    • @dragon12234
      @dragon12234 9 месяцев назад +140

      Makes sense. In English the word pub comes from "Public House" and essentially came to be as medieval housewives sold their excess homebrewed ale. Make it a proper business and add wine and cider and such to the menu, and you met what was the definition of a tavern back then. (Add places to sleep and a bigger emphasis on food and you got an Inn)

      FYI I get the same vibe when listening to Norwegian or Danish since the Swedish language is fairly similar to theirs and vice versa. The only reason I find Welsh to be notable enough to mention is because I in fact can not understand what it says. Their pronunciations are similar enough to make me believe I’m listening to Swedish or otherwise which I find to be kinda neat but it does throw my head for a loop the moment I try to understand what’s being said because although it sounds so similar it’s not a language I understand.
      My comment was not designed to shame children into not speaking it, it was designed to highlight the fact that it throws my head in a loop, quite extremely so while also keeping a mild humorous tone with rather clear exaggerations though I suppose everyone has different type of humour and tone is quite hard to transfer over text but I shall not apologize because as far as I’m concerned I did nothing wrong.
      Additionally I truly don’t care what an author has to say about a language. Far as I’m concerned it adds nothing to your argument outside of being a cool little fact on the side which I admittedly enjoy.

    The language is so weird. Feels like an amalgamation of english, it's own thing, and then the nordic languages. Like, as a Dane there was a surprising amount of words that I sort of understood cause they just sounded like the welsh version of our language

    • @rhysjones1885

      Welsh came before English.

    • @Beanboiwolf
      @Beanboiwolf 9 месяцев назад

      The only reason it has some English words is because words like "japan" "million" "youtube" don't have direct translations in welsh so this was kind of a poor example of like a pure Welsh conversation if that makes sense it is also older than English

    • @T0NI_
      @T0NI_ 9 месяцев назад

      @@Beanboiwolf it being older than English doesn’t actually really matter. Languages change over time, and being in such close proximity to the English, who love nothing more than forcing their culture and language upon others, I would imagine it has been influenced to some degree by them.
      And yeah I didn’t actually mean the words like RUclips and such, I know those aren’t actually part of the language. Meant more like the Welsh version of “pub” apparently being “tavern”

    • @Beanboiwolf
      @Beanboiwolf 9 месяцев назад

      @@T0NI_ That is more than likely actually given from Latin Taberna which would have been introduced by the romans, you are correct languages can be changed and affected by other languages but overall welsh has kept pretty decently considering the English tried to destroy it completely it stayed pretty much its own thing because of how different it actually is from English
      it's like saying Japanese has been effected by English because they have adapted words like the word for orange and such and its the same for scottish Gaelic , Manx and or Cornish!
      Not saying they have not been affected at all but as far as language goes being the old kid on the block is important literally like that tavern example welsh were using it first because English didn't exist at the time so it's much more that English is using bits and pieces from other languages around us which is literally the case it takes bits and pieces from scottish gaelic aswell what we sing at new years old anzine is literally a scottish gaelic tradition we adopted.

    • @WalesTheTrueBritons
      @WalesTheTrueBritons 9 месяцев назад

      Probably because “Old English” was created by the Druids of Wales for the incoming Saxons which was loosely based on the Latin, Brythonic (Welsh) etc. of the period.

    Well the British did with Welsh what they did with any other language that sounded 'pretty' or different:
    "Yeah that's enough of that then. Speak English you knobheads."
    And so Welsh, Irish, Scottish Gaelic and so many other languages and cultures were just smashed into the dirt to the point of irrelevance.

    • @WalesTheTrueBritons
      @WalesTheTrueBritons 9 месяцев назад +2

      The Welsh are the British!!! Look up the origin of the name, it eventually comes back to Prydain, The P and D mutate to become B and T. The Anglo (English) are geographically British! Only used said term since early 1700s

      @@rhysjones1885That backstory really follows the logic I was going with. Sami language and finnish used to be clamped down upon in nordic countries for similar reasons. If authorities don't understand what parts of their citizens are saying it makes the authorities who speak another language nervous about your loyalties. And that's on top of the ethnic tensions.
