Lorelei is a good friend & I live about 8 miles from her shop. I think her book is the best beginner book I have read & the color pictures really make it stand out. While I said this is the best beginner book any smith would learn from reading it. Lorelei has a new series of booklets called Organic Metalworking. This is on forging things from nature.
I love Lorelei simms' book, I bought it years and years ago. I also have the complete bladesmith by Jim hrisoulas, which is an excellent resource for getting into knifemaking
Awesome. Thanks for sharing your fav books!
You should write a book! I would buy it and I would read it intensely in school. You could do epic tutorials on pokers, bowls, roses and so much more amazing content!
Joe DeLarond's book also covers a lot of different techniques and explains things in terms tha you don't need to already be an experienced blacksmith to understand.
Im learning disabled and never really stuck with anything and it's driving me nuts I need a hobby I live with my parents for the time being but I've looked into it I bought the blacksmiths craft cant wait to read into it more and see if it's actually something I could get into
Duncan here, I enjoyed "The Complete Modern Blacksmith" by Alexander G. Weygers. This is three of his books in one volume, lots of information !
+Duncan MacTavish yeah it is a very nice book! Thank you for watching
Great advice about branching out of youtube for additional information. The few books I have are; "The Complete Modern Blacksmith" by Alexander G. Weygers, "The Art of Blacksmithing" by Alex Bealer, "Practical Blacksmithing: The Original Classic in One Volume" by M.T. Richardson and Dona Z. Meilachand , and "The Backyard Blacksmith" by Lorelei Sims
I have the backyard black smith by Lorelei Simms, excellent read for sure! I'm kind of a watch and take notes, book reader type of smith, I also watch various videos from the club library as well, alot of the are videos from UMBA (Upper Midwest Blacksmiths Association) I think they stiil have a website for them
Great information in the reading materials. One possible topic that I would find helpful is what types/ size of basic metal stock do you keep on hand?
Glad you liked the vid. I'll make note of your topic as a possible video :)
Great video and information, cheers matey.
Thanks Paul. Have a blessed day
Ms. Simms has a second book out and it is also very good.
Books I recommend are: Manuel of Blacksmithing by John R. Smith (Lindsay Publications); American Blacksmithing by Holstrom and Holford (published by Greenwich House); Basic Blacksmithing by David Harries and Bernhard Heer (www.itdgpublishing.org.uk); Practical Projects for the Blacksmith by Ted Tucker (Rodale Press) and Practical Blacksmithing (four volumes in one) by M. T. Richardson (Crown Publishers, Inc. , Weathervane Books).
can I get them on audible?
I'll look into it
I'm not sure. Some are available for download, such as on Kindle.
