Appreciate your content, picked up a used LG Ultrafine 24MD4KL-B after watching your review of it (love it) .and earlier today via your link bought the t7 shield (after going back and forth about an enclosure ,just didnt want to be concerned about any heat issues from an unknown brand) Thanks again the time and research you put into your reviews is appreciated.
You are right on the money with the heat. That’s why I stick with the branded all in ones for the most part. Thanks for the support. It means a lot!
Hi, Adam, you've got a very useful to-the-point video here! Precisely what I needed. You have by now so much mastered all the facets of video - the camera, the content etc, that now may be the time (i.m.h.o.) to focus on better reading too - the articulation, the expression, the sentence melody etc, to make the whole thing perfect. Have a great future, son!
Thank you for the wisdom. I'm a work in progress :D I've been behind the camera for 7 years now and am still working on being in front of it.
Thanks for making this review Adam, it was just what I was looking for 👍
This definitely helps me decide this Black Friday. Thank you!
Which will you buy?
Great, concise and usefull review. Thanks!
Thanks for the note about the Mac speed limitations, I didn't realise that. Would have paid the same for half the storage. Thanks!
Glad to help!
Helpful comparison, thanks!
Glad to help! Thanks for watching
Great video, helped me a lot for the decision! Keep going
What should I review next???
Thank you Adam 🙏
Hi Adam, my family have iphones and Androids does the s7 shield work equally with both? Also is it easy to set up with both. Thanks for your time in advance 👍🏻
Thank you adam. you deserve a new sub
Thanks for the sub!
I was about to purchase the T9 for my MacBook but glad I watched this video before wasting extra cash!
I’m hoping to have a comprehensive SSD buying guide coming out soon.
The same, I was expecting good reviews about crazy speed on macs but end up with these video luckely. Good habit to take look at reviews before buying. But still shame they make so much different ports on such expensive macs and they dont even ensure simple ssd maximal speeds.
Bro has a macbook in 2024.. Upgrade your outdated devices 😂😂
Good stuff!
Just bought the 4TB T7. The Black Friday deal is so hard to pass. I know I will never get the speed of the T9 on my mac so this T7 is a good enough stopgap for now. Hopefully more manufacturers will start carrying usb 4 drives next year.
Yeah I need to study up on usb 4 and make a video about it soon. I get a lot of comments telling me that I’m wrong about dual lane usb
how is this better or cheaper than a good nvme drive within an external enclosure?
it's not cheaper, you just can know that they have tested the thermal performance and certify it to some degree vs with a NVME they give you top speeds and all but they never certify what it will do with the enclosure. Also a lot of the enclosures just don't have super good heat dissipation.@@javiersaturno9689
@@javiersaturno9689 I do DIY for cheaper/unimportant storage solutions. For the primary storage I go with prebuilt / factory-made one as that one is so important I only want to deal with ONE vendor instead of multiple when shit happens and don't want to be kicked around like a soccer ball.
@@PolluxChungunderstood. Only, I can't find TBW for pre-built ssd drives at the manufacturers sites easily.
Great review .
Thank you! Cheers!
Amazing video, spot on for macbook users. Short and useful. Thank you sir
No one should be using macbooks in 2024 tho... They suck
i have t7 black 1TB shield and super happy about it
Great ssd
Thank You!
You're welcome!
Wow thanks a lot for this I just got the T9 ssd today and I got it at a great price but it makes no sense if I can’t get the best speed out of it. I’ll be exchanging it tomorrow.
Yeah USB 2x2 is really frustrating.
Can I backup (pictures / videos ) my iPhone 12pro and Mac Pro to it ?
Which one should I buy for a mac mini?
What about the t7 shield vs the SAMSUNG T5 EVO??
Thanks for the video. I've been using Samsung T series SSD for years and I have never been disappointed . It's an excellent product line ! See U Soon. François
Thanks for watching. Welcome to the channel
So basically t9 is use for future laptops? But I want t7 shield more bcoz it has more protection and up to date speed on the market that can be use for maximum speed for the laptop nowadays but I want the higher option 8tb version like t5 evo.
What usb gen does the t7 use?
Thank you so much for such a great video. Could you please test if the Samsung T9 or Sandisk Extreme Pro would provide the full speed 2000 mb/s on the newest MBP with M4 chip and USB 4. I'm really confused because some reviews on retailer websites show people were able to get the full speed on Macs.
No they won’t. I’ve seen some of those reviews and I have no idea how they got those speeds because in theory it’s impossible
Everyone is here because of that Black Friday deal uhh😭😂
Yup made this video just in time lol
Bought the T7 touch on Black Friday for $99. Doing more research after the fact. Plenty of T5 vs T7 comparisons but not enough t7 vs T9 on the web
How many gb for that price@gqlovalova
@@amnbe2978 2TB
@@amnbe2978the T7 that’s $99 is for the 2TB one. And for a few dollars more, the T9 but you’d only be getting 1TB.
Great video. is the T9 faster with the iphone 15 pro max?
what is his TBW? no info on that anywhere, what's the point of his external reliability if internally he'll die in a couple years
Hi, my laptop has a 512 GB solered SSD,so I can use these types of SSD for secondary storage for the long term(video editing) ? And I am also worried about heating issues and crashing ...
Thank you for the video. Do you know if the T7 shield will be able to download videos from an iPad Pro fourth generation? some of the latest reviews or comments I see online seem to say that people are having problems. I am not computer savvy at all so I’m not really sure if I should buy it or not. I don’t want an expensive paperweight. Thanks again
I haven’t used it on iPad a ton but what are the problems you’re reading?
@@adamtalkstech
Hi, thank you for the response. Some of the comments are people saying that when they first started to use it they had no problem accessing videos or files. But some of the latest comments from just recently or from a few months ago people seem to be saying that they either can’t access their info or can’t download onto it.
Which do you recommend for just long term storage for backing up files? Mostly personal photos and videos.
Man that could be a long answer... I would do whatever you could to have two SSDs, one you leave at home and another at your office or a family member's house. I personally put stuff on a RAID drive so its backed up on two drives, but the enclosure is in one location so its still not an ideal backup... But I think the simplest would be grab two t7 shields in 2 or 4tb config and keep one somewhere else and schedule a monthly backup.
Samsung t 7 shield mi yoksa Kingston xs2000 ?
Hi Adam, Thank you, very interesting watch. It seems more T7 Shields around that the standard T7. Will the T9 get supported on Current M1/M2/M3 Macs?
No it won’t. I don’t think they can add dual lane support after the fact.
Thank You @@adamtalkstech
iPhone 15pro can I get it for ?
Came across various comments concerning slow r/w speeds on mac and win for the T7 4 tb
Never had any issues with that one
Great video! Which should I go with if I have an iPhone 13 Pro (lightning cable) and want to edit photos on a windows surface pro laptop (compatible with USB-A)? I’ll have it constantly plugged in as I do heavy edits frequently. Thanks!
you won’t be getting fast speeds on the iPhone, and the USB A won’t support the dual lane speeds so I’d get the T7 shield
Thank you!
Hey, bro! your video is so insightful. Anyway i have a question. What is the best for iphone 15 pro?
I'd go with the shield, better durability, and the 15 pro can't use 2 lane speeds that the T9 offers.
@@adamtalkstech So it is better for me to buy T7 Shield? Got it. Thank you so much for the reply, Bro.
Yup t7 shield for iPhone 15 pro!! Or check out the Crucial X9 Pro as well. I have a comparison of those drives coming out soon.@@jojoreps5173

Great video, thanks. I have a MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019) with a USB 3.1 Gen 2. Will the Samsung T7 Shile dwork with my Macbook Pro?
Yep absolutely!

Regarding the Mac limitation, has this changed at all with the new Macbooks or has does it remain the same?
No, still no Macs with 2x2
I think you’re the right person to ask.
Which of those you think will better perform for me?
It'll be exclusively use to storege my orchestral sample libraries, so I do need fast read/write capabilities.
I only have 1 USB-C port (3.2 Gen 2) which is being occupied by my sound interface.
And I'm planning to plug the SSD to a USB-A port (3.2 Gen 2). Worth it?
Any recommendations? Perhaps a different brand? Crucial? (I'm a Windows user btw).
Thank you so much!
I’ve actually got a video on the crucial x10 pro compared to the Samsung t10 coming soon. What is your sound interface? Do you have any thunderbolt ports available? I would just get whichever drive is cheaper since you can’t use the fast speeds
@@adamtalkstech Hey man! Thanks for replying that soon! I'm looking forward to watch that vid!
My sound interface is a SSL 2+. As matter of fact, I've just found the 2nd USB cable that they provide the interface with (which is a USB type C to type A cable).
I guess I could try that cable and thus, free up the USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 port that I have available on the PC.
In SSL's manual, they state: "As this is a USB 2.0 compliant device, it will make no difference to the performance as to which cable you use" (hope this is true).
I don't have Thunderboldt ports (planning to get at least one). Kind of doing a research about it though. Seems like my motherboard (Gigabyte z490m) has 2x Thunderboldt add-in card connectors. But I have no idea if they support TB 3 or TB4...
I have to do a little more research about it. As you can see, I ain't no expert at all 😅
Just in case, specs:
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z490M Gaming X
Processor: Intel I9-10850K, 3.60 GHZ, 20 MB Caché L3, LGA 1200, 125 W
Memory: Kingston Fury DDR4, 3466 MHz, PC4-277000 (128 GB)
Storage:
SSD Kingston A2000, 1 TB, M.2, 2280
HDD Western Digital WD Blue, 2 TB, SATA 6.0 GB/s, 256 MB Caché
Graphics: Gigabyte NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1050 TI, 4 GB GDDR5
Power: 650 W ATX
Windows Home 10, 64 Bits
Thank you so much for your precius time.
@@JorgeTelloOlivaComposer yes use the usb a port for the interface. I’m not super familiar with motherboards as I’m in the Mac world. Also is your usb port capable of dual lane? From what you’ve provided I think it will top at 10Gbps speeds so the drive you choose won’t matter too much. Also music projects and samples don’t take as much band width as heavy video editing so t9 or crucial x10 pro would both be more than capable even though you wouldn’t ge to use the top speeds
@@adamtalkstech In another video of yours that I saw, I understood that "dual lane" is specified with the nomenclature: "2x2", right?
In that case, no. Nowhere does it say "2x2". It only specifies USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C.
But from what I've been reading, and thanks to your comments, I understand that I should have no problem with a maximum speed limited to 10Gbps.
It's true that I'm a little concerned about the weight of the templates I have built with my sample libraries, but the only way to find out is by trying it 😅.
Again, thank you so much for your time! You have helped big time!
I will take advantage of Black Friday's deals to grab myself one of those SSDs.
@@JorgeTelloOlivaComposer yeah gen 2 isn’t dual lane. It’s a dumb naming scheme. Glad to have helped!! I need to make a long form explainer that gets super detailed on all of these at some point.
I recently bought a Mac Mini M2 16 gb and 256 storage and am looking to upgrade my storage with something I can keep plugged into my mac mini ALL THE TIME, .Not sure which product is best for that scenario, my needs are rather basic, as I am NOT a content provider or video editor- just an everday avgerage user. Are the samsung t7/t9 designed to be plugged in all the time ? Would they hinder the perrformance of the M2? saw your video on the San Disk Pro G40 4TB Thunderbolt 3 SSD- are they better suited? Lots of people are going with DIY enclosure, but I was trying to kee things as simple as possible. What would you recommend?
If you’re wanting best sustained performance definitely go with the pro g40. In a lot of my ssd reviews I mention it but sometimes I feel that takes away from the specific ssd the video is covered.
That being said for your use case I would get the pro g40 and call it good. I think they have any amazing fake right now. Those do really well even with a heavier load as the nvme in them could support 7000mbps but you can’t do that with thunderbolt.
Bro got scammed lol
Can a future firmware update make the T9 compatible with M3 MacBooks or is the issue a port issue ( meaning Mac will never be able to take advantage of the high speed)??
My guess is all the current line will never support it. They already support usb 4 but not 3.2x2
@@adamtalkstech So, it doesn't make sense for Mac to take T9?
hey great video, will the t9 be proper for the new m3 MacBook
It’ll work but not at the faster speeds
My PC has a USB-C port, but it's a 3.0 port, not a 3.2 Gen 2x2 port. Can I still use the USB-C cable on the T7 Shield, or do I have to use the USB-A cable?
You can still use that c to c cord
Hi! What would you recommend me if I want an SSD to go back and forth between MacBook M2 and Windows 11? I want to use it in both devices
Either would work fine. But really the crucial x9 pro is my favorite compact and affordable drive

Does the new m3 Max Mac support the 3,2 2x2 USB?
No
Samsung T7 had a flat surface to place a magsafe but it only has 2tb. also, it is hard to place a magsafe on T7 Shield and used it with phone.
Yeah definitely recommend the crucial if you are wanting to use it with iphone
What about the Mac air M2? Dose that have the same speed limit?
Yes, no macs support Dual lane 2x2 USB 3.2

what’s the sustained writing speed for t9? Specs say 1000mbs. Have you tested?
Yes I didn't have any issues with slowdowns while using it.
Hello I just bought a mbp m2pro 14 inch, does it support the USB 3.2 gen 2 2x2? pls help
It does not. You will top out at the USB 3.2 gen 2 speeds of around 1000 mbps unless you get a thunderbolt 3 SSD.
New to portable ssd's here...can you transfer files back and forth between mobile and ssd??
Yes you can! Depends on what device you have and adapters. These work great with iPhone 15 or other USB C devices. not so great with any iPhones with lightning ports.
@adam-talks-tech i own the Samsung galaxy s23 ultra
which one would you recommend more for iPhone 15 Pro?
Either is fine. I prefer the crucial x9 pro for iPhone with smaller size though
Does it make a difference for the T9 speeds if you use USB-C for the M1 MacBook Air?
Max of 950mbps on the air as well
@@adamtalkstech okay, thank you! Was about to get the T9 but knew I should opt for the t7 shield instead. Which is good since it more storage for the budget.
What are the TBW for these two??????
No tbw rating provided
Hey Adam, does M3 support 2x2 speeds?
Unfortunately no :(
Okay so the T7 shield and T9 are both the same price for the 1TB version. Should I opt for the T9 since they have it in stock? Or wait for the T7? Cuz I just want it to be black no matter what and they’re out of the black T7’s. But if the T7 shield deals with temperature control better then I’ll just get that.
I’d go t9 if same price
Will I be able to maximize the T9’s speed on Macbook Pro M1 Pro?
No, you will not
Which one is better samsung t7 shield vs adata se880? Can you help me.
Samsung
My T7 shield seems to be slowing down while using FCP what can I do.
That’s pretty common. I really prefer using thunderbolt SSDs for editing.
Doesn't the MacBook Pro have Thunderbolt 4 port? Does it allow to use T9 at its full capacity?
It does but thunderbolt 4 on Mac can’t use dual lane so it defaults to the slower speeds
@@adamtalkstech So 3.2 Gen 2x2 is better than Thunderbolt 4?
No. You will only be able to hit 950 Mbps with the t9 or t7 on MacBook. gotta get a thunderbolt drive for faster. 2x2 also tops out at 20GBPS and TB4 is 40GBPS
Can I backup my windows pc and iphone to a T7 shield. Is it ok to backup more than one device to an external hard drive?
Depends on how you are using it, but for individual files it would be great.
@@adamtalkstech Thanks for the response 👍🙂
Is any good for Gaming? I Sanna buy one and install games on it to play
Gaming is not my area of expertise but if you have good ports available on your computer these will perform fantastic.

Long story short, apple thunderbolt 4 doesn't support the dual lane standard. @@Full.Review
The sad part is even the Usb gen 4.0 are not backwards compatible with Usb 3.2 gen 2 2×2 and why would a computer manufacturer go back to Usb 3.2 gen 2 2×2 when they already have Usb 4.0 which supports higher speeds and is royalty free unlike TB 3 or 4.
This is true too. I think the T7 Shield is just going to be the best option for most people.
As far as I understand, T7 is given 3 years warranty and T9 five years. Does it mean anything? That's the only reason I'm considering T9
I thought the shield had a 5 year warranty but I think you’re actually correct on 3 years
Can i use on my MacBook Air M1, 256 GB?
Yup!!
Just ordered the t9 shield cause i thought it was newer and newer mean better lol. I have an older Samsung book flex laptop, and i most definitely aint gonna get faster speeds with it. Mainly just bought it cause my 2tb google cloud is maxed and i dont eant to pay almost $300 per year... So i might as well download all my pics and videos to my own hard drive.
I already have a 2tb t7 touch for music, movies and old pictures. Bought a 500gb t7 for a ton of emulator games. They haven't let me down. Used to have a WD My Cloud and WD bricked their old cloud service. I wasn't able to access the files, so i found a way to take that hard drive out and transfer it to my 2tb t7. Never again will I buy wd. Samsung ftw
What about if u have a Mac mini?😊
Same speed limitations will apply
the t9 4tb is currently only $50 more than the t7 4tb
Wow that’s really close in price!
Only $50 difference is a no brainer for T9. I am leaning towards the T9. If the read/write speeds are in the 850-950 range, then is it worth it, even now. I got 680-720 read/write from a 2TB T7 Touch on my M1 Mac Studio Max. I returned the T7 to get a 4TB T9.
The t9 is very fast sandisk cant catch up
Someone correct me if I'm wrong because what I have discovered after spending a literal 6 hours researching this and trying everything I could find is that the t7 shield is not plug & play. Will not work on your Galaxy phone if it is not at 100% unless you have some additional adapter that lets you charge and use the port at the same time but then you lose the speed. Also there is no software that works with - in my case a Samsung Galaxy s21- as the Samsung software geniusea did not upgrade it once the new UI update came in. Ie 'it's not available for your version of Android" So if your Samsung phone is running anything newer than May of 2023 you can't download any plug play software anymore. The magician app doesn't do anything other than give you very detailed information on temperature and partitions etc. There's no file transfer that I can see.
So basically SOL
I'm really not sure... I don't know much about samsung phones sorry for the delay
the information about mac limitation is not quite right. with external enclosure with samsung ssd i m able to hit almost 3000 mb read/write sec
Not sure how. Is it a thunderbolt 3/4 or usb 4 enclosure?

Nice!! Hope you enjoy.
better yet buy a good enclosure and a 990 pro and get double or tripple the speeds of t9. xD
Always an option. I just don’t like enclosures that much.
None, just make your own with an empty external enclosure.
I’ve done that too. You just have to worry about heat and not always as durable. With these portable ssds they are able to optimize the drive used with the enclosure.

cuz you never explained the dual lane system issue, you just mentioned it with no explanation or source to back that
Got ya - I think we have another thread going on my T9 review. Sometimes when I do these comparisons I keep them pretty succinct. in some other videos before I have gone into greater detail about it. I need to do a full length explainer on USB 3.2 2x2 at some point. Basically Thunderbolt 4 should be backwards compatible which means it will still work, but Thunderbolt 4 will only hit 10 Gbps max on USB devices. It doesn't matter what brand the SSD is or what the enclosure is... It's unclear if its is an Apple Silicon issue or a Thunderbolt 4 issue.
@ifyubzy in all seriousness if I did delete your comment, I'm sorry. I got a disrespectful one the other day and I just wasn't in the mood for it so it may have been an accident. I wish I could give you some better documentation but check out my San Disk Pro G40 video as well as my San Disk pro blade video and I have speed tests on some different drive types that really helps see the differences that they are capable of. I have access to pretty much any model of Mac at work so I try to test stuff on those computers too to make sure i'm not missing anything.
Both are trash. The last good one is the T5. Samsung uses defective memory chips for the T7 and higher models that overheat and die after a few month.
