An awesome medal! What a brilliant rider! Went on to be road cycling world champion in the same year with a perfectly timed sprint finish beating Vos for heavens sake! Class, Class, Class.
Very. She is a very impressive woman, who sheds a different perspective on the supposed myth of British Cycling. She seems the sort of person that could do a lot of good in the UCI... or in British politics!

The Hero of this race did not win a medal, and even on her Wkipedia page, her achievement is ignored. The real Hero was Australia's Sara Carrigan who had won Gold in the 2004 Olympics. As the weather went from bad to disastrous and cyclists started skidding off the road, Sara Carrigan took the lead. She put her head down into the storm and rode for mile after mile after mile with everyone else simply following in her wake. And truly, that was where they belonged. Sara Carrigan did not WIN the Women's Road Race at the 2008 Olympics; she SAVED it. Unfortunately, the maker of this clip has not included was was happening for the greater part of the race. Presumably they simply did not see the full significance of what happened, or recognise that what Sara did actually made the race possible for everyone else who was riding it. I don't know what was going on in her head, but she must have known that to take the lead as she did, and face the brunt of the wind and driving rain for the greater part of the race was going to cost her the medal. Her race should go down in Olympic History as one of the great sporting moments.
hmmm...but was she out front because of team tactics? In 2004 the German dragged her to the line and she won. In 2008 she was out front solo - not sure if thats heroic or just a bit of a suicide mission
Nicole doesnt get enough recognition here in the UK as she races on the continent. Shes Brilliant.
One of the most undervalued champions GB has ever produced. She was pure class.
What i can remember from cycling competition of Beijing 2008 olympics is: rainibg and how beautiful China is
Probably our best gold of that olympics and I'm not a cycling fan but when she crossed the line the sheer joy she had was amazing.
