Third of all, the missing persons alert was extremely clever. Unfortunately, we have gotten so desensitized to missing people that we don't really look for them. This gets people to actually look at them. Fourthly, It seems there's more than just one threat going. Eternal Night or well twilight since there's some light left is bad on its own, but alien inhabitants dropping from it and possibly taking people? Uh oh. Finally, number 5 was the best looking out of all of them and it's a fact.

My humble guess? Very humble guess. I'm thinking the solar system in this setting's passed through a space texture. These are rare but not unheard of--the Hubble telescope has spotted signs of at least two of these in real life. But yeah, the main thing to take from this is that space itself is altered, making light pass through it differently if at all. The entity that was discovered? Probably is from a species native to the textured space. And I'm thinking the entity is likely less technological and more multidimensional. Meaning the body present was a facet or cell of a larger 4-dimensional ( 4 of space ) being that died from being cut off from the whole. The catch is going to be: how large is the textured space region? This sort of thing could literally resolve itself and be done with, in anywhere from days to years. That's just a question of the local diameter of the textured space, and also one of how much distances are distorted by any shifts in geometry.
