    Hi Matty, for your oil/grease grooves look up that young, I think Philippino machinist who works off the floor with the most basic of tools. He produced an attachment for the tool post on his lathe that while the chuck turns the work, via pair of beveled gears, home made, and a Conrod like an engine would use, the tool gets moved in and out of the bushing producing a perfect "X" groove that doesn't exit the bush thereby keeping the oil inside the bush. I'll see if I can find the link. Otherwise, thanks for posting.

    That's a nice job well done! Always love the finish you get on 4140 (or 4340 as is the one I can easily get) - and as you demonstrated, you need to make sure you take decent cuts. Being feeble and taking light cuts, not so nice finish...

    How did these hold up? All the bushings ive replaced on minis have been hardened, so ive always just purchased the bushing and made a pin out of ground and hardened 4340 in whatever dimension the machine had in it? So am curious as to how it all works out when they arent hard

  • @tiredoldmechanic1791
    @tiredoldmechanic1791 2 года назад

    I've never liked pins with grease holes in them. They always break at the grease hole whether it's halfway through or all the way. I try to convert to greasing the bushing bore. I've converted many pins to external threads on one or both ends because I've seen too many with cross bolts or end bolts shear off the bolts so the pin comes part way out. It also helps to keep the flanges from spreading. The machines aren't designed for sideways pressure but the operators never seem to know that.

    Just wondering how you might have faired with a top & bottom cone for alignment.

    Nice job Matty - Would moving the greasing system to the arm, by drilling thorough the arm so the grease was injected in the centre between the bushes be a viable alternative to the hollow pin?

    Love the videos I was always taught to run coolant when parting off as you generate a lot of heat which usually causes the metal to expand and grip the parting tool and may give poor finish to the part
