My new Nicks Tactical boots vs. my Nicks Urban Drifters

  • I've been wearing Nicks Urban Drifters in British Tan CXL for about a year. I love these boots, but they're pretty rough on my soles. Today I got a pair of Nicks Tactical boots, and boy am I glad I did. These things are unbelievably comfortable right out of the box. The Urban Drifters were murder for the first month or two. I have really wide feet, so I have a hard time buying off the shelf boots that fit, and I'm picky about quality. I'm of the buy once cry once mentality, so I don't buy junk. Go buy a pair of Nicks and you'll see what all the fuss is about.

    Just an update. I went for a 7 mile hike yesterday in the new boots. I only wore them for an hour or so around the house prior to hiking in them. Normally I'd make sure my boots were good and broken in before attempting something like that, but these were so comfortable I gave it a shot. Long story short, they were awesome. No hot spots. No sore feet. No issues whatsoever. Definitely worth the price in my book.

    For you're urban drifters, whenever they're due for a resole you may wanna look into a softer outsole. It helps a ton after the insole is shaped to your foot. My white's ramblers are my most comfortable boot simply because of the 2021 wedgesole

    I received my Tacticals a couple weeks ago after a seven month wait. I was transitioning from Danners to Nicks and had to wear a pair of Assails until my Nicks arrived, totally worth it. I opted for the 8" with the leather collar (because it looks nice) and a composite toe (security guard in a warehouse environment).
    The only problem I had was that I cut my finger from those Bulletproof laces the first time I put these on. The dark grey color of the laces really compliments the boots but I found that the 84" are a bit too long (unless you lace up the last eyelet) so I swapped them out for 72" instead.
    These will probably last me the rest of my life.

      @@user-xb9yn1xm3r They were the Striker EMS, side zip with the composite toe. I wore them for about five years and eventually the zipper on one of them failed but the insides were worn through.
      Nick's are heavier but since they were made to order they fit like a glove. Danner discontinued the Striker and now have the Assail.
      I was looking at an Arcadia but really hate that half leather, half nylon look and for a bit more money I opted for Nick's

    I have a pair of Hot Shots and im on concrete most of the time, so I use the SpencoRx insoles, give you just enough shock absorption that you can do 12+ hour days and your feet not hurting on concrete.

      Unfortunately my feet have so much volume I can't fit inserts into my boots unless they came with removable inserts originally. I tried that with my urban drifters but there wasn't enough room between the top of my foot at the boot

    Wedge soles are great for concrete floors. Thorogoods are the best for me. Go half size from your red wing size

      I have a pair of Thorogood moc toes with wedge soles. The problem I have is that in order for them to fit the width and volume of my foot, they need to be WAY big. I think mine are 10EE and they're still tight and narrow. I have flippers for feet lol.

    If on cement most of the day, use Redwing 604 boots with the supersole 2.0. They have wide widths and wear like slippers. Go to a redwing store and try them on. Your feet will be happy.

    I'm not spending any money anymore on narrow shoes. If the company doesnt offer wide lasts, they aint getting my money, period. Not paying any money for boots that hopefully break in 4 months later but start out with a wrong last.

      @EvanK2EJT  Год назад +1

      Yeah, I'm with you. There are very few boot companies out there that actually have really wide lasts. Nicks is one of the few. Their new Munson last looks pretty awesome too. LOTS of toe room.

    Hey! Great video, definitely appreciate the detail. Can you tell me your size in the urban drifters, the tactical boots, the jim greens, and in your sneaker size? I also have wide feet and would really appreciate the data points as I try to nail down my size. Thank you in advance!

    • @EvanK2EJT
      @EvanK2EJT  Год назад +2

      Absolutely. My Urban Drifters are 9EE. The Tactical Boots are 9F. The Jim Greens are 9.5 (they only come in one width, and they're WIDE). My Vans are 10. I also have Red Wing Iron Rangers in 9.5EE, Thorogood moc toe wedge soles in 9.5EE, and Thorogood American Heritage composite emperor toe boots in 10EE (I always go slightly longer with safety toe boots). They all fit pretty well. I will say that the Thorogood moc toes run narrow, so they're kinda tight, but the rest of them fit my foot quite well. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching.

      Hi Guys,
      Amazing boots and very informative and useful video.Thanks!
      I want to ask you about sizing match between Urban Drifter and Iron Rangers.
      I wear for many years IR size 10.5D and they are like my second skin.Extremely comfortable.I wanted to get E width but it wasn’t available at that time.After braking the lather stretched and it was ok.
      I am thinking to order my Drifters 10.5E as may be the leather will not stretch same like IR and it will be too tight.
      How is your experience?
      Thanks!

    • @EvanK2EJT
      @EvanK2EJT  Год назад +1

      @@soldiers23 Well, my Iron Rangers are 9.5EE, and they fit about the same now as my Urban Drifters in 9EE. They were both pretty snug when I bought them, and now they both fit like gloves. Depending on what leather you get for the Nick's, they may or may not stretch quite as much as the Red Wings did. Mine are in British Tan CXL, and they stretched out considerably from when I first got them. The work leather may not stretch as much, but I'm not sure as the only boots I have with the really heavy Nick's leather are my Tactical Boots, and they're 9F. I will say that the fit is fairly different between the Nick's and the Red Wings when you first get them though. The toe box is shorter and narrower in the Nick's, while the middle of the boot is tighter on the Red Wings. Once they're broken in though, they're both super comfortable.

      Thanks for your very detailed answer.Super useful information.
      I will order 64 all smooth brown 7-8 oz leather.
      If I trust Nick’s sizing guide about the width I am between E and EE, but EE maybe will be too wide for me after the leather gets stretched.
      But if I choose D it will be too tight.Also as you said the toe box of Nick’s is smaller and not spacey as Red Wings.
