Thor explaining the physics of his own hammer...
So this hasn't been forgotten
Funny, maybe that's why the vampires wouldn't turn him after that buffy episode. impervious Asgardian flesh.
hahahahhaha
Oh the irony...
No, Thor's A red head.
It could be that the hammer bounces off the juggernaut because Odin's enchantment is smart enough to "turn off" before it destroys the universe.
BLOOGaming LOL that means Thor’s hammer is smarter than Juggernaut!
hmm am thinkin if they both meet and collide with each other, would`t this than expand the universe at this point? because thors hammer moves the space around it and doesnt move within in the universe. you can correct me if i miss something there. so the hammer would break or the universe would expand at the collision point, creating something realy interesting like a wormhole to a place that doesnt exist jet.
BLOOGaming This does make sense. Could be the hammer is sentient or somehow has an AI interface within it. Or Maybe it's just in tune with the Odin Force so destroying the universe it's against it's properties.
TriMarkC Yeah lol I've always got the impression that Juggernaut was never such a smart dude to begin with.
He wasn't. Remember that time when he inadvertently halved his own power level just because he wanted to give his best buddy the gem as a birthday present?

Grand_ Piston yeah well that is just as a joke....
Was just about to comment that bro.... Probably still gonna
Let me explain to you the panel where Thor's hammer strikes Juggernaut. Thor's hammer is asgardian technology, so it has safeguards in it. So when the hammer encounters the infinite gravitons of the Juggernaut it's failsafe kicks in and Mjolnir's gravitons turn off to keep the universe from imploding and harmlessly bounces off the Juggernaut's hide.
Did I do it? Am I a good comic apologist now?
Bravo! You've made it dear boy/girl/demon/being!

Defiantly the best show on Nerdist. Only subscribed for Because Science, keep it up!
Yup. I don't watch much of their content here, but Because Science has me clicking immediately.
yep same here
The show is definitely pretty defiant.
That's why I subscribed but now I watch every single video of this channel, anyway these guys do an amazing job ;)
Yea same the other stuff is boring
Person: "I wonder what would happen if Thor's hammer hit juggernaut..."
Sarcastic person: "the universe would end."
Science: "diddo."
What happens when an immovable object meets an unstoppable force?
Simple.
They surrender.
that would implies the unstoppable force is stoppable and the immovable object can be moved, i really hope you are not serious about this
Johns Hurt Of course Im not serious. Its a quote from all star superman.
i know but iv actually seen some people who believe it's the correct answer
Johns Hurt Well for anyone who isnt a big science guy it wouldve seemed like a good enough answer. How can something be immovable if it meets an irresistible force? Well they stop being irresistible and immovable of course. Not that thats correct or anything but it seems correct enough to most people.
NeutralGuyDoubleZero nah, Avengers have already shown what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object.
Schwarzwald gets levelled.
Captain America's shield stopped Thor's Hammer. Thor's Hammer can't be picked up, but it can be stopped when it's off the ground.
The hammer has a failsafe, caps shield and third hammer would've done much more damage if it didn't have a failsafe to keep it from blowing up the universe
That worked because Cap's shields absorbs energy.
+Jeff The Theorist no, energy has nothing to do with magic. It was not because of the shield, but because of the hammer
+420gaiden Just because Mjolnir is magic doesn't mean it's exempt from physics. When Thor hit Cap's shield, it had a whole hell of a lot of kinetic energy behind it but since Cap's shield has vibranium, that energy is absorbed.
+Mr. J yes, but magic is what makes it immovable, magic completely changes the physics when it comes to the hammer
you can't apply science to Mjolnir, as it's under the power of Odin's spells. magic completely demolishes any scientific theory.
You're in the wrong place, but thanks for watching! -- KH
+Nerdist if you're goal is to apply science to Marvel, I'd recommend staying away from anything that involves sorcery.
Magic is just science we don't understand yet
Any advanced enough technology is indistinguishable from magic
sorry dude but even Thor himself mentioned that their magic is just like our technology just way more advanced. So it seems like magic but is more like super tech.
Wouldn't it actually be Mjolgernaut? Or Juggelnir?
Aaron Alejos Jugglnir is what Thor did after he was almost married to a Jotun.

So what would happen if Juggernaut jumped? Would he just fall through the ground into the core or something?
Good question...
I suppose he would be totally "bucked"? ;P
+Chris Gowen good one
Well that would depend on his intent. He could just simply change his mass in order to allow his to jump, then adujust it to what he needed to do.

Ah right, thanks.

The Primal Earth same thing
The Primal Earth that's his kryptonite.
Mjolnir can be knocked off course and Juggernaut's charge can be redirected so the most likely outcome is they hit and then go flying off in random directions...
Go away person who has read comics unlike the maker of the video.
ApesAmongUs You can't make me! :P
I NEED MORE OF KYLE ONCE A WEEK ISN'T ENOUGH
Sorry but do to a lack of knowledge you're wrong this time. The comics established a set of rules for Mjolnir sometime ago. They include;
1, While in the air as if thrown, anyone with enough strength vs the force Thor used when throwing, can deflect or redirect Mjolnir. I think he was knocked out with his own hammer using this rule
2, If Thor is touching any part of Mjolnir the Worthiness Enchantment does not apply, so anyone can lift and use it. Thanos mind controlled the Hulk into beating Thor unconscious using Mjolnir while Thor held onto it. Imagine Hulk saying "WHY ARE YOU HITTING YOURSELF?!" while he does it. LMAO
P.S. Love your channel
fisck45 I mean, he only got hit once, so it’s not really a “why are you hitting yourself?” scenario, more of a “why did you hit yourself” one.
There, I ruined the joke.
Also, he did that before, but this time Thanos wasn’t involved and it involved multiple hits, and Thor didn’t get up immediately after - he was a bloody pulp. Funny how the only times Hulk has beaten Thor in canon, that weren’t dream sequences (using dream sequences as a way of having Hulk fight everybody and kill people without consequences for sales happens a lot for Marvel) involve him hitting him in the face with his own hammer - it’s hilarious how many times Thor lets that happen, I mean, Red Hulk did it too (in space), Thor’s a real idiot.
Who wins in a fight between Thor and the Hulk?
Answer - Mjölnir
Shame it was destroyed, which (getting off topic here) was BS. How did Mjölnir get destroyed in the Sun? It has been in the sun before, without any harm - m.imgur.com/UxGlyKA
The writer responsible, in the same run, also wrote this, where Thor went into a star, and came out fine, as did his hammer - m.imgur.com/vgQHFiB?r
Anyways, back on topic - Mjölnir could be used in other ways, like dropping it on his helmet, or putting it on some5ing so Juggernaut comes into contact with it, on say, an Adamantium pillar.
I think the simplest answer though is still the same, they deflect off of each other.
True, even in endgame Thanos redirects it by smashing it away with his Blade Glaive thingy he was using
fisck45 only worthy people can lift ti idiot

I just subscribed to your channel earlier today and i find your videos very entertaining to watch and you have actually answered some questions that have been swimming in my head for awhile, for example the episode with OPM vs. Hulk. I do also believe that OPM would win even though i am a huge Marvel fan. Keep up the great work Kyle!
The Juggernaut's power is mystic, not physical, and Thor's hammer doesn't have properties that make it unstoppable, per se, only unable to be lifted by those who are unworthy.
that is true, because i do recall seeing hulk drag it across the ground, he oculdn't lift it, but he could move it.
Windhelm Guard Yeah I'm not trying to troll, it's the same reason Superman is vulnerable to magic... it's not physical, it's mystical, which per se, exists outside of physics.
Brian m
Wait but isn’t Thor calling them unworthy mean they just can’t lift it because mljnor was made by uru a really strong material and not to mention a enhanced human carried it
@@kepler425b3 late reply, but no. Thors hammer is enchanted so that only those worthy to rule asgard can lift the hammer. thats why the hulk cant lift it even though he is stronger than thor, and captain america can lift it. Captain is worthy, the hulk is not.
2:53 Omg I died! 😂
One of the X-Men cartoons featured Juggernaut vs Blob. Blob has the power to control his personalized gravity, which makes him imoveable. When Juggernaut hit him, it uprooted the ground Blob was standing on. So technically speaking, Blob didn't move from where he was standing, it's just that his foot hold was disconnected from its original position.
Or... both would bounce on impact away from each other, similar to when Mjolnir strikes Cap's shield of Vibranium, but at an equal effect. It's like running into someone who weighs as much as you and running as fast as you. You simply bounce back on impact because neither have any give to the approaching force.
No, because that would mean you were accelerated backwards. And since that can't happen, his scenario still would.
What a coincidence, Kyle looks so much like Thor! XD
Thor and Juggernaut fought in Thor #411 & #412. Juggernaut's force field easily halted Mjolnir dead in it's tracks when Thor threw it at him. Juggernaut then grabs the hammer as it travels back to Thor's hand and punches Thor through a load of train cars and a wall which knocked Thor out cold. The New Warriors attacked before he could finish off Thor. Thor summons the very godforce within him and combines it with the power of Mjolnir and releases the two energies as one beam which manages to stop and push back Juggernaut. He struggles back and the two forces are locked against each other when the ground gives way before we find out which force is stronger and who would win and Juggernaut falls down a crack. The New Warriors trap him in a cocoon made out of melted steel girders and Thor uses Mjolnir to transport Juggernaut to another dimension before he can break free.
I know, I show that specific panel in the episode. -- KH
I just got why he did the joker part from BATMAN clever LOL i laughed so hard
+sporkkillerman I'm not so sure about that. Depending on the size of the hammer and the weight of the child there is a good chance it won't bounce off and will instead follow through, carrying the child with it.
+sporkkillerman well what kind of hammer were you using. For example, in my experience a basic claw hammer will fare much worse than a sledge hammer, and there are probably hundreds of different varieties of hammer. Also, the part of the body will make a difference because of different amounts of torque applied depending on how far above the ground the point of impact is.
+sporkkillerman Exactly. There are way too many factors at play to give a definitive yes or no answer. Even whether or not they see it coming makes a huge difference because of whether they brace for the impact (I personally usually try to catch them off-guard)
please do a collaboration with jake from Vsause3..... XD please!

I thought that thor's hammer could be moved by bouncing off something but no one could say pick it up afterwords
that really was a great compliment
kyle.... looks like a jock..... talks like a nerd. so glad i found this series Because Science!
Look like Thor, sound like Bill Nye. Or something. -- KH
Haha, Kyle looks like one of the jocks where you're from? Do they even lift?
well our football team did have a 27 year losing streak so .... ya...
This is the first time that I've see this question with Thor's Hammer vs. Juggernaut. Usually it's always, "What happens when Juggernaut runs into the Blob?" Because, Juggernaut is unstoppable and Blob is unmovable. So, would those two guys colliding with each other also cause a black hole?
Man love these videos, keep it up man!!
But hasn't the Hulk both stopped the Juggernaut and lifted Mjölnir through pure strength before in the comics...? Hulk wins.
SweggySpoder we’re talking science and theories. Not comics
THE COMICS ARE SCIENCE!!!!!!!!!
SweggySpoder Never lifted the hammer
valdr22 He has, when Odin removed the worthiness thing from it. It’s only about 41lbs.
UK Drill Central never heard about that story line
Do what if Thor used his hammer as a baseball bat
How far would the ball travel and at what speed
+Lewis Johnstone Infinitely far, I suppose.
+Lewis Johnstone the ball would break into atom-sized pieces.

Kyle needs his own tv show. He is so great.
I loved this analysis of this topic
Thuggernaut.
You make science fun, you defy physics
They need more views for their videos. Somehow they actually make science something I can pay attention to
Thanks you! -- KH
No, he defines, not defies. I agree he makes it fun.
True dat, make for thought provoking
I figured Juggernaut's ability might be this... Anything that causes resistance under normal conditions, instead is destroyed by having its potential energy converted to kinetic energy and get absorbed by Juggernaut. That way his environment gives him limitless fuel.
Instant Universe-sized black hole...cool!
Lol my friends already think I'm nerdy probably because I try to explain stuff like the science and math in this show🤓
Lean into it! Being nerdy is being you, and your friends should be OK with that. -- KH
Nerdist, stick to stuff like this and stop hyping every movie that is even the tiniest bit Nerdy.
Adding to that.
If there are 1000 different personality types, and they're equally distributed, that's still 6 million people. There are enough people in the world that you aren't stuck with the friends you have.
Well, if juggernaut is hit with a glancing blow by Mjolnir, the Juggernaut's shoulder would definitely be broken if not shattered, because it's like a freight train.
Thor's hammers not so immovable in the vacuum of space
Oh snap
Actually, it is.
as ew tell red hulk that, he isnt worthy proven when he had his hands trapped under it on earth but in space he was free to hit thor with it as much as he wants without thor having any contact holding it etc
cosmicgrub360 and we all know how unworthy red hulk is lol
cosmicgrub360 I don't think that story is canon
2:37 i thought he was gonna say "no matter what the f*ck is" xD
I was under the impression that Thor's hammer was/could become enormously massive, where Juggernaut had infinite mass once he started moving. These might simply be "large numbers" in which case you would have to determine what those numbers to see what would actually happen.
Thor discussing about Thor
You mean, "Can MY hammer stop Juggernaut?"
great video thank you and how could you not do the blob versus juggernaut? this hasn't been talked about enough.
Love that joker reference at 1:43 😂
I waited 8 minutes before realizing the videos over
couldn't space just warp around the impact such that the hammer and the juggernaut maintain their velocities but space expands around them to allow infinite separation. kind of like a wormhole. This could persist until whatever slight deviation exists between their direction vectors allows them to avoid a collision. kind of like a ripple appears between the the juggernaut and hammer appear to freeze and slowly slide apart along the plane of the would be collision until they resume apparent motion when they have separated enough that each whiz past the other in a near miss.
or perhaps what is being displayed in the comic is a version of this where the masses of both the juggernaut and the hammer warp space so much that it curves in on itself and allows the hammer to apparently reverse direction while still maintaining its same velocity. each infinitely massed object keeps its velocity but travels through curved space allowing them to avoid the collision and appear to change direction.
I mean it's an awfully convenient way for space to bend, but mass does bend space and we're already accepting that these objects can change their mass at will so why not?
let me know what you think
0:32 "At least according to me" THERE'S YOUR PROOF
Love the Silver Surfer reference at 0:19.
No, it's not the physical part, it's time and quantum superpositioning, using the future to effect the past.(double slide experiments)
The hammer would not move because it was there the next moment, it is literally frozen in time. And it's owner can adjust the position of the hammer in the whole 11D space.
Hey Kyle my names Kyle
I had some scientific or rather technical thoughts regarding Thor's hammer and I thought it might be a nice debate.
Lately I've watched Thor 1 a few times and there's two points in which I found Thor's hammer logic contradictions. With the premise that if your not worthy you can't move the hammer so bear with me.
1: if something inorganic as Vision can lift move and wield Thor's hammer then if we're going with the Thor fingerprint logic then A) in the Stan lee cameo in Thor 1 shouldn't the chains and truck be able to move the hammer then since it's not being touched by a person technically and B) to jump to Age of Ultron as everyone's trying to lift the hammer then shouldn't Tony and Rhodey be able to lift it since their using the inorganic armor to try to wield it?
(For the second point which is more awesome I have to put it in another comment, I ran out of characters for the limit lol)
I'm glad people are still getting down with making learning fun.
2 years later and I'm still waiting for it
is there a super hero battle that CANNOT distroy the world?
Spidey vs. Wolverine?
Maybe, so long as the other X-Men did not get involved.
+Lord spider Lol true
Batman v superman
Ant man vs batman
If And Only If either of those weapons worked though _conventional_ science. Considering they both work by, not even normal magic, but divine judgement mechanics, them meeting would wouldn't be a black hole, just an exotic energy detonation.
the female dog quip got me good hahaha xD
At about 3:00 it sounded like he said infernite (in-fer-nint pronounced like spelled) and I find it funny!
Question for you Kyle: if Mjolnir es truly immovable when on the floor, shouldn't it dig its way through the Earth? The planet IS moving across space, and at a considerable speed I might add.
It can be moved by elevators, so no, not likely.
+Fantasy Connect then it is definitely not immovable. The lift should remain in place if it were. The enchantment must be limited to people trying to pick it up by touch.
+Martín Fernández Varela It changes it's properties when in contact with a sentient being, for example Thor can pick up the hammer just fine although it's an immovable object, and the juggernaut can stop moving by his own will, basically by your logic neither of them is actually what they are stated to be.
+Fantasy Connect yeah, seems so. I think Kyle mentions that at some point. Marko and Mjolnir have mystical attributes, not scientific ones, so it stands to reason that they can be immovable/unstoppable under certain conditions. Other way, it'd be a problem!
I'd wager that it's practically immovable, like I said in the video. In other words, when someone tries to pick it up, it increases its mass in proportion to that lifting force such that its acceleration changes negligibly. It only increases as much as it has to in response to lifting, etc., so it's not infinitely massive all the time, or else, you're right, it would go through the planet. -- KH
what would actualy happen, when the ghostbusters are crossing their streams?
They get wet.
There's a lot of possibilities
The theory I prescribe to though is that when the steams cross they create a black hole.
Another horrible movie is spawned from the fallout.
For real, though, nothing happens. They just join together to make one bigger stream. It happens often in the cartoon IIRC.
didn't they cross streams at the end of the movie to kill final boss?
yes, but i whant to have a sientific analysis of the hole thing ^^
2:52 I just about died laughing at this.
3:13 kyle: it sounds intense but hey, thats how it works
Are there any actual metal compositions that could come close to being real life versions of andamantium, vibranium, or carbondanium ? like in marvel comics.

So by your definition would light be un unstoppable force, no amount of energy can make it travel faster, and it is has already accelerated to the speed limit of the universe.
A New Perspective Films It has no mass.
A New Perspective Films it has no mass, it's not an object
A New Perspective Films i dont think light carries any kind of force. It weighs nearly nothing
By the way it's an not un
tyent bonto light has momentum.

Every episode you have a black hole explosion thingy
Years later... I am still waiting for it
Do you know how cool it would be to be in the set of this show? I wish I had the chance. Science is so cool and this show makes it so fu to learn as well.
Since when could Thor's Hammer change its mass? If that were actually true, Vision would not be able to lift it. Vision could lift it because he doesn't register as a sentient lifeform to the hammer's enchantments, not because of godlike strength.
If you ignore the magical/sci-fi elements, Thor's Hammer is just a magnificently durable and well-crafted weapon. It has no means of doing the incredible things described.
This wasn't very good science. *Good science would be recognizing the boring answers:* One of the two (unstoppable or immovable)... is falsely titled, as demonstrated in comics. That is what actually happens if two such things meet - One of them is dethroned of their grandiose title.
He can lift it because the hammer doesn't make itself more massive when he attempts to pick it up -- it recognizes his "worthiness," whatever that metric is. -- KH
+Nerdist Im pretty sure that there was some evil robot or something that was able to lift the hammer with no problems. I think that the magic DOES only apply to living things :x
What if the gravitons doesn't increase mass but rather fixes its point in space, like an anchor in the sea?
Also.. He can pick it up because the MCU isn't cannon!
The Vision is sentient...
The reason I come to see these they are Because Kyle ,see what I did there because scien..... I'll be quiet now
Good one!And tbh,I come for him too
+Edward G.C. My fucking brain read that wrong
Lol!!
nice science,,,subscribed..
This would've been awesome to see in the comic! You guys should explain this to Marvel and have them remake that comic where the Juggernaut fought Thor.
wow I'm early
last time I was this early hulk punched thor
No.
I see what you did there XD
+Edward G.C. yes
Good thing it's magic.
5:05 woke me the fuck up and I be startled.
i dont know why i love fiction science. maybe that is why i love this channel
Hulk stopped Juggernaut. Also, you can't use science based on their abilities. They defy every aspect of it.
the very essence of scientific breakthroughs is reasoning with what defies logic.
He's actually referring to War (Horseman of Apocalypse) Hulk, enhanced by Celestial Technology beyond his limits.. but in that instance Juggernaut was actually weakened from his time in the Excalibur Universe.. and he didn't strictly recover his full power until WWH..
I am aware this is a fictional universe we are talking about here, but in the future if we ever discover something that defies science as it is, please _please_ do not say we "can't use science" on it.
but people are stupid and they will keep comparing XD
Juggernaut is immortal and industructible
*"That would be more like an odd cthugga nut mule good jokes."* -JuggerHill 2016
THAT PSYCH REFRENCE AT THE END THO
