A young fortepiano student of a friend of mine was confronted by an absolutely crazy CPE Bach sonata for the first time, and opined that he should be known as WTF Bach!
Hi Dave, I found this Qobuz album review: The title Young & Foolish is only obliquely descriptive of the contents of this 2024 release, which made classical best-seller charts in the summer of 2024. It is not that both composers were young and foolish when these works were composed; indeed, the two pieces by C.P.E. Bach come from the later part of his career. Instead, say the annotators from the ensemble Café Zimmermann, "One can readily imagine them, the young man and the old, crafting the history of music and of art, this quintessentially human activity, with the enthusiasm of reckless youth: young & foolish."
Yes I saw that. I couldn’t decide how much to quote! If it takes that much convolution to arrive at “we can’t really explain the title” they should not have bothered.
For me, C.P. E. is the greatest of the "other" Bachs.

Thanks for all the C.P.E. Bach reviews. I now have the two complete box's, the Harmonia Mundi, the Arkiv, and the Warner. Oy.. $$ 😁
I don’t know if you are fan, can you review the new Steve Reich 26 CD Collected Works boxset on Nonesuch
I will cover it, but it's not due out until mid-March.
@ I thought it was this month. Thanks Dave

In other words, it's a stupid title that tells us nothing helpful.
That's a pretty long non sequitur--and a reminder that we can't stay young forever, but there's no expiration date on foolish.
@ indeed. Or the employee who titled this no longer works for us and we can’t ask them.
The album cover also doesn't help, though it's very artsy.
