs to be patient and comand his team better for the sprint. Oliveira is a european track champion. He knows hot to deal with speed and elbows, or you put him working for you or let him go on his own
Everyone on their phone again at the finish.. I don't understand it
You guys called it again today. 1 and 2.
5:58 those barriers are absolutely INSANE, look at all the space behind, there was absolutely zero reason to put them there, they could have easily put the barriers much farther back
Remco could win quad shirts. Not very likely to happen, but fun to imagine.
Premium thumbnail :D
4:01 "I'll pull up stumps" Uh, dear Lanterne Rouge, that expression is only understood by people in the British Commonwealth!🏏🏏🏏
Stumps...
@@MatthewLloyd481 corrected
Not the whole Commonwealth. Cricket isn't very popular here in Canada so most of us would not get it. Personally I've only heard the expression from Oz.
"Ganna half-wheeling by 10 wheels" 😂😂😂
the speed bike of groves 🤫
sad for coquard, really believed in him for this one
So this year Groves has wins at the Giro and the Vuelta. And no obvious path to a win at the Tour as long as Philipsen stays healthy. Kind of in the same boat as Olav Kooij - racing on teams w/o the opportunity to showcase their talents at the premier venue in cycling.
Classic organizer stage
The longest and most agonizing sprint I can think of is Mads Pedersen's sprint for bronze in Glasgow.
Magnus Cort’s sprint in the Algarve from 425m out was pretty damn long too
@@Powerwashincrocs Yeah, Cort has done some crazy ones too.
Longest sprint by Thomas de Gendt stage 8 2019 Tour de France.
Nearly got through with out drama
400 hundred litres of what !!!!
Alexander Kristoffs second place in milano san remo was longer.. Dont remember the year, 2015?
That’s nothing, next stage they will set a minefield at the finish, now that’ll be fun
I'm curious about why LR says, "Soler. One of my favorite riders, if not my favorite," compared to Chris Horner finding something to criticise Soler for in almost every race or stage he rides.
Does anyone know what Soler did to cause the undying hostility from Horner?
he just loves to crap on riders. everyone apparently is a knucklehead.
@@ichobi Yes, you are right. I don't object to him using knucklehead as his catchphrase, but he does that BECAUSE he really loves to crap on everyone. But what he says about Marc Soler is different. He reserves a very special style of criticisms for Soler.
My guess Soler said something about it really is not possible for anyone who never managed to get on a team to start in a Grand Tour until he was 33 years old to then go on to win one at age 41 without using drugs.
@@rossmurray6849 Subjectively speaking, Soler does in fact frequently made some dubious moves for himself and for the team. I would say much more so than some other riders. Sometime it cost them the wins. Not until recently that he became a bit more 'tamable' helping out the UAE leaders. Back at Movistar oh boy was he wild. Guy definitely has the potential but he appears to me a bit like Landa.
whats Remco Rojo mean?
It looked like something white falling from the sky into the middle of the peloton just at the time of the crash. Was it a bidon or something that got catapulted off a bike?
I think it was a drop on the lens.
5:38 - 5:43 disc brake strikes again
Ok next time organisers should add trampolines and fire circles to jump through! Should be more fun! Narrow barriers is outfashioned stuff imo.
I wonder wats going to happen next
What will the organisation mess up in stage 5?
I think the organisers forgot their job title. But surely teams were made aware of this weird barrier set up beforehand!?
They do have dimensioned drawings of every finish area but perhaps the set-up guys couldn't or didn't barrier the corner as planned. Or maybe the riders just forgot due to low oxygen saturation. No battle plan survives contact with reality.
Wouldn't it be great if anyone obstructing anyone ever would get fined so much that no one would even think of using a phone or anything else? Seems like common sense to me...not as common anyways...
"The race wait for nobody"
Unless it is Roglic, then TJV want to shut it down.
is it just me, or did any1 else notice that the tour organisers have alr fked up something in every single stage so far?
Honestly i dont really feel bad for van den berg bc of the way he was shoulder barging
He had a hard hit on UAE rider about 750 meters out. Call it karma, or just desserts.
Is Si trying to grow a moustache ? Competing with Matt Stephens?
Barriers are fine. Golden rule no. 1: know the finish. Simple as that
Not sure what the organizers have to do with anything here…what happened to teams studying the route (especially a finishing section for sprint finishes) and letting their rider know what’s coming? Van De Berg was looking infront of his nose while trying to be super agressive.
When they study the route there is no barriers you idiot
I think that corner looked like an unnecessary complication. However, unless they left it out of the course handbook, the teams should have briefed the riders. There is always track racing for riders who can't handle the complications of road racing.
Where is UCI? Why is the vuelta such a mess? What is happening?
Obviously the crashes aren’t an issue otherwise the UCI would have done something
Lol remco rojo and vinnegard
Remco rojo lmfao
can someone explain?
@@Der_RichieeRojo = red
Dam. What a waste of olive oil. Glad they were apprehended 😂
400 litres! 😂
You should do commentary. If I can't have Liggett I'll take you.
It's strange and funny not to hear Trek Segafredo...every time I hear the team name now it sounds like "Little Trek" like a bunch of dwarves or children 😂
Seeing as Spain don't seem to be interested in properly organising a grand tour, and it's the least good anyway. I say sack them off and replace it with a new format 4 week (4 rest day) mega grand tour across Europe as a whole - Tour of Schengen?? All the iconic roads and climbs.
Can't tell if you're being serious about Soler - I thought you'd been overly critical of him in the past
Groves was simply stronger on the day, he only had one rider to beat ahead of him, it was too easy for him.
Riders should just get together and refuse to race until the organisers get their act together. A tough race is one thing (TDF) but a course that's dangerous out of negligence is just pointless.
No Sparta is 1st, Molano was 2nd.
SePULveda
There always something bad happening
Patrick you need to work on you pronunciation of Sepúlveda. The 'u' needs to be stronger
And you need to work on your spelling. The word is pronunciation. 😂
Vuelta a Crasha
This vuelta has been an absolute disaster every single stage
Who on earth is organising this event? Look at how much space they still had behind that barrier, easily could have let the barriers run wider, why the hell would you whack outside barriers at a pointless 45 degree angle on the exit? Ban the super tuck for safety but we still have silly things like this happening. Absolute joke.
Might be the worst organised race I’ve ever seen haha
Tour of poland the other year with that super serious sprint crash
Can we have a day without an organizer goof up PLEASE?
Blundering organzing fools!
Why can't you just say " the woman and her phone"? Is this video sponsored ? Or do you get paid for product mentions?
First
Nope! Kaden Groves came first!
Wait i thaught remco won the time Bonus and now has 11seconds on mas. What did i Miss?
Vingegaard will bury Arrogant Evenepoel in 3rd week
I will be so happy if that happens Remco is a good rider but don't like his attitude 😮
This is the worst crash prone race by organizer design 😮🧐🤔🫣
