    I was over the moon when Goran won Wimbledon in 2001. I cried & smiled so much my face hurt. But I really respected Pat Rafter after the match as well. He let Goran shine in the spotlight & was such a nice guy who had only nice things to say about the opponent who toasted him that I felt bad for his loss for a minute. I enjoy these matches where there's no competition, no opponent, just the pure enjoyment of the game.

    Goran: Best serve I've ever seen. Impossible to read where it's going. Rafter: one of the best volley techniques ever (right up there w/ Edberg and Pat Cash). Both still hitting the cover off the ball, esp Goran. Impressive!! That forehand is nasty!

    • @martinhudecek8886
      @martinhudecek8886 2 года назад

      No. He was never equalling edberg who had better returns passes and an overall more effective serve whereas rafters could let him down at times. And edberg himself had injuries and burned out early. I did enjoy rafters game and wished he won his first Wimbledon final but Sampras was on that record breaking mission

    • @martinhudecek8886
      @martinhudecek8886 2 года назад

      @@Romans8-9 ok. I thought edberg gave Sampras similar problems to edberg but had less overall game if similar athleticism. I dispute it was just injury that got in the way of more slams. He was a bit more mentally suspect in finals but was a great competitor and a great sport. The Stefan edberg sportsmanship award went to rafter multiple times which is a passing coincidence but worth pointing out. And Ivanisevic himself is underrated and also has injury problems. Rafter may have scored some wins over edberg but had a poor head to head before edberg retired. On the other hand ivanisevic was a tough rival for both Becker and edberg, and a very competent clay courter on his day.
      Lastly other posters bring up other players, even from todays generation and not the peers of these two great attacking players.
      Hope I’ve answered your questions. If you are a Becker fan, trust me I’m gutted about the court he couldn’t leave as a winning participant this year.

      If Croatia was like the us of a and had many bigger events goran would be better remembered as he was great at home. I don’t think his forehand is the consistent weapon like so many others but when on it is a lovely shot to see

    2001 Wimbledon rafter should've won it. 🙄

      Watch set 4 and tell me that goran didn’t half explode thanks to dodgy calls and a semi partisan crowd to help unsettle him. And rafter was very close to losing his serve before goran did. Yes set 5 had chances… for both guys. It’s about taking your chance and rafter just didn’t have the slice serve up his sleeve enough. Another surface like melbournes or queens and I would agree he is the definitive favourite. Clay is perhaps the closest to 50-50
