Fun Fact... This album was actually Act i, initially, and Renaissance was meant as Act ii. Due to the pandemic, Bey decided to hold off on putting this one out. Once the shutdowns ended and we were able to get "back outside" she and her team decided that RENAISSANCE should go out first - because it was what the world needed. Dance, free expression, fun and partying. So this county genre-blend album has just been sitting for a few years and was supposed to be the FIRST album release, which is WILD when you consider it.
I think the later half of the album leaning towards more Renaissance vibes is because Cowboy Carter was supposed to be released first! Like the transition from Amen into I’m That Girl are damn near flawless!
Truly I think this too, a good chunk of the track list couldn’t easily be mixed in with a couple renaissance songs. Definitely with American requiem and in that girl, but we still have act 3 to look forward to, and I hope by then I have the money to go see her perform live 😭💔
The backlash is hypocrisy….. That’s like telling Tina Turner because she was making a certain genre with Ike, she could never make Private Dancer…. History was made and she was rock n roll.
I enjoyed Cowboy Carter, and understand that while it has many Country references, it's not faithfully or conventionally Country. It's loudly rebelling against categorisation and genre convention in many places, and I think that was the intention. The album ended up being a commentary on genre itself, with clear a didactic purpose to "bury old ideas" and encourage the listener to question and critique genre, and ultimately recognise how imperceptible genre becomes once you dare to toy with its conventions. I will say there are a lot of Country Purists who dismiss the majority of Country radio today. Then you have plenty of Country acts who struggled to be embraced by Country radio, Kacey Musgraves was one of those artists, so was Zach Bryan, so was Tyler Childers etc.
The dog whistling from critics made me seriously underestimate this album. But after listening to it, it’s crazy good. She deserves her flowers for being one of the most daring and incredible artists of our generation
Cowboy carter is most definitely her best work! Its just unlike anything that weve heard before this had me second guess Renaissance for a while. The album is so rich in storytelling with sounds of traditional , modern ,and alternate country, but at the same time this is a beyonce albums!! This is how music is supposed to feel. Im just in complete awe of this body of work im so scared for ACT III.
I'm not that big of a Beyonce fan, but you absolutely cannot deny this woman's artistry. Cowboy Carter is an absolutely beautiful album from top to bottom that made me want to go back and listen to the rest of her discography.
If beyonce, and miley dont win best country duo/ group performance at the grammys for the song 2 most wanted next year im gonna be very upset about it lol.
Thank god im not the only one who love Bodyguard it might be the next cuff it plus summer is around the corner it feel like a summer beach tune such a vibe it deserves to be a single.
Daughter is the best track imo also the paino part is fur Elise alot of old western music would do interpolation of classical. It's such an amazing song felt so stagy. The opera bit was pretty incredible too.
Real fact, Black people originated blues that is the predecessor to what we called country music. So what's the big deal about Beyonce going country? #LeaveBeyonceAlone
True. But I do think it's okay to critique something u don't like as long as you aren't being racist. For example I don't enjoy beyonces country music because I've never really liked country music .
I tried to text Beyonce team to release a opera album before this one came out.😂 Im so happy for this one song. I can relate although I did not kill anyone. Being a fathers daughter of a sinful man is hard.

I always love your interesting commentary backed with facts checking/ researching ❤ The fact that people still don’t understand or undermine her mix of artistry is baffling because its literally so obvious. She’s just in her own lane we see so many artists do exactly that but not get the same backlash she gets. And i hate to even say this but her being a successful black woman worldwide is something they hate to see. She more than earned her place time and time again whether you’re a fan or not you can’t deny that❤
