This doesn't feel like science fiction anymore...
You are so right, my friend!
We have been living the reality of this film for 30 years
It's going on right now this in Russia, North Korea and China.
Even though some things from 1984 are happening in our reality i think we are much closer to huxleys brave new world
@@garyturner5739 and the USA, Germany, Australis....
If you have a mobile phone big brother is watching.
True.. that is why I whisper strange tales of horror in the houses of parliament into the phone. ⚔️

They’re using technology to control us and what they are not telling us is that AI will be the ones that will destroy humanity.
A Cautionary Tale we failed to heed.
Are you in Russia too?
Edmond O'Brien and Jan Sterling were such great actors.
I could have used an "I love you" note from a babe like that. Hey, fella I like the cut of your jib. But hey, it's a movie. Funny how chaste it was for 1956.
1984 was a warning, not a how-to
A small indicator of Orwells purpose is suggested by the fact that he 'died' early aged 46. whilst he died from tuberculosis, I think it quite possible that thtat was accelerated by the police state via stress and other invisible mechanisms. In short, big brother knocked him off.
This is reality.....Try opening a New bank account.. Questions .. What is your income.....What is your expenditure... Do you own your own house...Are you married...and so on ..BIG BROTHER IS HERE
Banks are businesses, money is the product they trade on, as it has been for centuries, way before most current countries and technologies existed. They will not risk losing their capital on people who most likely won't be able to repay their loans or pay for their services. Also, they must be certain the money you put in them comes from legit sources and not from criminal activity.
If where you live there is a state/national bank, they usually have less entry barriers than private banks.
Also, be glad they made you a lot of questions. If they did not make any questions and had ways to know everything about your money, and also your personal life, *THEN* you will be in a Big Brother situation.
Very scary but not as bad as the book. What sadness there is in our world today, and all predicted.
Make 1984 fiction again!
1984 is not sci fi. The book is set in 1948 in a London after the war. Big Brother is based on a series of posters advertising postal education courses. London was full of posters saying Let me be your big brother/ sister etc. Room 101 was at the BBC where Orwell worked.
Exactly the scene for William Blake's finest predictive metaphor. I hope that you will the film is still relevant
Interesting production details, if true. Will check it out in any case.
Thought it was set in 1984 after a 1965 nuclear war of totalitarian regimes. Except the Oceania guys are nicer than they would be. Still relevant.
This 1956 film was made in the year of my birth. Just watched it and it really is powerful, I prefer it to the John Hurt version, the black and white print really helps set the dystopian atmosphere.
I survived 1984 and enjoy the privilege of being old now.
its still 1984
I think the pun was 1948, not 1984
I survived 1984, Y2K, 911 and 2020. What other numbers will we have to survive😅
@@duanehirini2078 2024.
Somehow, we made it through.
Big brother has been here for quite some time. Phones, tracking your every move, your conversations, KEY WORDS. Did you stop to think, and your thoughts magically appear in and music suggestions, food, automobiles. The youth have been conditioned, the old will soon die, the dissenters will be silenced
Anyone considered why people, helped by the BBC, have.been pushing for Assisted Killing to be made legal for some time now?
Oppressed society, but you could still smoke inside pubs.
No children in them, and could probably still get a pint at a reasonable price ‘n’all.
Long live Big Brother! 🎉
The way they kept the ‘plebs’ happy was a constant supply of cheap booze, cheap cigarettes and cheap drugs. I don’t think Big Brother was concerned about the health issues. 🤓
Orwell’s & Koestler’s writings
are REALITY with anticipated but not unreal characters.
That’s they are ourselves.
Reality then and reality now.
2024 and this film is more relevant today than ever before..
Uk is a lapdog to superpowers as the superpowers slide from power. Control of the people has become the norm. I work in London so I spend most of the day under some sort of surveillance. At work I am operative 20000037. Very few if anyone I work with will know my name. ..
It's sad
Is that '37' for short?
We're closer to this than a lot of people realize, this next election COULD possibly be the tipping point.
This and Idiocracy have turned into documentaries
The version with John Hurt was so depressing.
Notice that one is very hard to get - I had to order it on DVD - and did find it later on Bit Chute - but my guess is that it is 'taken down' pretty quickly (on YT)- and yes - "Boots on the face forever" - it is supposed to be depressing to motivate us in some way
The late Peter Cushing does a good one .
Mankind is just hellbent on war, sorry to say.
Psychopaths are. They're non-human🫡
It is the nature of the beast...
_"War is the father of all things, and the king of all."_

Sadly accurate.
Mankind is not bent on war although I understand what you mean. Mankind is controlled by forces that hide in the shadows and they are bent on war. It just so happens that most people seem to believe what they are told by strangers and they follow orders.
No one needs to watch this...we are living it
so true but it is so covert & subtle that it is difficult for programmed & indoctrinated people to see it right in front of their face.
Oh BS.
At 33:45, Julia says, "If you keep the big rules, it's safe to break the little ones". The novel has Julia saying, "If you keep the little rules, you can break the big ones." Orwell's Julia has it right. The big rule is not to form any relationships that the Party cannot control, the rule that Winston and Julia are clearly breaking.
If you're gonna be a outlaw, you can't break any laws.
Man i knew the comments would be a gongshow. I am not disappointed.
I find it interesting that Donald Pleasence is in the 1956 movie and the 1954 BBC televised broadcast based on the Orwell book.
Watching in 2024 thanks to Thought Police alfgoristm. More relevant than ever.

George Orwell completed his novel in 1948 and decided to use the title "1984" (48/84), which is a play on the year the book was written. The choice of 1984 was not intended to be an exact prediction, but rather a representation of a possible dystopian future. In addition to "1984," Orwell also penned "Animal Farm," a political allegory in which the famous quote "some animals are more equal than others" highlights the dangers of power inequality and corruption.

Pretty good, but it doesn't really capture the dystopian atmosphere of the novel.
The 1984 version (lol) did a mutch better job.

The premise was correct just wrong with the year.
We're closer in 2024 than we were in 1984. Just look 40yrs later and America is almost unrecognizable.
No error was made. Read it again.
good job orwell isn't alive to see this
I’m not so sure of that: Orwell survived both Fascists as well as Stalinists while being in a Trotskyist militia during the Spanish Civil War. He knew what was coming from personal experience.
A decent version, but with American actor's, someone please upload the 1954 BBC TV version, starring Peter Cushing,I'd love to see it.
Wow! Thank you for this!!❤
Not any more sci - fi... Pure reality today.... unfortunatelly
How long before this book is banned, or has a warning added to it?
They've already tried to change it, rewrite it like10 years ago. Where have you been ? Keep your hard copies, Dictionarys and references books too !
George Orwell, influenced by the looming threats of Nazi and Communist expansion during his time, wrote dystopian novels that served as cautionary tales of what could transpire in the future should the geopolitical climate continue on its trajectory. These works were Orwell's attempt at projecting possible outcomes in a world dominated by totalitarian regimes, particularly emphasizing the dangers of widespread surveillance and the erosion of individual liberties.
Now this is a True Horror story........🎸♥️

This is the first time, that I can remember seeing this version (released 1956), but saw the version released in 1984.
I was expecting him to say, "you haven't betrayed Julia... yet"
He was released without a badge?
Jan Sterling is so adorable in this movie....
the best version
I will always wonder if this was a sort of “planned thing,” that we watch and literally manifest (and bring into existence), due to the movie planting idea in viewer’s mind. OR, it was an obvious path that most intellectuals could predict if you just… idk, think for FIVE SECONDS. 🤷♂

Nice to see the Book was make into an instruction video for the Federal Government, Facebook, and Google. You can never be too careful when on the hunt for traitors to *the message*
George Orwell didn't intend the book to be an instruction manual. But it did.

Wonder why the name changes for O'Brien and Goldstein...
In the book Goldstein is supposed to be a substitute for
Leon Trotsky. Big Brother is supposed to be Josef Stalin
Edmond O'Brien died on May 9, 1985, at St. Erne's Sanitorium in Inglewood, California, of complications from Alzheimer's disease at age 69.
Maybe the future will be like that, but AI will control this world.
It was an excellent film for its day, a shocker, but Edmond O'Brian was miscast, IMO. They needed a skinnier version of Winston, someone like Peter Cushing--who had starred in the BBC version--to make the part better. I liked Edmond O'Brian, but not in this role. Jan Sterling was fine.
The most recent version with the late Richard Burton as O'Brien--and he was terrifyingly good in the role--is probably the definitive version, IMO.
Burton was perfect as O'Brien
It's Edmond O'Brien with an 'E'. That's why the character's name was changed to O'Connor in this version.

The gullibility of intelligent people depicted by Orwell seemed implausible when I first read this book as a 1960's teenager. Yet today, I see that gullibility fully realised in their bizarre delusions about gender, race, history and politics. Today, academics and politicians alike can - and do - turn logic on its head...
