Lyrics:
Gather round the village square
Come good people both wretched and fair
See the troubadour play on the drum
Hear my songs on the lute that I strum
I will make you laugh
Revel, Merry-dance
Throw your pennies, then you'll hear
More of
The story-telling half
There's no other chance
Always move on
Raconteur, troubadour
Take the face that you see for the man
Clown and minstrel, I am what I am
All my family, not of my kin
Home, wherever, the place that I'm in
Humors give me wage
Favors for my art
Rising, falling
Everyone struggle on
All the world's a stage
All can play their part
I have chosen
Raconteur, troubadour
Dusk is drawing my story is spun
Dawn is falling my day's work is done
Morning, rested I set on my way
Find new faces to offer my play
I will make you laugh
Revel, Merry-dance
Throw your pennies, then you'll hear

I've always thought of this as the most 'timeless' song I've ever heard! Doesn't sound dated, nor from a particular era. Just plain great!
One of my favourite GG tunes.
I can't escape the thought that the octopus has some occult relevance.
No Doubt, One the most talented rock bands.. I've seen GG many times in the past..
Miss you Guys
I propose that they were THE MOST TALENTED Prog Rock Band of all.

Agree.... PERIOD ..
I still remember being 15 years old and riding my bicycle to Roslyn New York to a little place called the Stone Cellar. It was a headshop and record shop, bought this album and played it nonstop.
Ray Shulman has to be one of the best musicians in the prog camp. Killer bassline’s and absolutely stunning violin work.GG have always been up there for me.
I think Ray is one of the most underrated and overlooked bassist ever. He's as technical as most bass players at this time (Chris Squire, Geddy, John Wetton) Hell, he could probably keep up with Jaco and Stanley Clarke...
I agree ! He is flawless and definitely up there with all the bassists you mentioned 😎
And guitarist as well! His acoustic duets with Gary Green are amazing!
@@mauromontobbio8522 yes especially on acoustic !knots/octopus live is amazing the way they look at each other on the live footage is joyful they are buzzing off each other’s musical chemistry 😎
Absolutely great chops. A bass player's bass player. R.I.P., Ray Shulman.
I REMEMBER THE SIMON DUPREE SONGS FROM THE 60'S. THEY WERE GREAT AND THEN TO GO AND INVENT PROG THROUGH GG.
THE MUSICOLOGISTS WILL BE WRITING PHDs 100 YEARS-----LEGENDS
Great Progressive Rock...Masters from other Dimensions !...
I can't really name favorite GG albums or favorite songs. It's usually the song I'm listening to at the moment. But when I think of Octopus, "Raconteur Troubadour" is the first song that comes to mind and I love it very much. ♥
When you don't need LSD to trip inside your mind! A masterpiece! Greetings from Brazil!
It's even better with LSD, but I get your point haha

I’m not sure if Derek wrote most of the lyrics for Gentle Giant, but they add so much to the incredible music. It’s just a higher level of intelligence, insight, wisdom etc. i’m so glad he went on to be social, successful music executive. And in a way, I think it validates the specialness of all of them
Frikkin' brilliant stuff.
This is just it, really the special thing with GG. Well, I can understand why they dont became a big hype like some of the other big names but for us who discovered their fantastic ingenuity into music...well for me it was a discovery still growing after all this years. Great Britain shall be proud of all he great musicians they have given birth to and this is the peak of it all. Just fantastic.

Glad you guys are still around! Love your music so much, once I discovered you guys I listen almost every day!
Now my life is complete. Well done GG. Most impressive.
RIP Ray Shulman
Born in 1957, I could already track the development of different styles of Prog Rock from 69 on into the early seventies, with Yes, King Crimson, ELP, Frank Zappa and so many others, including the "Krautrock" in my home country - like The Can, the early Kraftwerk, Birth Control and so on. I always felt that GG was the closest to: Jethro Tull, because of that folky touch and a special kind of melodic approach.
This makes me have Feelings about Bards
🤪🤪🤪
Just modern Bards with new instruments
If ever a band was TOO GOOD hahahahahaha
I just like their tunes with a violin
Playing a bard in DnD and this only feels appropriate.
Dude, that's awesome. XD
That's cringe as fuck lol.
Fair enough though ig.
Gentle giant is celebration of life!

I think you nailed that.
1:04 how they make that sound? Fucking amazing. Trippy
Hey Mr Wilson, ain't that base drum too loud in the mix?
