Shane looked like a tutorial for a fighting game at the beginning, when he did the jabs and the lead kick I imagined two squares and two x, for the backfist a back triangle and back circle with for spinning kick.
Shane confirmed for the next Tekken

It's also a lot harder for someone to catch your kicks if you've got a nice fast snap on them.

that is what you think. If you will meet one who is good in kicking defense, I doubt if you can still react once you ve have tumbled to the ground with the kicking defender going with to the ground.

Great analogies! Really useful stuff, I use similar ideas all the time when teaching. I find that comparing the side kick to a straight punch helps people to get a straighter kick, instead of doing a bad roundhouse instead.
Personally though, I think the equivalent of the hook is the outside to inside crescent kick-it's a bit more in line with how the joints are used. The roundhouse is more of an overhand equivalent. And I usually compare the push kick or tepe to a shove. :)

Another thing to point out: while everyone knows that quick and clean punch retraction is important, a lot of fighters finish their kicks sloppily. If you're fighting full contact, you might end up open to your enemy and get blasted. In semi-contact, it might be even worse. Depending on the rules, the judges won't award points for kicks if they are not retracted properly - even if you hit your opponent. So when training kicks, don't forget to train the retraction phase. You wouldn't forget it when training your punches.

Karate practicioner here. This is pretty much how i was taught to kick when i was a kid. That "snapness" of both punches and kicks is called "kime" in karate, which comes from japanese "kimeru" (決める: "to set", or "to fix"). It's all about controlling your technique all the way to the contact point, either with your arms or your legs :)))

The similarities are there, but only go so far. When you throw a punch, your entire body is not off-balance. The legs are also more limited in terms of what they can do. However, yes, in terms of kicking, IF you can land solid, a kick can be a one "punch" knock-out because they're (usually) stronger than arms, and let you keep your distance from your attacker, but they're also much more limited in what they can do.

Is it a strength problem or a flexibility one?
If it's strenght try to implement a lot of movements in your training where you have to lift your leg high sideways. For chambering you mostly need the abductors, gluteus and abs (the ones on the side).
You need to build up a better mind-muscle control by showing your body that you need to contract exactly those muscles.
Try to chamber as often as possible and maybe even do it everyday a bit
