Villains like Firelord Ozai and Sosuke Aizen are to be appreciated. Ozai was just evil because he had power and even Zuko talked about how stupid it would be to learn why he's evil. Aizen didn't want someone he didn't know to be in control of him. This is how you write villians

There isn't a specific way to write villains, they could be pure evil or have a sad backstory or be manipulated or whatever but they just have to be good villains and well written.

I love pure evil characters, not everyone needs a sad crybaby backstory or have this super complex end goal where they somehow manipulated everything from the start. Some characters can simply just be horrible humans or beings that can’t be reasoned with or intimidated. They don’t show any concern for human life and are a force to be reckoned with, that’s what makes them terrifying.

One that can be held as the "Pure evil villain working in the story", has to be Judge Holden from the fictional western book, Blood Meridian. (Same author as no country for old men). Dude makes the joker look human in comparison. While joker is a man that became chaos incarnate; Holden was born as the war horsemen of the apocalypse. First scene of him, has him accuse a town priest of being a PDF; town turns against the priest, kills him, and later on at a bar when a character asked "How do you know he did that crime?" Holden simply says "He didn't", and laugh off the fact that he made a man of faith, into a public enemy, off a baseless accusation, and gotten him killed for it. This love to incite violence and war, doesn't stop there. Nor does it apply to only the men. Seriously great book. Audiobooks of it, are available even on YT.

Strawmanning has been so prevalent in every movie and show that's come out recently, and I've been shouting this from the rooftops to anyone who cared to listen. I was a creative writing major in college, and I encountered countless stories written using straw manning as the central feature. Now there is nothing wrong with chasing catharsis through building up an irredeemable villain and having that villain be absolutely decimated (though I would consider it kind of cheap writing), it's another issue entirely when you plug your own political/ social beliefs into it. It turns what could have been a compelling story into an irritating, self absorbed, narcissistic, preachy pile of smoldering garbage. It's wild to me that these are the stories that hollywood and major corporations are encouraging. No wonder the writer's guild is on strike if they are asking them to pump out this puke.
Using villains that are too sympathetic or that “Have a good point but go too far” is also a subtle demonization of whatever point they have and blinds us to the fact that true evil isn’t comical and DOES exist
The big mistake writers make when writting pure evil villains is assuming that being evil is their one trait or that making them sympathetic is the only way to fix it. I mean, hell, lets go back to Sauron. Tolkien did give him an understandable motivation and a personality. Basically, he genuinely believes that he's doing the world a favor. He wants to create a world of pure efficiency by removing things that he percieves as needless and redundant. The problem however is that the things he sees as redundant are things such as honor, integrity, selflessness, humility, justice and love. This makes Sauron a more nuanced villain, but Tolkien was smart enough to not focus on this because it didn't remove the fact that he's still an evil s.o.b who needed to be defeated.

Dio Brando is a good example of this. He has no morales, petty beyond belief, and basically just lives to hate on people. Yet he is arguably a top 10 villain of all time.

If you have a fundamental understanding of the music industry you’d understand a strike is damn near impossible. The way they pay artists producers writers engineers masterers and mixers as well as staff within each company you’d know nobody is going on strike. And with independent artist being a thing no the industry would never have a strike. If they were going to it would have happened decades ago

I think ai music is a good thing but it would be kinda cool ifthey could use the ai database to see where the AI learned from so that if you use a copyrighted song and used it for your own ai music. It could tell where you got it from and who the original artist is and then they get the rights to flag or take down if the song is based on their likeness since all the ai is doing is using an already online voice and then replicating it. So if we trace it back to what it originally replicated we could essentially allow ai artists to make music but give the original artist money and the ability to take it down if they so choose.
honestly i feel like people get too wrapped up in the morality of villains, like its the only quality that can make them entertaining or believable. And like that just isn't true, they're characters too and most popular characters are a lot more than just their basic moral compass
