    Back in the day, the surface MATTERED. Later on Rafter beat Agassi on Wimbledon, where the court was still fast enough for him to have an edge against Agassi's insane groundstrokes. Today, all court types are kind of the same. Grass is not fast how it once was, US and indoor courts got slowed down too. I'll never understand why they thought it was a good idea to "kill off" the diversity of the courts. Specially on this day and age, where "diversity" seems to be the holy grail for all things considered

      @Leaving Blank You've got some issues, nothing in this comment justifies you insulting anyone, neither OP nor Rafter. Adding to that you didn't even understand his comment which was all about Rafter being inferior to Agassi, except for a court as fast as Wimbledon.
      Funny enough that Rafter actually won the US Open 2 times in a row incidentally winning against Agassi one time and Sampras at the other. No one here said anything about him being the most consistent, he just might've been and that only against Agassi, because Sampras was the true master of the speedier courts...

    • @granttaylor8969
      @granttaylor8969 4 года назад +2

      Leaving Blank didn’t Rafter win the US Open twice? That seems pretty consistent to me. A lot of layers struggled with his serve volley style. With that game on today’s slow services he wouldn’t make the top 100.

      Us tennis purists hate the slowing down of courts in modern tennis but they changed it to benefit the casual fan and draw new fans. Someone who’s new to tennis will not appreciate the skill and athleticism involved in serve and volleying and can only be entertained with long rallies.

Rafter won the last two between them at Wimbledon. only your playing style is right for me and a boring game just serve and volley all the time, but every tennis player has their style and play it their way

    Maybe one reason Rafter never won at the AO, the hot and humid Climate is not good for his Serve & Volley game, US Open and Wimbledon are better for him.

    The tour misses class acts like Rafter. Australian tennis lately only seems to produces douchbags and clowns, unfortunately.

    Compare this to Djokovic Nadal 2012. The differences in intensity and precision are ridiculous

      Was that more intense and precise? What's your point?

      @@SiddharthVaz was much more. My point is that due to acumulative knowledge, most athletic bodies and better equipment every sport has improved dramatically in every aspect.

    All i see is a solid background player against a total (and somehow dumb) serve volley game.
    Sure Rafter would had have absolute 0 chance to win Djoko/Fed/Nad... They are too athletic, technique and have a very strong return/passing shots.

    Noooo match to current era. so outdated style of play, portraying the reason why Federer dominated the next era of tennis. Rafter has no weaponry to fight against modern tennis players

      You obviously don’t know what you’re talking about, Pat Rafter has a 2-0 H2H winning record over Roger Federer….you didn’t know that then obviously??
