🚨ANNOUNCEMENT - WE NEED YOUR HELP 🚨 For those who do not know me, my name is Jim and I host the OhSoSpurs podcast. I formed this group following a tough period in my life. I was diagnosed with cancer on the eve of my wedding and my life turned upside down. I found out that I was going to need chemotherapy and other treatments that not only put my life at risk but also meant the prospect of children which had always been a dream of mine was something that may no longer be possible. Once I had the diagnosis, I said to my fiance that if children and a secure future is what she aspired to have in life, then this would be the right moment for us to take separate paths and I would never see it as a reflection on her as a person, it was completely understandable for her to build a new life with someone who she could build a family with and know for certain would be around. She looked me in the eyes in the hospital as we waited to see the Oncologist and told me that regardless of what happens, she wanted to be with me over all those other things. She attended every single chemo session with me and long night. We moved in with my parents as I no longer had an immune system and could not go outside to get my own things safely. Having that support from her is what got me through, I had security that someone was there for me through everything. About mid way through my treatment though I experienced something new I never expected. As I was having a shower and watching clumps of hair clog the drain as the chemo was taking effect, I burst into tears. I had never felt this before. A crushing sense of not being worth anything, a realisation my body was dying and a feeling I was dragging someone else into this situation. It is hard to explain until you truly go through a period of depression but its not as simple as hitting the gym and reading self help books. It was like my brain had realised that the body keeping me alive no longer had a purpose and it was time to remove myself from this world. I would go days where the idea of taking my own life did not scare me at all, it felt like a natural way to move on from this situation and allow others to move on too. I could not get out of it. However I did find things that helped. One was actually @LoveTheShirt. The positivity from guys on there when things were not so good with Spurs gave me that little boost each day and some distraction. Football became a solace escape. I even went to a meetup when I probably shouldn't have that the guys had arranged, they bought me drinks and I had a great night hanging out with the voices I enjoyed listening too. They may not remember it as it was years ago but thank you guys. Anyway, fortunately, for me the treatment began to work and over time I gradually got better, finishing chemo, rescheduling my wedding, getting my hair back and even thanks to the wonders of modern medicine managing to conceive my son, Jack. As I got better though and went back to normal life, back to following Spurs, I found myself being continually dragged down by the negativity around the football club I love that I had previously sought as a place of support. New groups had emerged heavily focused around everything negative or 'holding the club back'. I started to find the idea of talking about Spurs a drain. My escapism had gone. So I created OhSoSpurs, a place where we don't talk about those things that drag you down. A place where we could focus on enjoying our club for what it is rather than needing to feel it was our responsibility to make it something else. I asked if anyone else was interested and it went viral. This is where DJ, Jonny, Si and Stu reached out to say they felt the same. The OhSoSpurs group and podcast was born. We have seen some amazing support and lots if growth over the last 2 years, thank you to all those who listen every week, we genuinely love what we do and speaking with you. Now the dust has settled and we have a rhythm with the show we thought about whether we could do something bigger to help other people who may be feeling lost. We met @CherriesTalking who had started a support group for Bournemouth fans who may be struggling with mental health. A place where fans could go if they felt lost or just needed someone to talk to with their football club at the heart of it. As me and the guys were talking it quickly became apparent that we had all been impacted by mental health in our families or personally. A final story I wanted to share with you is about my brother in law Toby. A kind, gentle and non confrontational individual who loved Chelsea football club. Toby was preparing for his first day of work and his family had arranged to take him for a pint to celebrate. He had folded his clothes and sent a happy birthday message to a friend and gone for a short walk before heading to the pub. However, for a reason we shall never know, he decided in that moment he would take his own life. Instead of celebrating something with Toby, his family and friends found themselves grieving the life of a wonderful person with no answers as to why. These experiences have given us questions similar to the experience that drove the creation of @CherriesTalking . What if Toby had someone to talk to, a group of people associated to something like football who he may have felt he could share his pain with. Would he still be with us today? In the moment I also considered my life, if I had not had my support network, would I have decided than Plan A was the only real option. So here is where we need your help, we want to get Mental Health first aid certified and learn how we can help people who may be looking for support. We want to get ahead of things before it is too late, to create a space for fellow Spurs fans where they know they can go as a first point of call. Somewhere with no judgement or even requirement to talk about their struggles, but a community of safety and support. A quick and easy place you can go if you just need a chat, distraction or support in navigating how you get help. The costs to get certified is £250 per person. We are targeting £1000 to get 4 of us mental health first aid trained so that we can set up our official channels and start providing support. We have set up a justgiving page and would welcome any support you can make. If you can't do not worry. A simple like or share of this post helps too. I will personally cover the costs if needed. justgiving.com/crowdfunding/OhSoSpurs?B3XZm3y

Thanks for your Channel Guys. I came to football in recent years after my wife died of cancer. I have come to love the game, but to hate the toxicity around many of the online fan sites. I don't follow Spurs because it means something. I follow them because it means nothing, and yet gives me great joy and comfort. I am so glad I finally found a youtube channel that has perspective.
Sorry for your loss mate. That must have been a real tough period. If you ever fancy a chat with us waffling old farts on the panel our door is always open. Much love to you! COYS
Does put things into perspective. All the very best to you and the team. I work in a supported living care home for people with mental health issues. There is still a stigma about mental health (although it is better than it was) every time someone like yourself and the lads speaks up it helps. I knew there was a reason I loved your channel. 👌🏻😘
Loads of love for this episode boys. Didn't know about Jim's story and the genesis of the pod. Will be donating to an amazing cause 👏. Also fair play to Jay, great guest, really enjoyed this one fellas. Up the Spurs
Thank you for your support 😊 Yeah Jay is great, we will have him on again soon! We have Ben Bowman on the show tomorrow and then Hotspur Hippie later this month. COYS
Great Pod as always people . This game was never going to be pretty with all those changes and youngsters sure enough it turned chaotic after the initial possession domination . But you know what ? they hung in there when they could have collapsed. Kids got a bit of fight in them . Not surprised Gray is play as a right back . Wenger used to introduce young mids by playing them on the flanks . Fabregas , Ramsey , Flamini all started at RB or RW, till they had the defensive know how to play in central mid.
Thanks for sharing your personal story Jim. You've certainly been through quite a journey. Thanks for your openness and honesty. OhSoSpurs is the only Spurs podcast that I subscribe to now. I just had to escape the toxicity and negativity of the others ... they weren't doing me any good. Keep up the good work.
So much respect gor you guys .. i was talking to another spurs fan about my worry for johnsons mental health .. i was called soft .. we have such a long way to go

Well said Jay. The side has to be looked at in the context of the whole PL and the context of we've performed first 4 games. Big improvements and they haven't gelled yet.
Love this channel! Never ever do I want to win a trophy as much as now just to quiet the negative fan base! I hate toxic Tottenham fans more than Gooners, that’s how bad it is unfortunately!
At the end of the day….football is just a game. A passionate game but still just a game. Whether the team you support is in the Prem or any other division, you support your club come what may. It gives us pleasure every week of the season and it’s exciting making signings in the windows. Unfortunately there are people, who are never satisfied, they become abusive to managers, players and to other supporters and this negativity does nobody any good. We all want success but it shouldn’t be at any cost.

Perhaps negativity , disappointment even anger has been ingrained in Spurs supporters due to season after season of false hope and expectation and underachievement. it's human nature. After all , every supporter of every club starts his journey from the same place.
Thanks Jim - I know that football can be such a connection point for people, but perhaps especially for men. I had tears in my eyes while you were giving your intro as mental health issues can affect many of us. Football clubs can be a great point of community, and nobody knows better than this than Ange. This is why he builds such strong support at the clubs he leads. Thank you for creating a positive podcast in a sea of negativity.
Ange’s hands-off, let the players figure it out style reminds me of the great Phil Jackson. That was his philosophy in coaching the Chicago Bulls to 6 NBA titles.
Agree, if Porro is unfit and in EL/ other games. Always good to have competition for places. Remember when we had Walker AND Trippier at the same time.
Its a good question! Hard to say as most of them are new singings since he joined. The only first team players he inherited that have stayed are Porro (improved), Son (declined but likely due to his age), Bentancur (hard to judge due to injuries) and Romero (hit his peak under Ange but regressed this year).
@@OhSoSpursI would also add vdv he is 1 of the best cb in the premier league and he wasn’t one of the best from the get go same as udogie I think he was voted into the premier league team of the year in his first full premier league season
The example of Phil Jackson not saying anything doesn't work as he had Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen and Rodman to win the game. Where are our leaders in this team?
Not talking about the players. Purely comparing the leadership style of Ange to other high profile leaders. Managers don't change their style of leadership depending on who they manage. They may change tactics and treat some players slightly differently to others but their encompassing style is consistent and tied to their personality. COYS
As Jim said I was referring to the style. Also Jackson did have those players at the Bulls, but he had the same style at the Lakers and not just with the Kobe and Shaq team but the weaker ones that followed.
@dutchgrass those two teams were used to winning things still though and have that mentality ingrained in them even if they aren't good enough. At Spurs I think they've forgotten. That's why Liverpool, Utd fans etc can get behind whatever manager because that's what they expect. We simply don't.
@OhSoSpurs But in his other teams he probably had leaders in it. I can't see any leaders in this Spurs team tbh. Romeros head seems to be turned, Son argues with the ref instead of geeing up his teammates and Maddison seems to be just for cameras.
He looks 'lost'...... He is tactical clueless, plays one way. Issue is the one way is poor. It clogs up the middle, leaves no space to play and leaves two players defending half the pitch.
I alluded to the same fear in times of his “look” but as the other boys said I don’t agree he is not in control. There are different types of successful leaders. I chose to remain optimistic and believe in long term success.
God bless this channel! Football is losing its origins community unity bringing people together! Win lose or draw you support your team! I started going football with my dear dad 50 years ago, my dad who was a spurs fan through and through our love of the team and the game was our time together he passed away last year I miss him so much to the point that I felt what’s the point of me being here anymore but the one thing that helped me was my club and my Spurs family and going to watch them to still be close to my dad so your cause is spot on! I’ve stopped watching the toxic negativity a long time ago your channel is so refreshing and a safe place to listen to like minded Spurs supporters! Keep up the great work! It’s much appreciated!🤍
Sorry for the loss of your dad. The memories you have of times going to Spurs with him are amazing. I’ve been going with my two lads, and occasionally my daughter, since there were six years old. Now they are 2&23 and we share two STs between us, meet the OSS crew for a couple of pints before every home game. Fortunately my amazing wife knows how special these times are… like us, I hope you continue to enjoy many more days at WHL and success in the future🙏🏻🤍🐓

Sarr has been shocking.
So…. yes, for the last couple of games he’s been way below his best. BUT he is quality and will continue to be very important for us.
I chose to remain optimistic and believe in long term success.
good morning Johnny. I hope Ange shows some tactical changes. Needs to create some space for Kulu & Maddison to pull the strings.
13:20 me when I hear its Shepard's pie for dinner :(
