I’m just now watching this video and it brought back so many memories! I traveled to Portugal 🇵🇹 with friends way back in the early 2000’s. Tomar has certainly grown since then! We stayed in Lisbon and also in Nazare at the coast. We would take day trips to different places from both places. Thank you so very much for taking me along on this tour with you. ♥️

What a fantastic couple of videos and many congratulations. I have visited Portugal many times, but never above the Algarve! But as a passionate follower of modern and historical politics coupled with businees of landscaping, these two videos really have whetted my apetite for our next visit to the areas you have filmed in October this year. Thankyou for such research and storytelling...my hero of politics Henry Vlll ..albeit for initially selfish interests, he had the courage and fortitude to tell the Pope in Rome to "go and do one" and seperated from Rome. The Papacy continues to be so corrupt why was I not surprised to see how the Pontiff and his cohorts would stab the Knights Templar in the back at the behest of the King of Spain.

Witam. Kilka zdań do twórcy lub twórców tego kanału. Jako, że od lat jestem zafascynowany Portugalią obejrzałem większość dostępnych podcastów. Pokazujecie ciekawe miejsca w wybranych lokalizacjach, co ważne nie tylko te oblegane przez tłumy turystów. Sporo się dowiedziałem i za to serdecznie dziękuję. Nadal uczę się Portugalii, portugalskiej kultury, kuchni jak i mentalności. Jest sporo opinii jakoby Portugalczycy mieli zbliżoną mentalność do Polaków. Obawiam się, że to spore uproszczenie. Sam cenię codzienną życzliwość w tym kraju. Wracając do podcastów narracja dotycząca Zakonu Templariuszy wzbudziła moje zdumienie. Nie jest prawdą, że od połowy XII wieku zajęli się wyłącznie pomnażaniem bogactw. Byli nadal obecni w Królestwie Jerozolimskim i nadal strzegli szlaków pielgrzymów oraz brali udział w krucjatach. Te wojenne brutalne podboje jak byśmy je dzisiaj określili to nade wszystko "dzieło" kolejnych papieży. Stolica Piotrowa nie tyle wspierała co inicjowała kolejne krucjaty. Warto przypomnieć, że krucjaty papieskie nie ograniczały się do zbrojnych wypraw przeciwko muzułmanom. Langwedocja we Francji była widownią chyba jednej z najkrwawszych wypraw, przepraszam krucjat, w dziejach Europy. Tereny dzisiejszych Włoch, Niemiec i Polski również napotkały "chrześcijańskich" rycerzy - barbarzyńskie hordy. Wracając do templariuszy faktem jest, że mieli wiele twarzy. Byli mnichami, rycerzami, walecznymi obrońcami pielgrzymów ale również bezwzględnymi zbrodniarzami, używając naszych dzisiejszych określeń ich czynów. podczas gdy wielcy mistrzowie Zakonu Templariuszy podejmowali wielokrotnie tragicznie złe decyzje to tysiące templariuszy ginęło w Palestynie. Ocenia się, że zginęło ok. 20.000 samych rycerzy. Może to jednak jest największy błąd w ocenianiu ludzi żyjących setki lat temu, w zupełnie odmiennym świecie, mających absolutnie inne ideały i codzienność niemożliwą do wyobrażenia przez współczesnego człowieka.
Dodam jeszcze, że król Filip IV Piękny zniszczył Zakon Templariuszy z bardzo prozaicznych powodów. Gdy zabrakło możliwości rabowania Żydów i kupców włoskich musiał znaleźć kolejne źródło złota dla pokrycia szaleńczych wydatków przeznaczanych na umacnianie swojego królestwa. Templariusze byli przecież pod ręką a papieże byli na jego łasce. Na koniec kilka zdań o Krzyżakach. Z Waszej narracji można by wysnuć wniosek, że Krzyżacy niemal założyli państwo niemieckie. Na tereny Prus ściągnął ich polski książę aby pomogli mu w walkach z pogańskimi Prusami. Krzyżacy skutecznie wyrżnęli większość Prusów i wzięli się za Litwinów i Polaków - dawno ochrzczonych. To były barbarzyńskie hordy a nie oddziały rycerskie. Dla nas Krzyżak pozostanie synonimem sadystycznego i fanatycznego mordercy.
Trochę się rozpisałem. Wybaczcie ale dyskutować możemy o następstwach jak i genezie wielu faktów historycznych. Fakty obronią się same.
Nie znalazłem Waszych podcastów o Lizbonie a chętnie poznam więcej informacji o wyprawach portugalskich żeglarzy - odkrywców. Niby są takie miejsca ja Muzeum Morskie w Belem czy Sociedade de geografia de Lisboa (brak zwiedzających) ale te fascynujące wydarzenia i nie mniej fascynujący ludzie nadal czekają na odkrycie dla świata.

Cześć, dziękuję. Skorzystam jeszcze dzisiaj. To są miejsca magiczne, przynajmniej dla mnie. Podziwiam portugalskich nawigatorów. Kiedy patrzymy na ich przyrządy nawigacyjne podziw przeradza się w fascynację tymi ludźmi. Życzę kolejnych wspaniałych filmów z cudownej Portugalii. POZDRAWIAM JK
cześć raz jeszcze. Obejrzałem oba odcinki filmu o Belem. Dziękuję! Znowu pokazane miejsca, których nie znałem do tej pory i to ile na raz. Pozwól, że przekażę kilka sugestii / próśb o kolejne filmy. Kręcąc film o Muzeum Morskim proszę zastanów się nad 2-gą jego częścią poświęconą wyłącznie żeglarzom - odkrywcom w MM a do tego dokręcona druga część tego filmu w Siciedade de geografia de Lisboa. Ci ludzie na to zasługują. Tak naprawdę to chciałbym zaproponować Ci zainicjowanie w Lisbonie pewnego pomysłu. Choć Lisbona mieści wiele niezwykle ciekawych muzeów, wiele z nich nadal na mnie czeka, to jednak nadal brakuje jednego obiektu - MUZEUM ŻEGALARZY-NAWIGATORÓW. Ci ludzie faktycznie byli gigantami. Ich płaskorzeźby na Pomniku Odkrywców to zdecydowanie zbyt mało. Mieszkasz w Lisbonie, znasz zapewne wielu ludzi, być może również tych wpływowych. Pomyślcie o Żeglarzach - Nawigatorach.
Jeżeli w przyszłości będę miał szansę raz jeszcze udać się do Portugalii zdecydowanie poproszę o Twoje cenne wskazówki.

Olá olá Fernanda! 😀 Eu quase mencionei o Vasco da Gama no vídeo, mas depois esqueci! 😁 A cruz da Ordem de Cristo é exatamente a cruz do símbolo do Vasco da Gama, a cruz das caravelas portuguesas, mas aí no Brasil chamaram de cruz de Malta, e é um erro que se mantém desde a fundação do clube. A cruz de Malta é bem diferente, não é a do Vasco.
Sim, era mesmo Carioca, e faleceu muito jovem infelizmente (34 anos) ☹️

Boa Noite Miguel. How are you? This was absolutely fabulous! 1000 Obrigadas! As I watch I always have a lot of questions (which you always answer before I finish my thoughts, LOL). I do have one question for you. In the 3 months I lived in Portugal I saw so many beautiful churches, but I was alone and had no one to ask... as a non-catholic (Lutheran) who didn't speak any Portuguese (but is very slowly learning), would it have been OK for me to go in to any/most of the churches? I had a wonderful older lady who lived in the house beside mine... for Christmas she brought me a small gift of a tiny painting of her church. She didn't speak a word of English and I barely a word of Portuguese so I never got to ask her if I could have gone with her one day. I do regret not trying to ask (but I'm shy too). I just love these beautiful old churches. The only chapel I did go in to are the small chapel at Fortaleza de Sagres Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Graça).
I'm looking forward, of course, to next week's video. By your description, I would guess it's Quinta da Regaleira... but if I'm not mistaken you did a video in Sintra. I'm going to have to go back and look for that video to be sure 😉

I'm far from being a specialist in religious matters, but I'm sure there would be no problems at all in a Lutheran visiting a Catholic church, attending mass, etc. It's you personal choice. A few years ago the Pope somewhat suggested that Lutherans could take Communion at Catholic Mass...

I'm sure you are more than welcome at all churches in Portugal😊 Everyone is used to tourists from all walks of life and religions visiting their beautiful churches, it's not a problem. There's a mormon temple in Lisbon that you can't visit, and probably a couple more non-Catholic temples in Portugal, but Catholic churches are fine.

Great videos, have watched several. Beautifully recorded. What kind of camera do you use, and if you are using a grip or other camera mount, what kind? I am impressed with the steadiness of your videos. Well done.
Thank you! 😃 The camera is a GoPro, and in low-light conditions I use a mechanical stabilization device called gimbal (Crane M2), to stabilize the image. GoPro has very good electronic image stabilization, but it simply doesn't work in low light, the videos become a shaky mess. The gimbal fixes that.
If there's enough light I often just use a simple hand grip (its similar to a mini selfie stick) and let the electronic image stabilization do its job. However, in some circumstances using the gimbal may be necessary. The way one moves and walks also plays a big role in the final result. It's something that 2 years after starting the channel I'm still improving. The camera alone may not enough to produce stable images, even with a gimbal, which has its own quirks and problems.

Olá Miguel. Boa tarde. Tudo bem aí??? Sem palavras pra te dizer sobre esse vídeo. A história dessa cidade é de uma beleza, importância e significado, indescritíveis. Essa segunda parte me deixou sem ar. A Ponte Romana (confesso que sou apaixonada Tb pelo Império Romano pelas suas construções e o modo como eles assimilavam e preservavam as culturas dos povos que conquistavam) e o Rio Nabão muito lindinho. Agora, esse Convento e esse Castelo são de uma grandeza história incalculável. E eu que achei que tinha ficado muito emocionada ao entrar no Castelo de Guimarães, no Castelo de São Jorge, acho que vou ter um choque quando entrar nesse ao visitá-lo. Muito obrigada Miguel por nos proporcionar momentos tão belos, cheios de histórias de vitórias e sofrimentos desses povos. Grande abraço!!!!

Ah, a Vera já conhece dois dos mais importantes castelos de Portugal, muito bem! Para além do castelo de Tomar, ainda há mais alguns castelos construídos pelos Templários para mostrar, a seu tempo terão vídeo também. Um deles é exemplo único em Portugal (e muito raro no mundo).

@@verasolla2499 Quando uma civilzação se instala num local, deixa sempre as suas marcas, seja na arquitetura, cultura, língua, etc. Daí que tanto Portugal como Espanha tenham tantos monumentos, de tantas diferentes civilizações e povos. E todos os conflitos entre esses povos enriquecem a história que nos faz hoje viajar no tempo 😊
E felizmente há imensos registos escritos do que aconteceu. Por exemplo, os romanos documentavam tudo o que acontecia, não só nos seus territórios como nos territórios vizinhos. É por isso que sabemos o que aconteceu há 2000 anos atrás, nomes, etc. Abraços!

Portugal teve o império colonial até 1975 praticamente. Apenas o Brasil teve a independência antes (1822). Não foi rico durante esse tempo todo.

Hello Virginia! 😊 If you're going in the summer I would think twice before visiting Evora... It can be extremely hot in the summer. Temperatures sometimes go above above 40ºC / 104ºF. Other than that, it's a very difficult choice to make, Evora has the Roman monuments, Tomar has the Knights Templar... Tomar's historic center is a bit smaller, there are more picturesque streets and plazas to wonder about in Évora... I can't decide between the two, both are fantastic places to visit as a tourist, but in the summer I'd go to Tomar. Ultimately, it all depends on what you find more captivating, historically speaking. Personally, I love the story of the Knights Templar. But if you want to see a 2000-year old Roman temple, and actually touch it, Évora would be the right choice.

А относно пленителната история на рицарите, такава каквато си я представяме днес, най-добре запазени следи са запазени в Родос, Бодрум и последният им пристан Малта - хоспиталиерите. А съдбата на тамплиерите е трагична.

Да, съгласен съм, много исторически места остават да се видят в Португалия. Туризмът е много важна индустрия в тази страна, някои места имат милиони туристи и губят своя "чар". Други градове имат много малко туристи и се чувстват много празни. Имаме нужда от баланс.

Very nice and informative videos. Maybe there were injustices done to them so through the years I've been researching about the Templars. To the point I was thinking of going to one Greek isle because it was stated they've live there. Turned out my researching about Portugal & what to see aside from Lisbon led me to your channel. And found a very important thing. As early as 11th century there was mentioned he came from Palestine after siege at Gaza, this is one collzborating info. that there's a country called Palestine & Palestinians are already in Palestine, not them being made as the squatters by the murderers fake Jews Israelis. They came from Europe.

I have always wondered what life was like for the average person enduring all these invasions that came with many changes including the change in languages and religions? Also what I know now about Imperialism and colonization is that many peoples were seriously harmed and their resources exploited for the benefit of European rulers including the Pope, the common people's overlords.
The Big Lie is that these Indigenous peoples were savages with no religion! They all had their own cultures, languages, spiritual beliefs/religions, art work, etc. This great thievery is nothing to be proud of. Unfortunely the real savages were the European "explorers" who did unspeakable atrocities, to these innocent human beings, then lying about them to the uneducated and ignorant European back home. Portugal isn't the only European nation with blood on its hands.
Hello! 😊 Unfortunately, invasions and imperialism was a common theme throughout human history. Europeans were colonizers but also colonized numerous times, it's not fair to single out Europeans as the historical "bad guys". For example, without the Arab invasion and conquest of the Iberian Peninsula the role of the Knights Templar in history would have been a lot less relevant. The people living in these territories also had cultures, languages, spiritual beliefs/religions, art work, but none of that mattered to the Moors crossing continents to invade their land and impose a new religion and way of life. Continuity is very important to the study of history.
If we're going to talk about blood on a nation's hands, no civilization/culture/country is immune. For example, we could talk about the role of African monarchs and rulers during the Atlantic slave trade... It's an urban myth that Europeans would go to Africa and kidnap people. No, they would simply go to Africa and buy slaves in markets dedicated to it. The trade was done by Africans and Arabs, so why should Europeans be the only ones with blood on their hands?
Slavery has historically been widespread in Africa. Systems of servitude and slavery were common in parts of Africa in ancient times, way before any European ever set foot there or even knew that the continent existed. When the Atlantic slave trade (which started in the 16th century) began, the centuries-old pre-existing local African slave systems began supplying captives for the Europeans, as it was more lucrative.
And slavery in contemporary Africa is still practised, in Mauritania, Mali, Chad, Sudan, etc. It doesn't make sense to focus solely on the past (which should never be forgotten), while giving a free pass to present-day slavery.
