This is the best rod on the market for the money. It will throw 10oz baits no problem. I throw 1oz lures with it as well but it takes some effort. The 2-10oz rating on this rod is very accurate. I would not recommend the 1-6oz due to the fact that the 2-10oz does everything and then some.
Bought one a year ago for $65 off a fellow angler who didn't use it too much. It's my favorite rod and last week got my personal best Musky on a Super Shad Rap 1-5/8 oz lure. Like it was made for that bait!! Love love it!!
Yeah the Citrix 300 size is a cousin of the Komodo SS 300 size. So its a choice of Brass parts like everyone else uses at a cheap price or Stainless Steel parts for a high price. I've been told the Citrix will break down but I have yet to have any issues. A quick mini review for you!
I always forget to loosen my drag when I store my rods.... It's really not smart with expensive equipment but I just can't seem to remember to do it. I guess I'll learn how to fix drag issues really well. Lol
Awaiting arrival of the 2-6oz tomorrow, 99.9% bass fisherman, getting into larger swimbaits. Paired with a lexa 400 only because I couldn't find a left handed tranx. Tackle warehouse would ship everything in my order to Canada BUT a tranx.
Thanks! To answer your question the reel is still being made by Okuma. This link is what I bought (Amazon Associate link, I may get a commission from anything you buy through it): amzn.to/2weQOP3
As soon as you mentioned a guy with a Hudd breaking his rod I knew it was me lol! Well guess what?! I snapped my XH 2 days ago!!! Same deal- got a bite with the fish in a brush pile-- snap! At least I didn’t lose my Working Class Zero Citizen. Keep in mind, the guide selects I have are the older ones. And yes they do charge for shipping on their warranty- or at least that is what I was told by the customer service rep.I will be sending back BOTH rods this week lol. Hoping this new style in your video will hold up a little better.
And by the way.... it was a Huddleston 68 so it only weighs 2oz. So it’s definitely not overloading the Heavy rod. I threw the 68 on my XH and it was too light for it in my opinion. And if you are familiar with fishing Hudds you can’t swing on a fish like it’s a crankbait- there’s one little jig hook. I’ve caught probably 100+ Hudd fish with no issues until that one- including dragging them out of brush piles. Not really sure what caused either time to snap- only rods I’ve ever broke are these two guide selects. I’ve got a Duckett jig rod I’ve caught 500 fish on in heavy cover still going strong and my dobyns 807 used for hardbaits 2-6oz. Even with these rods snapping I’m willing to keep fishing them because they are good rods for big single hook swimbaits in my opinion.
That is crazy. Mine must be the new style. I got mine stuck in a tree branch in a large moving boat bent completely in half and it didn't break. That was on my two part steam plant fishing video trip but not on film. I was more concerned with saving the rod at that time. I've caught multiple Striped Bass and large Muskie on it too. I abuse my gear pretty bad and have yet to have anything Okuma break. The only issue I've had is my small 30 size Inspira spinning reel starting to grind a little which I am not happy about.
Panfish yea yours is the new model which has a one year warranty. Apparently the older model I have (had) are lifetime but you have to pay $50 each to replace unless you want to send the whole rod in for inspection which would then cost $20 if it passes as a manufacturer defect. So I opted for $50 to just get it replaced ASAP and save on shipping (only sent 6” of rod) to Okuma. I’m excited to get the new style- sounds like it’s a good, solid rod!
So glad I ran across your video. I've been on the fence for a few weeks on whether to get an IRod Genesis swimbait or a Phenix M1 swimbait rod. I've seen the newer Okuma Guide Select but did not have it in consideration...till now. But I'm on the fence with the Guide Select "A" rod for either the 1-6 oz or the 2-10 oz rod. I mostly have swimbaits in the under 4 oz range. What's your call on this? Thank you and awesome catches!
What’s the lightest you would throw on the 2-8 oz rod? I wanna get the 1-6 because I feel like that’s more of the range I would use but at the same time I don’t want a more flimsy rod with a more tip heavy parabolic bend because I wanna be able to use big soft plastics with jig hooks and weedless hooks and be able to get steady hook sets. Idk I’m lost I need help
This rod at any weight is a more stiff rod. I really dont know what rod would work for that style of fishing. I did buy some Okuma DTR custom popping cork rods for skipjacks and schooly striped bass. I think the plastics would not even go over a half ounce.
Like I said I’m not sure. I mainly go for catfish. I use the guide select swim bait sticks for musky or striped bass every now and then. If your talking about something like a bulldog then my rod would work.
nice video with alot of information,,,i bought a komodo 364 a few months ago and i use it more for catfishing now then i do my 6500 abu rockets with 80lb camo braid hehe
I'm thinking about purchasing one of those Okuma Guide Select, but I have some doubts. First one, the biggest swimbait I'm gonna throw is the Deps 175 (3oz) so Im thinking about de "Heavy" 1-6oz rod paired with a Curado K. Do you think I need something bigger, a Cardiff for example?
So I'm pretty new to fishing period, I've got all kinds of stuff built up over the past year and kinda want to get into swimbaits now. If a rod says its rated for say a 3 to 8 oz swimbait. Would it cast a 1 to 1.5oz bait ok or would it be too light?
It could cast it but not well. I have used a Redfin on the rod in this video which is a very lite weight lure. It's a good idea to stay in the middle or lower with the rod rating. 3 to 6 oz bait for the number you mentioned. I have seen people call swimbait rods oversized crankbait rods so keep that in mind when looking around. I just got a Baby Bullshad and will be pairing it with a moderate action MH crankbait rod at some point.
@@TNRVG thank you for the reply, if I may ask one more question jist for clarification. Would you say to pick one end of the spectrum concerning lure weight? Most of the swimbaits I've had some interest in are between 1 and 5 oz
@@TNRVG ah I understand. Also while I have your attention. I am looking to buy one of these Rod but I am only throwing something up to 1 and 3/4 also up to 2 oz. And only targeting largemouth bass. Would it be safe to go with just the heavy action 7'11?
It should be as long as it's not a bulky bait. Some Hudd's are 2 oz but are huge. I have two of these rods now. I just need to get out and do some more Muskie fishing with them (not the best rod for Muskie, too short).

My guy! Great review I was looking at maybe using this for surf fishing Santa Cruz island
They have a new design for these now. I may get them at some point.
Excellent review, 2-4oz max, very helpful! Thank you!

I know I like it!
Nice. What state is that I have one of the first guide rods has a funny cork cap on the butt. It’s a beast. I’m getting the one you got.
I am in Tennessee. It's a great rod!
Panfish I’m in ca. Delta fishing striper and sturgeon. I’m retiring from work and am looking for a place to live that has great game fish. And deer.
Great video and nice catches!
Thanks!
Awesome video brother!!! Great catches!!!

Awesome video man crappie are biting on Melton hill
I need to hit it up quick then! Thanks!
Panfish yeah they are holding real tight to brush and they are real shallow around 3 feet
Time to hit up the waterfall!
Panfish I'm just fishing near Clark center park I've caught several 12 and 14 inchers there
Cool!
Does this road have decent back bone to it? Or is it more a treble hook rod
It is a pretty strong rod. It did great pulling in this 50+ inch Musky: ruclips.net/video/A2MqqDHZt2E/видео.htmlsi=FIU60KR-kXXruhhS

I have been using 50lb braid.

is it a 1 piece or a 2 piece rod?

The bigger Komodo is a big reel! Unless you need all that extra line I would stick to the 300 sized one.
