  • Perhaps one of the most popular flight schools in the U.S. to earn a single-engine seaplane rating, Jack Brown's Seaplane Base in Winter Haven, Florida, has trained nearly 20,000 pilots. To find out what the draw is all about, "Aviation Consumer" editor Larry Anglisano recently enrolled in Brown's $1,400 SES course and had his cameras rolling to capture the experience.

Ben was an AMAZING instructor! What a gentleman and he was very knowledgeable. Mr Brown also gives great tests.
My experience there was wonderful. 5 Stars for them.

I was down there just a couple weeks prior to this, the ASES course was incredibly fun and challenging, and Ben was a pretty good instructor. If you've been thinking about it, just go do it!

Got my seaplane rating in 1977 at Jack Brown's. Jon Brown did the instructing and the check ride. He even gave my son a couple of hours in the Cub. Since he had just soloed and didn't have a private pilot certificate, he couldn't give him a rating ride. Back then the cost was $150.

+Richard Warner I forgot to add that when you do this, it also counts for a biennial review.

Got my SES rating from Jon Brown in Feb 1984. Immediately bought a LA-200 and had a ball with it! Maybe this year I'll get a refresher there. Haven't flown in 17 years.

Went down there a few years ago to watch a fellow pilot train for the ASES. It was both fun and interesting.
