This is a long comment. After watching this review, i’m still left between ibasso dc07 pro and onix alpha. When it comes to price, still highly considering the alpha. I own the ibasso dc03 pro which is amazing, and purchasing onix alpha is an upgrade. What i’m getting here is that onix’s analog sounding timbre should add more body to the sound with less fatiguing highs. I own the simgot ea500lm, which sounds energetic and clinical, so that would be really giving a piercing highs when paired with dc03 pro. Now, here’s my impression when paired dc03 pro with shure srh750dj, it sounds less bass with no piercing highs. And when compared with audio technika ath-pro 5x, it sounds with a stabbing highs. So i’m really going along with andy’s reviews here. Especially for analog sounding dacs released this year.
Hi andy. By the way, in your perspective, is onix alpha’s performance really sounds extremely detailed? Because it seems really hard and challenging or rather impossible for a analog sounding dac to be clinical without the “piercing/stabbing” high. Details, macro/micro presentation, and soundstage width is my priority.
Hello Andy (maybe u already plan this), would you compare in a shootout your 5 star dongles new vs old? I mean ovidius vs centrance vs alpha vs dc07 pro vs ...? This kind of video.
Thanks! Synergy is how well two different items work together, in this case either the headphone or IEM being paired with the dongle. Richness as the name imply how rich or dense the sound notes are, how solid the body of sound
I have the Dunu DTC480. You won't notice any difference. I actually don't like how much forward is middle/vocals. I think I will sell it with less than a month of use
The numbers says one thing, actual real life listening tests will reveal the true nature. Regardless, both are already exceedingly powerful for a dongle
I have the Fiio KA17 and don’t wanna regret of my purchase. I want the most powerful dongle for planar iem That’s remember a dongle called ACMEE of 720mW but only have 1 chip DAC ESS
Hello friend, nice video. I have a question, I have a Fiio KA5, and a just recently order an Aful Explorer so I was looking for an upgrade and best synergy, which would be better DTC 480 or Onix Alpha?
How to turn on high gain mode ? You didnt mention it in the video , is this dongle enough for p1 max 2 ? Buying them next month . Liked this better than the ka13
You say it reminds you of Kiwi Ears Allegro, so in tonal precision and instrumental realism would you say they are the same? Or would you say that this is less than an ibasso dc-04 pro or DC-06 pro?
Precisely what I am referring to, is that DTC480 is as analog warm sounding as Kiwi Ears Allegro. DC06Pro is not as accurate/transparent due to enhancement in sound dynamics, DC04Pro on the other hand offers flatter neutral but transparent accuracy without warming effect
Hello andy, can you tell me whether the cvj assassin is better or worse than truthear Hexa and other iems in that range. From your review I got convinced that it is good, versatile and value for money, especially for gaming and has my prefered neutral sound signature. But I can spend little more to get the other iems in the $100 price range if I can get better sound and gaming performance. So is assassin is the choice or something else is better?
If gaming is your priority, then Hexa does not have the pinpoint accuracy and crisp imaging that Assassin offers, Hexa is tuned specifically for music with Harman style tuning
Both are already the best among many, you just need to determine what sort of sound style you prefer. Dynamically enhanced, KA17, transparent neutral, DC04Pro
$50 is a good price for a good dongle. I don't know what you use now, but assuming you are using something less resolving, then yes this DTC480 will offer better quality overall
You have tanchjim zero(4.4mm)mod version right? What is the difference between 4.4mm and 3.5mm version of tanchjim zero on Onix alpha XI1? The sound is improve or not?
Unfortunately, my modded Tanchjim ZERO 4.4 is no longer working due to some damage done when I tried to resolder the cable (tried to solder in a much thicker Valkynaz cable), so I have not tested it with ONIX Alpha
@@AndyAudioVaultYou will be try again? If you done I want to know the result because I also love tanchjim zero. Do you have plan to make review video of tanchjim mod version?
That's unlikely. I have damaged 3 Tanchjim ZEROs in the attempt and I don't want to do it again. Tanchjim ZERO shells are not designed to be opened and does not have provision to accommodate modular connectors
I have the Dunu DTC480 and I'm disappointed. Isn't a complete bad dongle if you like a lifeless sound, I expected a better sound, more power and better soundastage and this dongle just can't deliver that. The sound is very bright with the vocals pushed too forwarded and most of the time lacks weight or punch in low region. I think that even my Ibasso dc03 pro still a better option
Compared to the ibasso, would you say that dunu sounds less lively, less euphonious? Would you also say that it does not surpass it in level of detail?
@@andresvr8357 definitely the Dunu sounds less musical and lively than the ibasso dc03 pro and somehow more intimate, special the vocals. The Dunu is more bright and I have a little bit more details, maybe because is more brighter. But for me the Ibasso has a more powerful and lush sound, I do prefer the ibasso to just enjoy the music
I love dunu. Have lots of their equipment. So glad to see that they are making door stops now too.

I love Dunu, so I'm sure I would love this DAC. Fantastic review, Andy!
Thanks James!
Great review Andy, I saw that DUNU is now also coming up with the DTC800.
Thanks, I already in the process of getting DTC800
Cuál es el Dunu dtc 800, tienes enlace?
Not a bad score for this dongle, but I'm glad I could get the Onix Alpha for $90, I think it worth the extra money
Love alpha
Buena revisión Andy

Thanks for the suggestion, I might do it once I have the time
Hi andy love your videos! can you explain what is synergy and richness in the comparison section?
Thanks! Synergy is how well two different items work together, in this case either the headphone or IEM being paired with the dongle. Richness as the name imply how rich or dense the sound notes are, how solid the body of sound
Hi Andy, great video 😀 i noticed on Dunu's website that the DTC480 has 5 different filters. Did these adjust the sound much?
They don't make much difference if any
I have the Dunu DTC480. You won't notice any difference. I actually don't like how much forward is middle/vocals. I think I will sell it with less than a month of use
I am very curious to see how the DTC800 stacks up against the Onix Alpha. Have you had a chance to hear the DTC800?
I don't have DTX800 to compare
@ I thought you had one coming in. Some people are claiming it sounds as good as the Onix Alpha 😳
I don’t understand
The alpha (500mW) is more powerful than KA17(650mW)?
The numbers says one thing, actual real life listening tests will reveal the true nature. Regardless, both are already exceedingly powerful for a dongle
@@AndyAudioVault I understand

The most powerful dongle now is the ONIX Alpha. But really tons of other dongles are closely matched with loudness
@@bernaquinonezreveles2952 newly released l&p w2ultra has 800mw but might be too harsh sounding, not analogue.
I wouldn't be surprised if blon v1's doongle was as good as this one
I will know soon, I have one on order
blon v1 is a rubbish
Curious question, is your Hifiman Sundara the 2022 version or the original one? Thanks for the response!
It's the later model
Hello friend, nice video.
I have a question, I have a Fiio KA5, and a just recently order an Aful Explorer so I was looking for an upgrade and best synergy, which would be better DTC 480 or Onix Alpha?
For Aful Explorer, I will recommend ONIX Alpha more unless you want even warmer sounding synergy then go for DTC480
@@AndyAudioVault thanks friend one more question if you don't mind. How many hours for burning aful explorer?
Hi Andy! Are you planning to evaluate the Kinera/Celeste CD-10?
Not sure yet, we see how it goes as I have so many already here in hand
@@AndyAudioVault thanks for the quick reply Sir. !
Hi Andy. This and the DEW4X appear to be same thing in different package. What is the difference in sound between the two?
Very closely matched between those two, running same Cirrus logic DAC. Both I consider being smooth and musical
How to turn on high gain mode ? You didnt mention it in the video , is this dongle enough for p1 max 2 ? Buying them next month . Liked this better than the ka13
Press the vol up and down at the same time. enough for P1 Max? this thing is more than enough for something a lot harder to drive like HiFiMan Sundara
@@AndyAudioVault great thanks i like the minimalistic looks and also want something thats not drains battery fast like the ka13
@@AndyAudioVault talking about the p1 max 2 never liked the s12 pro's design though i prefer resin shell also since its lighter
@@AndyAudioVault how do i know its in high gain mode ? Is there any indication in its lights ?
Very much like the AK HC2🤔

Yes it will pair really well with MP145

In this price point, Assassin is the one to go for gaming. You can also consider ND X12

Andy, would you recommend pairing this DAC with the Simgot EM6L?
Depends on what you looking for. If you want rich velvety output then yes, DTC480 can make your EM6L even richer/warmer sounding
is dtc480 better than epz tp35?
No. They are tuned differently
