The one thing Zoo Tycoon 2 has that I absolutely love is an active modding community. With mods in that game you have almost the same if not more creative freedom as Planet Zoo. Granted it doesn't look as good or is as in depth but it's more of the retro and nostalgia that gets me the most when I boot up that game. I have all of the expansion disks but lost the original base game so I haven't been able to go back but when I did have the game and discovered mods my zoos were a sight to behold
I would be happy if someone just updated the graphics on Zoo Tycoon 2 to look as astounding as they could, keep everything else the same. Im really hoping Planet Zoo will let us have that freedom
There was a mod for the extinct animals expansion that made certain animals look like they did for Walking with Beasts, even adding some that were featured on that show that weren’t originally in the expansion
Planet Zoo is literally Zoo Tycoon on steroids. It is everything you could ever want. (Just make sure you have a decent computer to run it.... it can become very demanding on the CPU very quickly) I have a Dell G3 15 which is a base level gaming laptop and it runs it very well on high - ultra settings, until my zoo reaches a certain size/amount of guests. But then I just turn the graphics settings down a bit and its fine.
Zoo Tycoon: I've made two absolutely perfect games in the early 2000's. Now, let's just make a go for our fanbase's money. No one wants anymore zoo management games. Planet Zoo: Hold my animals.
I'm 20, and I still play ZT2, though heavily modded to look better and offer more animals. It's still a great game, and I don't think it will ever stop being great.
Does wildlife park have an option like zt2 where u click zookeeper icon and you can know everything that that animal u want to adopt like what item they like or like to eat???
A lot of legacy games aren't living up to their legacy with the sequals they are putting out. Meanwhile, indie developpers are making these pretty amazing games. Quick examples would be Sims City vs Cities:Skyline, and Roller Coaster Tycoon vs Planet Coaster

I liked the first and second Zoo Tycoon. I didn't even play the third one, but all I can remember was that it looked good, for the time. It's sad that they apparently took away so much from the game. Hopefully one day another Zoo game will come out that offers the same depth as the two Zoo Tycoon games did.
ZT2 was a big part of my childhood. But sadly as a Mac user, I never had the chance to play the versions I actually wanted to play. Growing up as a Mac Kid Sucks. Either way tho, the regular ZT2 version is still good nonetheless
I wish there was a game like Jurassic World: Evolution but with modern day animals. But the goal was to either create a successful ecosystem on a island or a Safari adventure or both.
the first two games were great, albeit the expansions for ZT2's marine life and extinct animals were very lacking when compared to the variety in the past game. Zero Sauropod dinosaurs, not enough whale species or a diverse marine animal variety, we only really had whales and sharks whereas the first game had tuna, octopus and humpbacks. The biggest improvement from the first to second game was that the animals were easier to keep happy. I could never get a T rex or the Markhors to be happy in the first game. but keeping animals happier in the second was easy. the 3rd "game" wasn't worth buying at all, i saw it at a walmart once, looked at the back and just left it alone, mostly because i didn't own an Xbox either, it's a crappy system anyways
I dunno, T.Rex was alright once you did the research to keep it happy, and I was even able to do a mixed Markhor/Ibex exhibit once. Snow Leopards and Mountain Lions were always the hard ones for me
I liked the mini games from marine mania and extinct animals, albeit I was quite young at the time so such things may be boring for me now. I remember I had a lot of fun with making large safari exhibits.
Yeah they are not really fun or challenging or anything when yo are older. Whatever you do, don't ruin those rose colored glasses, lol@@elijahpacheco7318
I’ve been playing Zoo Tycoon and ZT2 since 2003. I 1000% would still sink hours into building a complex and creative zoo using these games. Planet Zoo is the Zoo Tycoon 3 that Microsoft missed out on.
I find that there is way to much customization and the building system really makes it seem like you will never be able to use it to it’s fullest potential. I’ve tried to get into it but I just find zoo tycoon 2 way more enjoyable. And no it’s not nostalgia I was born in 2010.
Zoo tycoon 1 and 2 was one of my favorite games growing up. I was so disappointed with the last zoo tycoon. It’s like a modular generic game. The animals are cute though. But the variety is so low, why would you want 8 types of caiman in your zoo? I would prefer to have 8 different species. Planet zoo is everything i could have hoped for in a zoo game. I love it. It’s so detailed and in depth.
Zoo tycoon 2 with mod was the best zoo simulation ever..2017 zoo tycoon is trash..they had to do something...I hope zoo tycoon 2 with some graphic & features upgrade produce zoo tycoon 3..
I'm trying not to get too hyped, but it is hard. Frontier has made a good record for themselves since the 2013 Zoo Tycoon (which was mostly because Microsoft gave them so little freedom)@@hallrez6648
I think that was the most nostalgic thing I've ever seen in my life. The original Zoo Tycoon was the first game I've ever played on PC and I loved it so much
I can say definitively that, at least in the case of Zoo Tycoon 2, it's not just for kids. My Mom and I used to have a blast playing it when I was younger, and we both still like to build zoos from time to time. We had all the expansion packs, but somehow lost some of them so about a year ago we bought the entire pack digitally on Amazon for both of our laptops. It's crazy how you can buy it that easily for like $20 now considering when I was growing up, we had to buy expansions case by case over the course of months for like $30 each. XD
The new one is trash honestly. They focused way to much on looks, rather than having good game play with personal customization and they took out the business management side of the game. Both of which made zoo tycoon popular. The new "planet zoo" on steam is pretty good, its still nothing compared to zoo tycoon one and two tho. I guess its the best we are gonna get.
Zoo Tycoon 2 is my absolute favourite game of all time. Thankfully it has an amazing modding community which has kept it alive for all these years. Planet Zoo looks like a worthy successor, but I'll still have a spot for ZT2.
I loved Zoo Tycoon & RollaCoaster Tycoon. Both the first ones. 2 was really good. When it got to the 3rd one it wasn’t the same ☹️🤦♂️ not as good as the other two games.
I miss the og zoo tycoon... was one of my favorites as a kid. I'd love to try zoo tycoon 2, but the only digital download I can find is on amazon, and a lot of people are complaining about not being able to install or launch the game... :c the nostalgia is real.
I mean, you can have fun with it, but it has so many flaws, like you can't even make your own exhbits which was one of the best things in the old games.
I played one and two. The Zoo Tycoon with the Koala on the front (#2)slaps hard. I loved that version for the graphics, the thought put into it, the ability to do everything you could do and how easy it was to just have fun.
Oh man, I am 28, watching this video after so many years made me feel nostalgic. I used to play this game, the 1st version on my laggy P3 or P4 cpu with a old skool CRT monitor. It use to crash a lot but still managed to play. Not sure if there are any such zoo games available these days but this game was the OG.
I know it wasn't huge, but for me what really kept me invested in the Zoo Tycoon games was the modding community (though it wasn't called that at the time). I remember clearly having about 3 fan made expansion packs, as well as a huge host of individually made animals, foliage, and various items which allowed for hundred of animals and huge amounts of new areas to fill the zoo with. I'm really hoping Planet Zoo allows for mods, but also that its generally more similar to Zoo Tycoon, and less like Zoo Tycoon (or Jurassic World Evolution).
Thank you for a very well thought out response to this game. It was my favorite because of the architectural creativity freedom. Few games were like that the sims2 series was great and the castaway sims was fun also. Big fan of these types of games. I believe after going through this period we have lost the creativity due to corporate greed. They entice you to play these games in order for you to get to a point where you have to spend money to have anything really cool. The closet experience I have had, since all those games, which can no longer be played on the new computers, is Sims FreePlay but if you compare that to the Zoo Tycoon game or Sims2 We have lost our unlimited creativity . And without that, these games fall very short to what we had. As sick as Zoo tycoon was, you drop a person in the shark tank or feed people to the dinosaurs, it doesn’t get more fun than that. I also believe that they discontinued the game for that very reason. We can only hope they wake up and release an app or Xbox game that goes back to the three pack Zoo Tycoon, Marine Mania and Dinosaurs pack. I miss these games so much. Thank you for your video.
Funny this video be recommended for me, I was just trying to make a pirate download of the ultimate edition of Zoo Tycoon 2, unfortunately I couldn't, that game was my childhood.
I had all of those games! Dinosaur Digs an Marine Mania were awesome!! Soo many hours were spent as a kid. Now I have Planet Zoo, been plying that beta. It's amazing & challenging cant wait for the full version!
This is a great video! But I think it’s funny that for the part where your explaining how great it was to make a huge zoo your showing the smallest map in Zoo Tycoon
Thanks for the video. I was feeling very nostalgic and wanted an original Zoo Tycoon style experience and was considering buying it for steam. But thanks to your video I know I won't find what I am looking for there.
This is interesting. I always played the computer versions and they apparently were very different than on a game box. The original Zoo Tycoon seems to have been the same, but the rest changed drastically. They eventually took away a bunch of the animals, plants, buildings, etc in the computer version. And there were never any pre-built enclosures and such. I'm hoping Planet Zoo will be good.
I remember Zoo Tycoon 2. I enjoyed creating zoos and all, but I LOVED crafting my own stories by building mountains and forests to mimic the natural wilderness. I recall a story I told through a wolf pack in the mountains and forests I built in the selected campaign locations; I created my own streams and rivers, and made one wolf (Good) fight another (Bad) wolf, and took their fight to a tall waterfall for an epic finale...That game was fun. Hopefully I can do the same with Planet Zoo!
I was a roller coaster tycoon man myself but the points you made work for both in my opinion. They tried a RCT reboot a few years ago and it was way more simple like you said. The only thing u could edit was the coasters and they even messed that up by not allowing to wild coasters or you couldnt do the ol coaster half finished grand opening. Less items to place in game and soooo many other things sucked. Only good thing was you could ride your coasters but compared to other games that did that it pailed in comparison. A youtuber i watched said all reboots and revivals suck. Only a handful have had the ability to press on.

I have all of the expansion disks but lost the original base game so I haven't been able to go back but when I did have the game and discovered mods my zoos were a sight to behold
Zoo tycoon 2 was the best! It was possible to build your individual Zoo😪
Fiona
Have you heard of Planet Zoo?
@@WRPBullet Yes, i hope it's better at this point
@@Mira3.0 Oh it will be. And I'm almost never convinced a game will be 100% good
If you find Zoo tycoon 2 was the best when it becomes boring try to add some mods like Radical Remake
@@HondaBrandy my computer can hardly run normal graphics and i still love it despite all the lag
I would be happy if someone just updated the graphics on Zoo Tycoon 2 to look as astounding as they could, keep everything else the same. Im really hoping Planet Zoo will let us have that freedom
They did. Radical remake remade a TON of animals plus, sites like zootycoontheroundtable has even more
There was a mod for the extinct animals expansion that made certain animals look like they did for Walking with Beasts, even adding some that were featured on that show that weren’t originally in the expansion
Zoo Tycoon 2 has a ton of mods and remakes you can download and it’s great. I feel like Planet Zoo is the successor to Zoo Tycoon 2
Nah I didn't worry about money in the first zoo tycoon. I just pressed shift+4😂
Zoo Tycoon: I've made two absolutely perfect games in the early 2000's. Now, let's just make a go for our fanbase's money. No one wants anymore zoo management games.
Planet Zoo: Hold my animals.
I bought this thinking it was a real zoo tycoon game. I want my money back
same here but it will do for me for time being i am having some fun with it but it isnt as good as Zoo tycoon itself is it
@@nickda1 Just wait till Planet Zoo comes out. It will hopefully be great.
@@donaldbaird7849 I'm sure it will I love planet coaster
SAME!! Seriously its not worth the 20 dollars my mom spent it should be 5$
@@donaldbaird7849 It really is what Zoo tycoon really is about but it 45$ on steam which sucks when your family is low on money
I'm 20, and I still play ZT2, though heavily modded to look better and offer more animals. It's still a great game, and I don't think it will ever stop being great.
I still play Zoo Tycoon 2 every now and then, even after 12 years. It's really relaxing and comforting to me.
I have Zoo Tycoon 2 on my current computer. I've had the game since elementary school (I'm 25 now)
I had it since i was 4
Everybody: *played Zoo Tycoon as kids*
Me: *only one that played Wildlife Park 2*
Does wildlife park have an option like zt2 where u click zookeeper icon and you can know everything that that animal u want to adopt like what item they like or like to eat???
I actually played WP2, I didn't have as much fun as in ZT2
These games were my childhood, I wish they would be remastered for platform
A lot of legacy games aren't living up to their legacy with the sequals they are putting out. Meanwhile, indie developpers are making these pretty amazing games. Quick examples would be Sims City vs Cities:Skyline, and Roller Coaster Tycoon vs Planet Coaster
Jurassic park operation genesis was a really fun game
I always wanted that game when I was a kid. Then when I got older I found out people were selling the game for hundreds of dollars. So, I guess I'll still never play it.
@@Iceman99255 i had learned about it and tried to buy it but realized it was being sold for hundreds of dollars but then i found this website and downloaded it for free i would give you the link but to this day i still cant find the website
@@Iceman99255 You can try Pirate Bay - there's about a dozen options. Only problem, Operation Genesis was a lot more fun as a kid than it is now.
Bullshit that game was also never released on mobile😡😡
@@zermikmobilelegend6639I think flip phones only existed when the game released
I'm 25 years old and I would pay a lot of money just to be able to play a Zoo Tycoon 1 Remaster so I can relive my childhood
Well any way that trash game (zoo tycoon Xbox) will be forgotten soon because planet zoo is coming up it's like planet coaster but a zoo and from the trailer you can do all the stuff like you can do in zoo tycoon 2 (a really legendary game) just with a modern touch also the realism is expanded as the animals have there Latin names as well thanks this subjuect really needed to be talked about any way have a good day bye
Hey guys a mordern kid here i heard of planet zoo and bouthg it in january 2020, and then i seen Zoo Tycoon 2017 and was also amazed and bauthg it in 2 months and i know some of you did play the original games and hate this one but to me this game and palnet zoo are gold to me even to this day its just my personal opionion.
I liked the first and second Zoo Tycoon. I didn't even play the third one, but all I can remember was that it looked good, for the time. It's sad that they apparently took away so much from the game. Hopefully one day another Zoo game will come out that offers the same depth as the two Zoo Tycoon games did.
Im over 30 years old, and I still come back to Zoo Tycoon 2 from time to time. Likely tonight
The best Tycoon game ever
ZT : Yes
ZT2 : YEEEES
ZT3 : 😐😑😐 are you kidding me ? THIS IS AN UNACCEPTABLE DECEPTION
ZT2 was a big part of my childhood.
But sadly as a Mac user, I never had the chance to play the versions I actually wanted to play.
Growing up as a Mac Kid Sucks.
Either way tho, the regular ZT2 version is still good nonetheless
Those were the days i remember loving releasing my dinos on people and also drowning visitors
The original zoo tycoon was my jam. I absolutely loved all the zoo tycoon games and clones.
As someone who has played zoo tycoon for 11 years, i'm quite looking forward to planet zoo
Zoo Tycoon 1 was the first video game I ever played
I *loved* the first two "Zoo Tycoon" games as a kid! And after looking at this, I'm kind of glad I never got around to playing the Xbox One version.
I wish there was a game like Jurassic World: Evolution but with modern day animals. But the goal was to either create a successful ecosystem on a island or a Safari adventure or both.
Coincidentally, ZT 2017 and Planet Zoo are both by Frontier. Guess the problem really was Microsoft.
Microsoft was also responsible for the 2 first ZT games, maybe they learnt with their mistakes from the 2013 game.
Thanks for taking the time to make this.
I still play the original zoo tycoon
I still prefer ZT2 to PZ. Planet Zoo can be really frustrating
I remember making animals kill the unsatisfied guests when i was 4 XD
The thing is that I dislike about Planet Zoo is that it has no marine animals.
Yeah I think that has something to do with the swimming mechanics hopefully sometime in the future
the first two games were great, albeit the expansions for ZT2's marine life and extinct animals were very lacking when compared to the variety in the past game.
Between Zoo Tycoon 1 and 2, wich do you like the most?
Razor X Hm that’s a hard one. Probably zt2 due to all the 3D things you could do-more user friendly. But I LOVED unleashing Dino’s in Zt1.
Once you Planet Zoo you can't go back.
I find that there is way to much customization and the building system really makes it seem like you will never be able to use it to it’s fullest potential. I’ve tried to get into it but I just find zoo tycoon 2 way more enjoyable. And no it’s not nostalgia I was born in 2010.
To this day I still play ZT2 and I have been playing it for years. Honestly you can never replace a classic.
If me and my siblings were mad at each other, we would go release all the animals in the others zoos and cause chaos 😂
a video about Zootycoon?
Like before even watching the video for nostalgia
planet zoo the hero we did not deserve
but the hero we needed
Zoo tycoon 2 with mod was the best zoo simulation ever..2017 zoo tycoon is trash..they had to do something...I hope zoo tycoon 2 with some graphic & features upgrade produce zoo tycoon 3..
And here we are with Planet Zoo being announced
@@saurillian yeah..I had watch the trailer...looks great
I'm trying not to get too hyped, but it is hard. Frontier has made a good record for themselves since the 2013 Zoo Tycoon (which was mostly because Microsoft gave them so little freedom)@@hallrez6648
Well zoo tycoon 3 has been anoued by the name of planet zoo by fontier
I think that was the most nostalgic thing I've ever seen in my life. The original Zoo Tycoon was the first game I've ever played on PC and I loved it so much
There was this one girl I admired who introduced me to the good Zoo Tycoon, and she completely changed my life. I will forever be grateful.
Man complete collection doesn't get old to me. Started playing it again a few weeks ago and just learned it has various easter eggs/cheats.
The original zoo tycoon come with the natural disaster
The most recent version was my first go with the franchise - and I uninstalled it within 30 mins 🤣
Look how they massacred my boy
I used to play Zoo Tycoon 2 and I miss the game a lot.
Zoo Tycoon 2 is my absolute favourite game of all time. Thankfully it has an amazing modding community which has kept it alive for all these years. Planet Zoo looks like a worthy successor, but I'll still have a spot for ZT2.
I still play ZT2 to this day. I never quite get bored with it. But I'm looking forward to Planet Zoo!
the nostalgia is real.
i fee attacked. 24 and playing the new one with my sister everday xD
I mean, you can have fun with it, but it has so many flaws, like you can't even make your own exhbits which was one of the best things in the old games.
wow this video was really well thought out, thank you!
Any Planet Zoo GUYS ??
I played one and two. The Zoo Tycoon with the Koala on the front (#2)slaps hard. I loved that version for the graphics, the thought put into it, the ability to do everything you could do and how easy it was to just have fun.
When I was a little kid, I‘ve played Zoo Tycoon 2 and I loved it! The new Zoo Tycoon is trash
Same here. Zoo tycoon 2 captivated me as a child and I would play it all night
It has been over a year. Is Planet Zoo worthy?
I used to play that game when I was a kid a watch people get violated by the animals and dinosaurs 🦕 🦖🦈🐅

Oh man, I am 28, watching this video after so many years made me feel nostalgic. I used to play this game, the 1st version on my laggy P3 or P4 cpu with a old skool CRT monitor.
It use to crash a lot but still managed to play.
Not sure if there are any such zoo games available these days but this game was the OG.
releases video about the zoo sim genre right before Planet Zoo is announced
que the sad music
Once RCT became successful nearly every publisher tried to launch a tycoon game figuring that just the presence of the word in the title would sell.
I mean, tycoon is a very fun genre if done right.
Funny this video be recommended for me, I was just trying to make a pirate download of the ultimate edition of Zoo Tycoon 2, unfortunately I couldn't, that game was my childhood.
Maaaaan this game was my childhood ❤ i'm glad RUclips brought me here
I loved placing complaining guests in my shark tank or predator cages
I had all of those games! Dinosaur Digs an Marine Mania were awesome!! Soo many hours were spent as a kid. Now I have Planet Zoo, been plying that beta. It's amazing & challenging cant wait for the full version!
This is a great video! But I think it’s funny that for the part where your explaining how great it was to make a huge zoo your showing the smallest map in Zoo Tycoon
You should play jurasic world evolution 2
Thanks for the video. I was feeling very nostalgic and wanted an original Zoo Tycoon style experience and was considering buying it for steam. But thanks to your video I know I won't find what I am looking for there.
And now we have planet zoo :)
Now with modding it makes zoo even more better like new animals, dinos, plus fantasy alien creatures and new decorations
MEMORIES !! :')
ZT2 was my first PC video game (but it wasn't the complete collection, it was the first)
Fast Forward to 2019 and we'll get planet zoo ;) looks like that one will be more up your alley, I'm for once really looking forward to this, while playing planet coaster in the meantime 😁
I agree 100%! I have all 3 versions of the game and ZT2 is still my fave. I'm 26 and I spent $600 on a new laptop just so I can play it. I havent thought about the 3rd installment in years...
Lmao, 17 and did something the same, ultimate collections + tons of downloads
Dude I’ve been looking for my zoo tycoon 2 for a week now and can’t find it, and when I do I fully plan to play it for at least seventy five hours consecutively
I like all the Zoo Tycoon games yes even the xbox
Zoo Tycoon: AWESOME!!!
Zoo Tycoon was the first pc game I ever owned (being 1 of 5 that's a big deal). I just found my expansion disc for Marine Mania and Dino Digs and am installing it so I can start building a banger zoo again. This is my favorite and as long as the disc runs on my computers I will play it.
I just hope planet zoo will bring me back to my childhood when the only game that I would play was zoo tycoon 2. I’m really looking forward to it.
