Back in 1994 in Russia I had body repair shop. We did exactly the same way replaced broken windshields on Russian cars. Old windshield gasket we covered by engine oil to make it soft and flexible again for easier to install back to car. Holly cow, old technics people are using across the globe never dies. All trucks and cars are the same built no matter what brand.
Remove the wipers, leave gasket in there and bone it in, so much easier.. it’s laminated glass ur lucky it didn’t crack .. well ur lucky it didn’t crack working out of a mini van for kids ..
We always removed old gasket cleaned the area from dust, debris, dirt collected especially on old cars, covered slightly with special substance windshield area to prevent moist, etc., and new windshield glass back to place. Never cracked or broken during re-installation.
