Another enjoyable, informative and grammatically correct video, Jerry, Linda and Gizmo. Thank you! Jerry, I believe you mentioned in one of your videos that you were a teacher by profession? The grammar lesson and geographical display with narration proves that you are an excellent teacher to this day! 👍🏼 It's official, The Villages Florida Newcomers are the #1 RUclipsrs in The Villages (in my humble opinion). Take good care you three! Ron

I would like to say thank you for your videos they have been helpful to us, we used to winter in Yuma AZ for the past five years. during the winter months, I decided to look elsewhere that might be closer to home we are from Michigan. I ran across your videos on RUclips and started watching them they were very helpful in making our decision. we were home about five days and decided to take a road trip to the villages in the meantime I had contacted a realtor she was very helpful and set up about 10 homes for us to look at we were there 5 days by the 4th day we made an offer on a new home and went back to Michigan. came back down three weeks later to finalize all the paperwork.
We just arrived home yesterday ( Michigan which is 18-hour drive we did it in one day) we are very pleased with our new home and I'd like to say thank you for all the videos they were very helpful, We are looking forward to our new adventure

Great video. It's important to have a frame of reference. We love the beach but I think if we lived in The Villages, the pool and other activities would be enough for us on a daily basis. I have family in Naples, Ft. Lauderdale and Stewart. We also went to Sanibel and Captiva - one of our best vacations ever! Florida really varies but I think being based there still allows for experiencing a lot.

Two more great Gulf Coast beaches to check out are Venice beach (go hunting for shark teeth, it’s the a Shark Tooth Capitol of the World!) and Siesta Key beach with its beautiful white quartz sand. Both places are about 2 hours and 15 minutes from The Villages, between Tampa and Sarasota.

Coco Beach, funny. I thought of astronauts as well, but knew it was I Dream of Jeanie. Great video. I think I’d fly into Tampa after the initial move because of the dogs. I used to drive from Duluth to Indiana, stay the night with the kids, then drive to Georgia and spend the night either in or near Vidalia . The next day we’d drive into Winter Haven. A friend had/has a condo there. From there we’d visit all the attractions, even Cypress Gardens which has been gone a while now. I haven’t been in years. I think it was Valdosta not Vidalia.

Check out Venice Beach sometime. The sand is nicer than many other beaches. The parking is free, and it’s a short walk to the beach. There are facilities at that beach. We’ve been there many times.
A much larger beach is Siesta Key Beach. There’s a huge parking lot and a huge beach there. It’s a long walk to the shoreline on that beach from the parking lot. We’ve been there many times too. The parking was free, but they were talking about making it pay parking in the future.
Sanibel beach wasn’t that great, and you have to pay about a $6 toll on the bridge. We visited most of the east coast beaches you mentioned, and they were pretty run down compared to Venus Beach and Siesta Key Beach.
There’s a couple of great parks in Punta Gorda that are worth visiting.

J&L, do you have a video or any information on permanently moving to villages verses renting as snow birds if a couple still wants to be close to children and grandchildren back home. Cost to rent, feeling of belonging, renting when not in use, etc. Thanks you two for the light informative videos.

    • @JERRYANDLINDA
      @JERRYANDLINDA  4 года назад +1

We have friends that do both. 2 sets of friends actually started out as snowbirds, But were continually worried about their homes up North when they were here, and were worried about their home here when they were up North. They ended up selling their home up North and moving here full time. Nicer homes here are not cheap to rent in the Winter which is the time you want to be here. Last winter friends from Indiana rented a designer home, which was not with a View, or a pool, or anything fancy... and they were paying $5000 a month.
As far as family, we are not good ones to ask.

Hi Gizmo! This was an interesting video for those of us who aren't familiar with the geography of Florida -- distances between cities and coastlines are significant. Question: are the Florida Keys generally not considered when in-state distances or points of interest are being discussed? Their extent would add significantly to the north-south length of the state.

Hey y'all, I'm a southern belle and live on the coast of NC. I always tell ppl when they visit the beach to inquire about rip currents before they get
in the ocean. The rip currents are very strong and will carry you away from shore and you will drown, another thing, sharks. The ocean is the shark's kitchen and they will eat you if you get in there! Every summer here in NC at least 2 ppl will get bitten by a hungry shark. Those sharks are
NOT looking for humans to eat, buy are encouraged by your movement and think you are food!

I am a former sports talk show host (way back in the 70s...oh, yeah, I am a bit "up there" age wise) and an Atlanta Falcon's fan for 45 years now! And on top of that, I LIVE in New England! (In case you don't know what I am talking about, please see Super Bowl, February 5th, 2017). Oh, sure, I heard all the jokes...like, "What do you call an Atlanta Falcon with a Super Bowl ring???? A thief! Or, how about this one..."What is the difference between the Atlanta Falcons and a dollar bill?" You can still get 4 quarters out of a dollar bill!!!!!!!!! Oh, sure REAL FUNNY! Hey, all kidding aside, yet another GREAT video! You two missed your calling...you should have been geography teachers! And I am writing this on Father's Day...so, Jerry...HAPPY FATHER'S Day! Another enjoyable video :) Although we are not quite ready to relocate as I would like to work another +/- 2 years, with having two weeks of vacation in August and nothing planned I went ahead on the spirit of the moment and booked hubby and I a 6 night lifestyle visit and pretty excited about finally actually experiencing TV. We were assigned an agent, ambassador, camp counselor lol named Michelle who called me Saturday and we hit it off great and talked > 1/2 hour like we knew each other for years. After that with a couple of clicks booked pretty good reasonably priced R/T flights PVD to MCO and rental car with Southwest, and our wonderful cat sitter is free and all set to care for our 3 very spoiled felines. And with never fully unpacking from our February Caribbean cruise pretty much our bags are packed and we are ready to go. But, definitely leaving the check book and rose colored glasses behind as I can be pretty impulsive at times.

You missed Naples... it's beautiful... also Sarasota is beautiful... flowers everywhere...little shops... I was told Sanibel Island beaches were filled with seashells until Katrina...it shifted things and when I went there after Katrina there were no shells anywhere.... I spent some time in Daytona Bch... but when I crossed over to the Gulf we fell in love with the beautiful beaches... the white sandy beaches and the blue/green water... never went back to the other side after that...

You should take your audience on a airboat adventure. Many to choose from in all parts of Florida.
FYI I sunk my airboat in the St Johns River.

Agree! And the “Chain of Lakes” boat tour in Winter Park (Orlando) is a great way to spend an afternoon!

I enjoyed the geography lesson with the map to put things in perspective. I'm trying to locate the shuttle company website mentioned that helps our military service men and women from MCO to The Villages if you have a link. Be safe and healthy.
